Playstation.Blog has posted another MLB 09 The Show blog. This one covers Online Season Leagues and Improvements.

"The draft system rivals that of any fantasy sports system. It allows from 6-30 players to hold a FULL LIVE Draft, with the ability to set your draft day/time, pick timer/length, chat (and harass), view the Player Card/stats of available players, view the Player Card stats of other users in your league drafting. Another integral part of the draft system is the ability to set you draft queue. No matter how much planning you do, there’s always a chance you can’t physically be at your draft, or you may not be able to stay for the entire draft."

"I can assure you, framerate and handling lag has been worked on all year and improved. The online game is locked at 60fps. We have added code to ensure that any packet loss that may occur is handled. Bat ball connection in both real-time and replay has had a lot of attention."

Hey Knight.....I just meant that for all that 2K does not do right, they have had this feature in their online leagues as well as better league websites, etc. since the beginning of their run....I just don't understand because in The Show they track all our players stats in the offline franchise and season modes. I just wish this was incorporated in the online leagues as well, that's all.

I just read that the computer does not control the remaining teams in the online mode?

This doesn't really make sense - how can you circumvent people from stacking their teams in small leagues?

Do they put each player into a tier and draft a certain amount of players from each tier?

Thanks

My assumption is that like last year when following the on-screen animation (like the ESPN diamond when following baseball games on your computer) of a game you will now also have audio, which to me seems better as the animations were a tad behind the actual gameplay. I used to follow it from the SportsConnect website by going to Games> Who's Playing and then search for the screenname of the league member you are following. Not sure if the website will also allow audio as well, but from the console is a step-up, nonetheless.

I haven't seen this addressed yet. I personally don't want the computer controlling the other teams, because then you could potentially have a human player facing a computer player in the playoffs. Leagues are better when it's all human controlled. But if that's how it is, and you've only got an 8 man league, that means all 8 players can basically pick out all the good guys to form their teams.

I have a feeling that's how it will work, and because of that, I don't think the fantasy draft option will be very popular. A full 32 man league with fantasy draft sounds awesome...but man, talk about a headache.

Someone else mentioned the problem with doing flex-schedules and pitching rotations. For leagues that are into using rotations, a flex-schedule could be really confusing. It's like you'd have to sit down and plan out the entire season ahead of time so you know which starter you should be using. Or I guess if it tells you what week the game is from, you can go off that number. Week 12 has to be your number 2 (5 + 5 + 2) for example.

Individual stats would be cool, but there's always next year.

And houtz...that sounds VERY promising!

Good chart, that is similar to how I ran it last year with the 3-game series and 3-man rotation. Although, nothing was ever really set in stone since guys would tend to try their 4th SP if 1) they were having trouble with a 1 through 3, or 2) someone would go on the DL and they would be forced to use another. To that effect, we just went ahead with the honor system.

Russell,

Any discussion about adding an online franchise mode? I know it would be difficult but after online dynasty in NCAA football I have decided it is a must for me to buy a game. Online leagues just seem weak in comparison.

Thanks.
