NBA 2K13 News Post

The '92 Dream Team & 2012 Olympic team will be featured in NBA 2K13. Charles Barkley is in, but Scottie Pippen couldn't get a deal worked out.

It's cool we get to battle it out between these 2 teams, but with Pippen off the roster, it puts a definite blemish on the announcement.

NBA 2K13 to Feature 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and Legendary 1992 "Dream Team"

2K Sports proudly announces partnership with USA Basketball for NBA 2K13

2K Sports today announced a partnership with USA Basketball to feature both the star-studded 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and the 1992 “Dream Team” in NBA 2K13, the next installment of the top-selling and top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise*.

“As executive producer, letting fans go head to head with these legendary USA teams was extremely important to JAY Z,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We are excited to partner with USA Basketball, and share in JAY Z’s enthusiasm in making this a reality in NBA 2K13.”

The 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team has earned recognition as one of USA Basketball’s all-time greatest teams. NBA 2K13 cover athlete Kevin Durant helped lead the USA to its successful showing and joins the elite list of accomplished basketball players who have represented USA Basketball.

“It was an incredible blessing to have been part of the 2012 USA Basketball National Team,” said Durant. “USA Basketball's National Team legacy is incredible and so many of basketball’s all-time greats have been part of it, I’m just honored to be in that group. Like everybody, I can’t wait to see how our squad stacks up against the 1992 team in NBA 2K13.”

The original “Dream Team” is widely considered the most dominant sports team ever assembled, and featured 11 Hall of Fame players including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, David Robinson and Charles Barkley.

“The experience we shared in Barcelona is truly one of the highlights of my career,” said five-time NBA MVP and former NBA 2K cover athlete Michael Jordan. “Being able to represent not only my country but basketball as a whole is an honor that I will never forget.”

“The fantasy matchup between the legendary 1992 ‘Dream Team’ and the 2012 USA Men’s national team has become one of the greatest sports debates of our time,” stated JAY Z, the Executive Producer of NBA 2K13. “In NBA 2K13, we’re giving fans the opportunity to play as two of the best teams ever assembled in sporting history, literally putting the debate right into their hands.”

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, NBA 2K13 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available on October 2, 2012 in North America and October 5, 2012 internationally for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Wii™ system and Windows PC. Although without JayZ we wouldnt have Charles Barkley. Both are very big announcements.

Im not sure what some of you guys are expecting with these announcements...2k is the closest thing to having a complete basketball experience with *almost* everything being near perfection. I emphasize almost since somethings cant be updated due to licencing issues or just not able to do it on this gen of consoles.

Also these announcements hit home to the casual fan more so than the hardcore fan. An improved passing system for example might not mean anything to the casual fan but means everything to us, where as the Jay Z and Dream Team means the world to them and are so so to us.

Its not like 2k has a terrible game base and then adding fluff. They have a solid to great base and are improving it year after year.

Does this mean there will be no Bulls team? And if that's the case, is it safe to say there will also be no Legend teams this year?

So great we have barkley, but not on Suns?http://kotaku.com/5934875/michael-jo...ts-in-nba-2k13

Yea, I know "you PC gamers have had the Dream team and every team that has ever played basketball on your HDD, so quit rubbing it in. But, for us console guys, this is awesome.

It's gonna be really cool having the authentic uniforms and Sir Charles. I play with some roster created by rksoundz with a created Dream Team and the 2012 team, and it's pretty well done. But, having the real threads for each team will be so nice.

I wonder if we get the option to play in London or Barcelona, and if this finally means we can play with the Suns.

Meh, about Pippen. He wasn't a huge focus on The Dream Team, so it won't bother me. As long as he is still on the Bulls.

None of these modes will likely be impacted by this announcement. #overhyped
I didn't hear there was going to be an announcement until 10am this morning. How much hype could they have possibly built since I last signed on at 4pm yesterday? I'm supposing the hype consisted of one person saying a huge announcement was coming, yes?

Also, I object to the idea that "Most 2K players are playing myplayer, association/online association, team-up, and ranked matches" if it was intended to suggest folks will not care about this inclusion. That is not the case with most of the people I know who play 2K. I mean, many of them play other modes, but to suggest that's all they care about is far-fetched and off base (if that was in fact what you were suggesting). I think polls you see given on 2K Facebook sites or where ever else can often be misleading in terms of what the people really want. A certain crowd will venture onto Facebook and vote in polls. I'd venture to say the vast majority of 2K gamers will not make their voices heard on such social media outlets, particularly the over 17 crowd, who'd probably make up a significant portion of those who value features including classic players, teams, or modes.

Yeah I'm curious about this as well....

Was hoping they added Wookie Walton's team for 2k13

Usually they would've announced it by now...so I'm guessing that there are no legendary teams this year...

Why would 2k take out all of the legends teams? They were a huge success. Thousands of 2k basketball fans would be very dissapointed and everyone would hate 2k and Ronnie2k twitter account would be filled with negative posts and alot of players would cancel their pre-order. The classic teams are here to stay. They already have Scottie on the classic bulls team. They can't remove him from it. I'm sure Scottie Pippen's likeness will still be used in the classic bulls team, but not the dream team. Maybe 2k could let us make transactions to the dream team and then we could have Pippen on the dream team. I hope.

Dang, I feel for 2k trying to please everyone. There are so many type of fans who see what's important differently. I can just imagine if they made announcement about something else and then fans would complain about that.
They should have announced the Brooklyn Nets jerseys and their arena, watch the uproar. There are always going to be that fan you can please at all.

I will have an internal meltdown if classic teams were not included. My educated guess would be we haven't heard about classic teams yet this year because there may not be a mode entirely devoted to them. It might be an NHL 2K5 situation where many classic teams are available but they're sort of under the radar. That's my hope anyway.

Pretty cool. I mean, it's not something I would ever use, but I can see the appeal.

2k package an announcement as "huge" but fail to provide everything that is a part of that team. You can hardly call an incomplete team a "huge" announcement. 2k should really aim to provide something that doesnt require editing. So people can play the game. While that's an impossible task, it kind of feels like there not even trying anymore, cause they just assume someone will edit it in.

I've always criticised people who complain about shoes, accesories and stuff not being in, cause those are fluid things that change IRL all the time. I've been a big 2k defender. But to provide a team, call it a huge feature, but then say "although it's not actually the full team" is a big let down to the community.
^^^^THIS. I was super excited until I found out Pippen wasn't in. In 2k12, we can kind of create the dream team with no Barkely. In 2k13, we have the dream team with no Pippen. Seriously, what's the difference? Authentic jerseys, players' ages and some minor yet inaccurate tweaks of the ratings? SMH..
I can't wait to try out their physics engine and new control systems but this isn't even an announcement to me since the team is incomplete AGAIN.

This is just so confusing. Jay Z was able to get Barkley in the game, the guy that's refused forever, but he couldn't get Pippen to come back? And Barkley might not even be on the Suns?

People clamor for the Dream Team, they get it and now they all complain?

Great feature, won't use it much other then fooling around with a friend but cool.

# 138 Nitrous_18 @ 08/15/12 12:22 PM
This is good news, not really a bombshell announcement but it's better than the Jay Z announcement which had a dragged on build up.

At this point legends doesn't really blow my mind, 2k12 gave me more than enough already so this is just icing on the cake.

Who am I going to play these Dream Teams against? Each other? Okay that's fun for one game... then what?

When there are "huge announcements" people want something substantial, not gimmicks meant to sell more copies of the game.

The difference? Presentation directly focused on the dream team, commentary that discusses the dream team, authentic jerseys. Oh and also the fact that we have no ****ing idea what mode they are going to be in.

There could be an olympic mode, a Fiba mode, a enhanced Legendary team mode....or there could be nothing. Its incomplete because we dont have all the information.
