Smoak powers late charge as Mariners down Oakland again

Oakland - Justin Smoak finally broke through providing the big hit the Mariners needed, and Fernando Rodney slammed the door on his 3rd save as the Mariners took the second game of this series in Oakland. Chris Young was impressive in his Mariner debut, retiring the first 17 batters he faced before a Brad Miller error broke up the perfect game bid. Coco Crisp tripled the very next at bat and suddenly it looked as if the stellar start may be for naught. The M's came through in the top half of the 8th though loading the bases with no one out and getting a run on a fielder's choice ground out before Smoak's double gave the Mariners some breathing room.
