Call this a weird occurrence but in my last game against Minnesota, their goalie Backstrom, with none of my players near him as I was making a line change, actually fired the puck up ice out of his zone in an attempt to start a breakaway. The puck actually went past his own blue line. It was one of those things where I had to pause the game and replay it like 4 or 5 times to make sure it was what I saw.
There are also a lot more loose puck scrambles around the goals, leading to some hectic moments late in games. I've seen a lot of garbage goals in the handful of games I've played today.
CPU also seems to pass the puck to open ice a little more than before, and my CPU controlled teammates also seem to play better positional defense.
While there could still be more penalties called I do like what this new update has done for the game.
I'm sure there is a difference between them. Generally what I've noticed is when I start a GM the game feels different from Play Now, even with the same sliders. It was the same thing with the 2K series. There could also be a difference as far as penalties go, because the AI may have a higher importance factor programmed in, thus leading to more desperate play in situations and more penalties. In other words I'm pretty sure the AI behaves differently in GM than in Play Now.
Yep Savoie...I'd swear too that the game plays differently between Play Now/BEAGM. And for me, I prefer the gameplay in Play Now. And yep...with the same setup.
The two biggest differences I seem to see with Play Now is, a bit sloppier passing from the cpu, and more ints.
When it comes to sports video games, realism is what makes it more fun. the frustration factor kicks in when you can't get a simulation feel for the game. personally, i simply canNOT enjoy a sports game when the statistics are way off... but that's just me.
3 moree games 10 PP chances for me... I tell you, not sure why but I am getting PP chances now where as before the patch I wasn't... Out of those, 3 hooking, 3 charging, 3 roughing and 1 delay of game... went 2 for 10 on those attempts (granted I play penalty scale same as game speed)...
I took 3 penalties in those 3 games, 2 interefernce and 1 slashing...
Not playing with anyones slider settings but me own combinations....
I play on 10 minute periods, all star, 1.00 tuner, hardcore settings tweaked to my liking... (penalties maxed, puck control 0, puck reception ease 0, and a few other changes)
I am finally having fun with the game, thinking the key was not relying on someone elses slider combinations...
The only thing I have had issues with since the patch last night (one freeze in game) is that I cannot access custom music, freezes everytime now... Which sucks, because I am always updating to dittys I hear at arenas...
Bot giving EA a pat on the back yet, but quietly giving a low five because it seems as if the penalty issue has been corrected...

and ALOT of others as well. My point is, that if you can not get wrapped up in the desire for realism, you will most likely enjoy the game in its current state. Heck, I remember when I played Baseball Simulator, Double Dribble, and Tecmo Super Bowl and the last thought on my mind was how realistic it was. It was how much fun each game was to play. I realize that with the times peoples attitudes and expectations have changed, but I still wonder why as well. If the game is fun to play, that is what should really matter.
If this game was indeed much more realistic, like the puck being loose and the physics being more accurate, I think far less people would play the game. Hockey, is a difficult sport and generally sloppy. I think people would become too frustrated, if it played too much like the real thing.Heck I get frustrated with it playing the way it does now. I can't imagine how I would feel if my players were actually having pucks bounce around and or over their sticks; or having a player actually whiff on a wide open shot.

ok let me get this straight, you're having lots of PP/PK (that is great), you d/l the 1.04 patch but you're using the 1.00 tuner (plus your own slider adjustments)?

That's what I got out of it..
What's the difference between the 1.00 tuner and 1.02 tuner?
First game after this latest patch and its first time i have had more then 2 penalties. Me(Chicago) at Jets i lost 5-1. I was 0/3 on powerplays and the computer was 1/2 on powerplays. Only thing i changed was was post play to authentic. 10:00 play time on pro.

Yes, latest patch, but the first tuner... I don't care about if winnipegs gloves and helmet are black, I mean I play with the Red Wings, will only face them a couple of times anyway...
What's the difference between the 1.00 tuner and 1.02 tuner?
Not sure only to say that in 1.00 I am drawing penalties and 1.02, I rarely drew penalties... Keep in mind, this is the tuner selection, playing with the current patch...
Usually when the tuners get altered, it screws a lot of things up, so I am assuming 1.00 is default (out of the box), which is why I chose that one to use in Be A Gm...
For all those concerned with the Jets helmets/gloves, that update actually occurs via a roster update, NOT via a tuner set.
Counterintuitive, I know, but true just the same. I've never stopped running Tuner V1.0 and the Jets have updated helmets/gloves.
Wish I could remember which EA roster update this fix was attached to, but I do not. I'd advise downloading all previous EA roster updates (all are present in the 'Download Rosters' screen). Also, to be safe, load each roster update after downloading it, just be sure the fix takes effect. Shouldn't take more than 20 mins when it's all said and done.
Not your cup o' tea? Head over to EA Forums and sift through all that bulls**t to find the post for Winnipeg Jets jerseys. There, you'll find exactly which roster update has the Jets fix affixed to it.

Finally, just to be clear, you do not have to run an old version of EA's rosters to see the fix. Rather, the fix takes effect once you download/load up the old roster update once. Like I said, I run Tuner V1.0, and I run a slightly modified version of mattg's tasty rosters, and have updated Jets gear.
I believe if you use roster 6 or 7 the Jets stuff is fixed.
As for the patch, I really like it. I've only played 2 games on the 360, but have noticed more penalties, slapshots from the point miss the net more, and hitting seems to have been tweaked as when I hit the cpu, the puck actually separates from them.

ok i guess its time to hook up my NHL 12 again and d/l this tuner

You should already have the tuner... It was the out of the box version of the tuner, the patch is to me making the difference in penalties this time... But I did try it with tuner 1.02 and I was not drawing any pims... (not patch but tuner)

sorry ..... d/l the patch now that mattg's released his updated roster file....time to play the game again

Good luck... I have been OVERLY critical of the penalty (lack of) issue all year and am having no problems now.... Now it is just an issue of learning how to run a good PP again because I didn't get but 1 PP every 5 games early on, now I am getting minimum of 3 a game... Seems MUCH better now...
And I want to ask, what is so different with the Matt guys rosters from EA's version??? Just wondering if I need to load those for myself, though in Be A GM, with trades and signings, would only matter for the first week before trades start happening...
