NBA 2K12 News Post

Back by popular demand!

In case you don't realize, the thread we all helped out on for NBA 2k11 was certainly used in fine tuning some details for the game. Let's get this party started for NBA 2k12.

Some rules:

This thread will focus on things such as the following:

Arenas
Player Faces
Player Accessories
Jersey Mistakes

Let's keep the topic focused in these areas. Compiling this information only benefits us.

Now to start and expand on something 2k added this year:

Buzzer beaters
There has to be better emotion out of things like this. You can see 2k put in a variety of fist pump animations and such and it was a great start. Before that, 2k10 had a rare few, including this one:

We need more like this with players running to the other side of the court with the number one finger up or running and stopping and staring at the crowd.

Here is a GREAT reference video.

If you can't view the embedded video, click here.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE CROWD!!

Add yours and we'll put them all in this post.

Player Specific
- Body Types - There need to be more body types in the game. Players like Duncan, Pierce and Glenn Big Baby Davis just don't look right chiseled. Examples:
Wiry - Skinny and long - Tayshaun Prince, Kevin Durant, George Hill
Normal - Undefined muscles - Tim Duncan, Paul Pierce, Anderson Varejao, Samuel Dalembert
Muscular - Very defined - Dwight Howard
Hefty - Big and bulky, a little "chunky" - Glenn Davis, DeJuan Blair

-Player faces in need of updates: Carmelo Anthony, Danny Granger, Matt Bonner, Andrew Bynum, George Hill, Andray Blatche, Javale McGee, Deron Williams, James Harden, Kendrick Perkins, Carlos Boozer, Bill Walker, Wilson Chandler, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng is bald, Andrew Bogut, Monta Ellis, Nick Young, Andrea Bargnani, David Lee,

Carlos Boozer - Signature motion after dunk, scream and head bob up/down
Wesley Matthews - Signature taunt after a three.

Tatoos - Wilson Chandler is in DIRE need of an update. References: 1, 2, 3, 4

Signature Shots - Bargnani and Calderon were changed by the 2k Insider over the course of the season to a better shot. PLEASE don't change it back to their sig's, which were actually off.

Accessories
-Calf Sleeves - Half size and Full size (There is a SLIGHT difference here. At first they look the same but HALF doesn't reach ankle and FULL does.) Don't forget the sleeve pads.
-Small Knee Pads
-BIG Knee braces - As seen on Duncan and Bosh.
-Adidas license - Especially Dwight Howards double arm braces. (We know it's a license issue - but get it anyway. )
-Elbow Bands - You have them below the elbow (probably b/c of graphical glitches). They go on the elbow. One thing you can do is take the arm sleeves and modify that. Less work and solves the problem quickly.
-Player warm up jackets - Randomly add them to players that come back to the bench after playing.
-Mouth guards
-Head bands - be able to position logo (front, angled L/R, Back) The NBA should be ok with this. If possible, try to sneak in upside down as well.
-Baller Bands - able to select two different colors
-Please make accessories specific to player's in-game injuries (SimBaller - this may require your help! )
-Oakley Goggles

Shoes
-Higher Res. shoes, please!
-Add more of 'em. 'nuff said. Even if it is through DLC!
Nike - Kobe Zoom 5/6, KD2/3, Air Max Fly By, Flight Lite 2010, Huarache 2010, Sharkley,
Adidas - Pro Model 2010, Infiltrate, Super Beast, Adizero Rose 1.5, Speedcut, Atitude MC's
Converse - EB3

Arena Specific
-Camera Angles! Create a camera angle setting called "Arena" and make it specific to that arena. Don't think your customers can't handle a slight change in angle - we can!
-New Orleans - Benches are reversed; Home is on the left, Visiting on the right (if you are facing the scorer's table)
-Verizon Center: Please fix the arena lighting. You guys have them playing in lights out lighting, and it's not the correct lighting used when watching their games on TV. The crowd should be very visible and the court lighting should be much brighter. The lighting you had in 2k10 was correct.
-Staples Center: Not dark enough on the crowd.
-MSG was very well done!
-Staples Center (Clippers) - Red needs to be more red. Looks more pinkish than red.
-Oracle Arena (Warriors) - Colors are off, especially the blue. Real life vs. In game.
-America Airlines Arena (Heat)

Jerseys
-Nets logo must be larger on the front (as opposed to this).
-The Raptors jerseys all have the maple leaf above the name on the back of the jersey now. In 2k11 it still only had the leaf on the black alternates. Ref. 1, 2, 3.

Other
-Pre-game shootaround in warmups
-Different gear on players during pre-game intro (Beats headphones, backpack, non-suit attire)
-Injury cut scene to the "tunnel"
-Injured players should get helped by at least one or two other teammates, not back away.
-Have the CPU send players to the scorers table for substitutions ... they always seem to run on the court in between FT's or during TO's.
-Different jersey fittings (tight, regular, loose)
-Accessory color selection right before tip-off (for players that wear "team specific" gear)
-Post game interview? Can make it just a cut scene as the announcers wrap up the game.
-Crowds wearing team-specific jerseys.
-Arena court "scuffs" as the season progresses.
-Players falling into fans and interacting with them
-Fans catching the ball and throwing it back when it goes out of bounds
-News from around the league during gameplay
-Other scores and stats from different games showing up in a ticker!
-CAP Tattoos need to be updated: Options for a sleeve, etc.
-Clear the bench on a game winner!

As long as we're mentioning player specific taunts/celebrations, I'd like to add Wesley Matthews to the list!

-Warmups on the Bench ...when a player comes back from the bench, they usually wear shooting shirts and or just the long sleeve warmup like you see in NBA Live 10.

-More Throwbacks..... How in the world do you have the Jordan Challenges with no Phoenix Suns??? On top of that n Phoenix Suns sunburst uniforms??? those were classic!!
93 Phoenix Sunburst Uniform with the alternate
95 Toronto Raptor Dino uniform

Also All Star uniforms...lets get some love for throwback All Star uniforms..and even an option for the Team colors..

Better Championship celebrations!!!!! Cant stress this enough...They stepped it up a lil bit but there should be at LEAST 5 different celebrations..for a team winning its FIRST EVER, Back to Back, Three peats and others....

Retired numbers....a celebration for someone retiring their numbers.

Championship Banners at the start of the season......

Keeping it simple:

Player models/body type/skintone:
-There should be a noticeable difference in body type between players.
- ie. Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Andrew Bynum, Glen Davis, Paul Pierce
-I read somewhere they fixed D-Wade's skin tone, but Kevin Durant is a bit too dark as well. So are Russell Westbrook and Demar Derozan

Arenas:

-There should be a noticeable difference in the sound of the crowd between a layup made in the 1st quarter and a layup made in the 4th quarter to put the dagger in your opponent
-Pregame rituals for teams ie. Miami Heat have two flame throwers ignite just above the backboard before games start
-PA Announcers also. ie. New York Knicks' announcer and the way he pronounces players' names like Amar'e Stoudemire
-Players on the bench should have more interaction with players walking to the bench when a timeout is called. Reverse chest bumps, multiple high fives, etc

I probably just said what most people in here said already, haha.

Great idea.

This may of been mentioned, but NBA Live 10 killed at Playoff atmospheres. I would make the volume loud, and listen to my home crowd. Especially in the Finals

i want to chime in on the arena sounds as i said earlier in my post that they did a great job in arena specific authenticity but as i type this post and listening to this....

it just sounds sooo much better...i think 2k is lacking the ambience of the PA system..not entirely sure what you call it but it sounds so much like its in an arena..

i would post examples of MSG chants but i cant find any of it online...
I hear u. And yes it "sounds" nice. But thats the ONLY thing 2K needs to take an NBA Live. 2K has the rest of that game beat like a drum.

My post is centered more so around the GAME MENU. Though it maybe too late for 2k12. I always thought it would be cool if the combined there old concept of "THE CRIB" as the layout for the games actual menu.

*you could have the main room be the living room.

- options from the tv could be nbatoday nd thats were you start all of your games.(assuming the game zooms into the tv making it wide screen. but also able to watch ur post game from couch perspective.

-other things like magazines on the coffee table could house, the living roster updates, and online menus

other rooms to house your, trophies, a outside court to shoot around and practice on as a menu option.

- and etc. ideas i have that i wont mention for sake of rambling

but in all i think the core concept, could tie in the old 2ks with the new, and help create a more personable more so then just a sports game. the menu system could also work well with the MY Player mode

Also something random, since alot of people want like to be customizable, 2k should create a more indepth creation center.

_how does a create a shot option sound? combine differnt mechanics to create ur own shot

_ or the create a chant from the college games

ofcourse fix the made reason why we all still play the gameplay, but why not go beyond basketball/nba as just a game, but as a world sport lifestyle

thanks

This is not a wishlist thread. This is a thread for suggestions to make the game sound and look authentic to the NBA. Think of the "What you see on Sundays" concept from Madden.

If the Sonics are back for 2k12, these unis should be their alternate

Bulls pinstripe

Suns Blk/white/purp unis:

The player's name on the back should be bigger. The fonts 2K is using are way too small and condensed.

Skinny, I agree on all fronts. And then some.

# 112 Canes305 @ 06/26/11 10:41 PM
Arenas:
Authentic PA annoucers
More mascot routines other than dancing randomly(dunking on a trampoline, T-shirt tosses)
At Halftime, the crowd should make their way to the bathroom or near the end of a blowout game
More camera men on the sides
Authentic team introductions
Real time video boards(when a player scores, his name should pop up) and Jumbotron

Totally agree. Not even this, give us every single retro jersey that ever existed for each franchise, so that teams can choose between from 10+ jerseys.

I talk about franchise here because, for example Okalhoma City Thunder is not the Seattle Supersonics, the same way the Charlotte Bobcats are not the Charlotte Hornetts (New Orleans perhaps...most probably since it is already in the game and moved city, but carried on the Hornett Legacy ...the same way the LA Lakers did with Mineapolis).

# 114 infam0us @ 06/27/11 02:04 AM
I think asking for all is too much but there's no reason why the Sixers have a bunch of alternate uniforms when you have the Nets who have none and the Spurs who have one.

# 115 Pared @ 06/27/11 09:59 AM
If someone can find me the thread with camera specific angles I would appreciate it. I think rspencer did most of the work and I'd like to include it here.

# 116 TheBadazz @ 06/27/11 11:25 AM
Bring back the "dead ball" Highlights.

# 117 Pared @ 06/27/11 11:32 AM
Guys - I'm going to keep deleting posts that are off the subject.

THIS IS NOT A WISHLIST.

Also, please do not state duplicate items.

Thank you.

# 118 aloncho11 @ 06/27/11 11:45 AM
Each Arena could have it's own camera angle

# 119 Pared @ 06/27/11 11:48 AM
That's already been mentioned at least 3 times, aloncho.

# 120 Outkizast @ 06/27/11 12:22 PM
One of the biggest things in my opinion is being able to change each accessory's color. Not only white, black, and the team colors, but ANY color. This is ESPECIALLY for headbands.. I hate it when the player is wearing all black accessories and except for a white or team color headband... please let us be able to edit any color on each accessory.
