Huskies win over rival vaults them back into Top 10. USC joins them

The Huskies win over rival Oregon Saturday was enough to boost them back into the Top 10 of both major polls over the weekend. The Dawgs are joined by USC who shot into the top 10 after another win to keep their undefeated season going. This marks the first time there have been two Pac-12 teams in the Top 10 of both polls since after Week 3 when Oregon, and Stanford both claimed top 10 spots.

Huskies pitch 2nd half shutout. Finally tame Ducks

Seattle - For the first time in a decade the Washington Huskies finally found the formula to contain the Oregon Ducks, as they were able to contain the Ducks vaunted spread option look, and score enough points on their own to get a 21-10 result at Husky Stadium. The Ducks lost starting QB Marcus Mariota early on in the first quarter to a pectoral injury, but the Ducks were making no excuses after the game, as many players stated that the Husky defense simply was more prepared and executed btter than they did at key moments in the game. The Huskies will soak this one in before preparing to hit the road to Tempe to take on a tough Arizona State team that some pundits had ranked high earlier on this year.

Huskies loss drops them to No. 15 in both major polls

As expected the loss on Saturday dropped the Huskies a few spots in both of the major polls to no. 15, However with an upcoming matchup with no. 10 Oregon this week they will have a chance to re-boost their ranking before the BCS standings are released next week.

RUN OVER

Stanford's rushing attack demolishes Huskies defense as Washington suffers first loss

Palo Alto - For the 2nd week in a row, the Huskies had no answer for another teams rushing attack, as Anthony Wilkerson totaled 204 yards, and 4 score. The Cardinal rushed for 297 as a team, and the Huskies suffered their first defeat of 2013 falling to the cardinal 42-23. The Cardinal coming off back to back losses and losing starting QB Kevin Hogan last week to a foot injury didnt put much pressure on their young backup, as ran the ball off a total of 61 times in this one, and why not? The Huskies defense could not stop anything the Cardinal did on the ground, and by the time Keith Price tried to rally in the 4th it was well too late. The Huskies actually got the game to 35-17 early in the 4th, and were driving for another score, but a Shayne Skov interception in the end zone finally sealed this one for the Cardinal who were happy to get back in the W column. It wont get any easier for the Huskies as they welcome the high flying offense of their arch rival Oregon into Husky Stadium next Saturday.

Huskies Jump into Top 10 in Coaches Poll, Stanford falls all the way down

At the beginning of the season when the Huskies, Cardinal matchup showed up on the schedule, most thought it would feature a Top 10 team, but I dont think a soul predicted it would be the dawgs, and not Stanford ranked in the Top 10 at this point in the season. We'll see if Washington's quick ascension can survive Palo Alto this weekend.

Dawgs Bite Cats 34-30

Seattle - It was a back and forth affair all day at Husky Stadium on Saturday, but in the 4th Quarter the Huskies were finally able to gain control and hold on for the close win to open up Pac-12 play. It seemed as though Keith Price just wouldn't let the Huskies go down on this day as he was able to keep up with Arizona's high powered up tempo offense by having maybe his best game as a dawg. Price's 331 Yds and 3 TDs Kept the Huskies in it after going down 14-0 early. Finally in the 2nd half the Huskies defense was able to get traction as they only gave up two Jake Smith Field Goals after surrendering 24 points in the first half, by far their highest total so far this season. Things wont get any easier for the Dawgs now as they travel to Palo Alto to take on the suprsingly struggling Stanford Cardinal, who have lost two straight games, but were ranked as high as #3 this season, and are still a very dangerous ball club who will have something to prove to the Dawgs, who might squeak into the Top 10 when the weeks polls are released.

Sack Party!

Shirley, Huskies record day takes care of Bengals

Seattle - It wasn't pretty by any means, but a record performance by DE Josh Shirley made up for a sub par day for the Husky offense, and the dawgs made their way to a 31-10 win on Saturday. The husky DE accounted for an NCAA record 9 sacks and also caused a fumble in a physically dominating performance over the smaller FCS line of Idaho State, and the Huskies needed it as their offense has seen better days as Keith Price was sporadic all day and threw 3 picks, but the husky D made sure that the Bengals would not capitalize on those mistakes as they stuffed the Idaho State attack all game long. Hopefully the Dawgs worked all the kinks out of their system as PAC-12 play starts next week, and the competition is bound to get tougher in conference starting with the Arizona Wildcats at Husky Stadium this Saturday.

ILLINIHILATION

Huskies steamroll Illinois 55-14

Chicago - It was all working for Coach Sark and the Dawgs on Saturday as the offense was clicking on all cylinders for over 500 total yards, and the defense didn't give up a score until the game was already well out of reach. The Huskies blitzed out to a 27-0 lead before Illinois knew what hit them, and didn't let off the gas in the 2nd half either getting it to 55-7 at one point. Next up the Huskies have one more tune up against FCS Idaho State before PAC-12 play gets underway.
