Highest Selling Madden since 2013

Quote:
The report, with analysis from Mat Piscatella, notes that Madden has been the best-selling game in August every year since 2000 - with the notable exceptions of 2011 and 2012, though those only missed being the best-selling games in August because they happened to launch in the September tracking period. The report notes that it has achieved the highest launch sales in the Madden series since Madden NFL 2013

It's good and bad news to me. Since every game is an iteration on the prior game, it would make sense for the newest game in the series to technically be the best game in the series. I actually decided to skip this years game. After my 8 hours with it in EA Access, i decided it wasn't for me this year.

I really enjoyed Madden 18 on the other hand though, but for 19, i just don't see enough of a move forward to warrant me spending another $60 on the franchise. The reason I said, its good and bad news at the same time: It's good news because it means the franchise still has a ton of power. Football being the number one spot in America, it only makes sense Madden should be dominating as well.

The bad news is, each game has had incremental updates, with it selling so well, it doesn't give me hope that EA would and will push the series forward in the way it needs. The incremental updates are just not big enough in my eyes to warrant a purchase every year.

I would love for Tiburon to actually take 2-3 years to redefine the game and make it SPECIAL. They can continue to release roaster updates and Ultimate cards for the current game and use the time to really go berserk on their engine. Frostbite is a great base but the game still isn't where it needs to be on the field yet. The canned animations start to feel too repeated. The A.I in most cases feels more cheap than challenging.

There's so much they can do if they had the time necessary to do it. But with the deal with the NFL and the amount of money this game has proven it can make, i don't see them getting the time necessary to really push the genre forward. The next generation consoles are a few years away, what's gonna differentiate Madden 19 from Madden 2022!!?

Here's part of the problem right here. Excusing devs for practices because it's what others do or the norm is never going to help us get better titles in situations like Madden.

Also - yeah, I'm all for you enjoying Madden in whatever capacity you do, but I'll call out the word 'good' all day. Again, I'm legit happy for you in being a happy customer, but Madden isn't good. Using 'good' as a descriptor makes it even more unlikely that people, with what I can only assume, higher standards for likeness of simulation, laws of physics and just realism in general, to ever get a better game.

Madden hasn't been good or innovative in gameplay for a long time. Each year it seems to almost go backwards in terms of play or features if I am being honest. It sells because we're football/video game nerds and it's the only gig in town. Fact. The online component isn't simulation football. It's guys just doing what they do in every other video game. Find exploits, bugs and glitches and spam crap until they win or rage quit.

Good isn't fair. People enjoy it, yes. But good it ain't.

When a game 30 years in the making doesn't have basic features from the PS2 iterations, it's simply irresponsible to label it as good. It literally only makes EA more emboldened and makes it worse for all of us. That's the truth.

Of course it's the highest selling since 13, they went back to the PC and opened up their game to a bigger platform.

They also released it several weeks earlier. Wasn't 13 the last time they released it on the old/new release date of early August?

Re: Highest Selling Madden since 2013

It's funny how we could never figure out sales were down since 2013. The earlier release i would venture is a big part of this. People waiting until payday were not put into september.
