Who are you using and why?

I'm deciding on a long-term franchise and documenting it through my twitter page to keep stats and information, maybe a storyline or two also. What teams are you enjoying using this season? Why? I am deciding between Detroit, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, The Mets and Marlins. Was contemplating Tampa but the ballpark is such an eyesore

Want a slight challenge but not sure if I want the dumpster fire that is Detroit and Baltimore, Although I love both stadiums in the game. A nice hitting prospect or two would be nice or a strong pitcher I can rely on once a week. The Mets seem simple and Milwaukee probably is too. Perhaps Pittsburgh and trading Josh Bell for prospects.

I'm so indecisive.... Suggestions? As an Oakland A's fan I can't do San Francisco or the AL West.

Re: Who are you using and why?

I use the Braves as my carry-over save in the NL East because I live just across the Georgia line near Talladega, so I've been a Braves guy since I was a wee lad.

I use the White Sox every year as a one & done season as my AL Central team because of the Birmingham Barons, so I like the OSFM (or whatever the kids are calling it these days) to use here, and play select Barons games when I'm the Pale Hose.

about 10 years ago I started going with the Orioles as a one & done season as well because I wanted an AL East team also. there was no way I was going with the Yankees or Red Sox, or the Rays because of the Trop. so it came down to the Orioles and Blue Jays. I went Orioles. since that time, I've grown to become almost a big a fan of Baltimore as much as Atlanta. also, playing against the Rays, I've come to appreciate the really good job SDS did with the Trop. they make games played there actually as fun as any other stadium. still, I'm not a fan of the IRL Trop.

wasn't long after quick counts became a thing and I was able to add in AL West teams (most times Seattle, sometimes Oakland) and a NL West team too (usually Colorado but occasionally Arizona). Oakland Coliseum is another one of those stadiums SDS turns from a monstrosity into a virtual video game baseball cathedral.

if I have time I will finish the year with a one & done NL Central team (either Pittsburgh or Cincinnati). all of these are one & done seasons, some with either quick counts and/or simming 2/3 of the season. it's a lot of baseball but simming and quick counts helps immensely.

Re: Who are you using and why?

I'm playing as the Reds because they're the team I follow. There are three teams that really intrigue me though - the Padres, the Royals, and the Blue Jays.

The Padres have Tatis, Machado and some good pitching prospects. They've got some key franchise pieces in place but have enough holes on their roster to fill it out as you please. The stadium is cool, the uniforms are awesome, and I just love their whole aesthetic.

The Royals also have some nice franchise pieces like Mondesi, Witt Jr. and again some good young pitchers. Merrifield is on a ridiculously good contract so you can either build around him or flip him for X really nice haul. I really like their stadium too with the big badge screen, but I understand some others view it as an eye sore. Their farm system has a ton of good prospects too and you get a high draft pick year one to add even more.

The Blue Jays have Vlad, Bichette, and Biggio as their young core but the rest of the roster is yours to build out. A couple of decent older pitchers will see you through, and there are a handful of vets that you can trade for prospects to fill out the farm system.

I like all of these teams because their rosters are in a good state to build it out with a small ball approach primarily but with one or two power hitters dotted into the line up, which is something I find myself drawn to.

Also all relatively small market/underdog teams instead of the usual contenders.

I always use the Reds, because they have been my favorite team since, really since birth, because they were my Grandparents favorite team, and really most of my family have always been Reds fans. I also like to play some of the Reds farm teams games as well in Franchise, but those are the only other teams I play any games with.

Re: Who are you using and why?

I usually always have a Jays one on the go.

Started up a Mariners one last week though. They've got two of the best hitting prospects in the game (both are at least a year or two out though), a number of good, young arms starting to trickle up, and have the longest active playoff drought in the Majors. Plus, they've never won a world series. They've also got a beautiful stadium.

I believe this is a common problem for many of us. I would suggest deciding what you want to accomplish with your franchise first and that will narrow down the choices.

just win, baby. how does an Oakland guy not know this?

all jokes aside, my goal for Baltimore this year is get Rutcsmnan the RoY. beyond that, I've been trying to get Chris Davis turned around the last 3 seasons and rehabilitate his rep. this is the first year I've had even just a little bit of success in that endeavor. also, letting Detroit or Miami have a better record than me is not an option. other than that I'm just content to let the chips fall where they may, win lose or or break even.

Re: Who are you using and why?

Detroit. They've got a few young arms in the farm system and a few tradeable players in the MLB. If you want to go extreme legit, you don't trade Miggy and let his contract expire. You need to build through the draft for hitters. It's difficult but it is interesting. Plus, the division allows for you to be good in a few years even if you'd finish fourth in most other divisions.
