Madden 2010 News Post

September 9, 2009 – This season marks the 50th season for the eight original American Football League (AFL) teams, and EA SPORTS is commemorating the celebration with the release of the AFL Legacy Pack game add-on for Madden NFL 10.

Available on September 24th, the comprehensive add-on brings the heritage of the AFL to Madden NFL 10 with all-new 1960’s-style presentation elements. Referees don the orange striped AFL uniforms, official AFL markings and logos decorate the field, and more – all while featuring a retro football card-like user interface and classic film grain broadcast camera.

The eight original AFL teams will be represented by name and wear their historic uniforms, including the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs (as the Dallas Texans), New England Patriots (as the Boston Patriots), New York Jets (as the Titans of New York), Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans (as the Houston Oilers).

The 15 AFL Legacy Game matchups during the 2009 NFL regular season will include the Legacy Pack presentation in the offline Franchise mode, as well as during the Play Now, and Superstar modes. Historic AFL uniforms can be selected in any mode – offline or online!

Relive some of the greatest moments in AFL history with all-new Madden Moments, which include additional Xbox 360 achievements and PS3 trophies.

The AFL Legacy Pack game add-on for Madden NFL 10 will be available on September 24th for 560 Microsoft Points and $6.99 on the PSN Store.

The award-winning Madden NFL 10, the highest rated version ever for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, is in stores now.

And please don't use the cop out line that, "well its should've been in the game already" or "I already paid X amount of dollars for this game", because those two lines could be used for any and all games that offer DLC.

So go ahead, please enlighten me and the rest of the community with why what EA/Madden is doing is any different than what any other company that offers DLC is doing.

Rock Band tracks = new gameplay
Map packs = new gameplay
New characters = sometimes new gameplay
AFL = not new gameplay

Just sayin.

Replayability. If I d/l extra songs for RockBand or an expansion pack for, say, Midnight Club LA, then that will be a one time purchase. Sports games are different, they are released yearly. If I d/l a song in RockBand, it will work in all iterations of RockBand. Will I be asked to purchase franchise enhancers, elite status, uniforms, and other DLC for Madden 11? Probably. That's fine, we live in a capitalist economy, which gives me the option of buying it or not, which I won't. I also think now more than ever it's important to be an educated consumer. When other sports games offer this content for free, and now I'm being charged, I should ask why.

That's not a good comparison. Football, by nature, is a different gameplay experience every time you play.

About as good as the quoted one above.

These are terrible comparisons.

New Maps=Same game, different location.
New Tracks=Same game, different song.
New Characters=Eh, for the most part the same.
AFL= Same game, different uniforms and a filter on the camera.

Thing I'm most mad is the uniforms should already be in the game. The rest is cool, but I dont want/need it.

I will not be buying this because I work part time minimum wage. I must use my income to pay my health insurance premium that increases $20 every year.

The thing I hate about Map Packs is that after awhile if you can't buy them or don't like the new levels eventually they force you buy them or else you can't play as much online anymore. Also games tend to have a limit on the number of maps that can appear offline so you can't even use them all if you don't play online.
If I don't buy this I can still play the game no matter what.

Well guess what EA, it'll be a cold day in hell when I do that and last I heard the earth is warming.
Posts like this are useless. Oh, the nerve of EA to release cool add-ons for their game...Oh, and they are charging me money to do things, what a shame.

It's 7 bucks...Get a part time job, work for an hour or two, then quit, and you have more than enough money to pay for it. I have bills like anyone else...I have a family, and child, and work very hard for my money. The difference is that I have no problem with saving what I would have spent on the Chick-Fil-A that I normally get on Friday or the money that I use at the vending machine at work for a week or two, and using it to pay for my DLC. It's not like they are asking you to pay another 60 bucks for it. If you don't think you are getting your value for the cost of it, then don't buy it. Simple as that.

My money says that come August of next year, hell will freeze over...right about the time that you are handing your hard earned $60.00 to the cashier for your copy of Madden 11

it doesn't matter, by saying its new gameplay then he should be ok with the AFL Legacy pack since it offers 5 new Madden Moments, since you know, the new Madden Moments are new gameplay.

EA should concentrate on gameplay first then add all the extras. The Show is a great example of this. They made sure the gameplay was top notch, that is the most realistic sports game to date. Now, Russell comes on the boards and asks us what uniforms teams wear on certain days, pitcher specific reactions etc... all this AFTER they got the gameplay down. EA needs to get Madden fixed first.

See this is the only good argument I can see against this. Good post, texans.

Isn't Rock Band tracks just new songs added to the original songs? We have RB, but my kids play it more than I do.

I'm not buying it because I'm an NFC fan, not AFC.

No one is forced into buying this purchase. Choices are a good thing.

I'm definitely going to be getting this...I love the filter effects...

They should have made sure that the poor gameplay in some areas was taken care of via the patches before they started releasing any extras like this in my opinion.

Does it matter? Do new songs for Rock Band, new map packs, new costumes, new add-ons get rid of bugs/glitches in other games?

I don't recall any of them doing so.

Who says they aren't? The first patch is in the certification process with MS/Sony. The AFL Legacy pack doesn't release until the 24th. My money says that the first patch will drop before the AFL Legacy Pack does.

And besides, people were/are in an uproar because the AFL pack hadn't been released yet.

Actually, it is. Rock Band adds on gameplay with new songs. Remember, they ship with a large amount of songs on disc, and release 3-12 songs a week. That's one way Rock Band keeps people playing the game because it doesn't get stale... new gameplay.

New maps add new strategy to a shooter, where strategies change due to new spawn points, new objectives, and new obstacles to get over or avoid on your way to get the other team.

New characters in a fighting game give you new moves to learn and either complete or defend against.

Adding uniforms to a football game is window dressing, and doesn't change how you play the game. Everything else I mentioned does.

Of course, I figured someone would say "but what about the Madden Moments". My response for the Madden Moments is that you get 5 for this pack, which, unless you love playing Madden Moments, you'll get about 20 minutes out of.

Either way once the patch drops people will complain about what it did and didnt fix anyway. If every game waited till they fixed all of the problems in their games there wouldnt be much DLC.

I agree.

Patch #1 will fix some things, but not everything.

I'm sure Patch #2 will fix some game play issues.
