Out of curiosity, to the Physics Physics Physics people (TORA! TORA! TORA!), what's more important too you... on-the-fly real time tackles and the like, or a highly realistic simulation of NFL football?

I guess what I'm saying is this: Lets assume for the moment that Backbreaker is a great game, but fundamentally different from the sim that Madden is going for. Lets also say that Madden does nothing with tackling physics, but produces a realistic locomotion system and creates a very realistic representation of NFL football... one that we can pretty much agree is the best "sim" of all time.

Assume even that somehow Backbreaker produces a team creation engine that allows us to completely recreate the NFL.

Now, does the real time nature of Backbreaker trump Madden's realism in that scenario?

This is an honest question, not a bait, I'm really curious, because it does seem like a lot of people are putting all their eggs into the contact physics basket.

I see on the whiteboard under the team specific crowd chants:

Jungle? Crazy?

Hopefully that means Welcome to the Jungle and Crazy Train for stadium music during the game. Don't forget Hell's Bells EA.

Those boards were all planted guys. Half of what there is pure !@#$ and the other half is there to tease.

I don't know about the Backbreaker type tackles, but that Insta-turn crap has got to go along with LB's reacting to the ball and jumping 5 ft. in the air. Likewise leverage needs to be represented on the OL/DL.

Madden looks very video-gamish as a result of these issues and imo it's not inconceivable that it effects public perception/sales.

Just make the NFL version of MLB the Show and we'll all be happy.

# 66 SteelerSpartan @ 02/07/10 11:49 PM
They really need to go the extra mile with the physics, because even Pro-tak will look bad next to Backbreakers setup

However I guess my biggest problem with the physics is the locomotion and all the herky jerky changes in direction...Namely DBs using that to swat balls down

It still annoys very much that someone like Hayneworth can't drive his guy up field, or gets trucked far too much by smaller players

Anyone else notice the first node on the diagram they have on the 2nd whiteboard? It says 'Start Fluff'. lol

You guys are really reaching here lol. Do you really think the marketing department would let that video get out with all that stuff if it was confirmed into the game? Now they may be working on it, but don't believe it's in the game just because it's on a white board.

As far as my impression goes, like I said in the other thread, I knew this blog would be totally useless. It was really a waste of time IMO. Remember that is just my opinion. There is no need for flaming for that.

Having said that, I can't wait until mid March when we start getting real info. I'll be all in for that.

Also the name Cris is above Hammond, but not crossed out,

My fingers are crossed for Al Michaels!!!
Have you forgotten how BORING Al Michaels is?

Lets not forget that HE was the last commentator before this game was into peril by them using the radio announcer guy. The reason the change was made is b/c people couldnt stand him on this game.

I hope they don't bring him back at all.

I don't think crowd chants and new defense formations are marketing tools...

Are you serious? Everything is a marketing tool to EA lol. If you don't think specific crowd chants won't be on the back of the box if it's in the game, you haven't been playing this game too long lol.

For fun....
  • Video Showing Men Stuff
  • Dine
  • Chug Plyr (for data structs)
  • Realistic
  • Regulate Frustration
  • Communicate to Plyr - Hints, Flush, SFX
  • Vel SPD UP
  • Proper Telemetry Hooks
  • Beware Previous Owners (?)
  • Hint Passes
  • We Make What We Measure (possible burn down chart to the left)
Val ponders how many feet Ian has in marketing... (one foot... both?)

No offense, at all. Al was my favorite commentator in the Madden series thus far. Al also possible has the most famous commentary in the history of sports..."Do you believe in miracles!?!"

I'm just hoping i'm right about Hammond being out. The dev team goal, What you see on Sunday...Lets hear a commentary team that is an actually team on Sunday. (Maybe multiple teams )

Heh reminds of The Show when the Hudler says "better watch those magic words...don't say 'em...don't say 'em!"

As far as the video goes - not bad at all. Still in the "wait and see" mode, but was nice to see the team and such.

Thanks, and also agree.

Hammond is a good commentator, just not for football. If the scripting was improved, the overall game would be improved.

I can't imagine the commentary not being overhauled. With The Show, NCAA Bball, NBA 2ka's commentary improvements, Madden has to step up.

That blog was really well done. The whiteboards had the nugget of information the team wanted to give us, but they didn't actually say it so if it doesn't get it we can't get mad at them for promising anything.

Don't we PS3 players all wish! Too bad there isn't enough disc space for that or that they can't make a PS3 exclusive NFL game!

Imagine how much could fit on a Blu-Ray.
