Kinda confused on what version to buy for my kid.

The PS4 version where he can play the PS5 version or the PS5 Standalone edition. One is 70 and one is 35 right now.

Any help appreciated

The PS4 version gives you access to the ps5 version as a download

I got fifa for I think 25 or 30 with the free upgrade and no intention of playing on the PS4 but jist for the upgrade

As a note Fifa 21 is currently on sale on PS Store for like $28. You can buy that and get the free upgrade to PS5.

I'm not a big soccer fan (don't know much about it) but gave a shot and bought it and think it is a fun game and looks good as a very casual soccer novice.
