Lot of long pauses in 07. Also good God was 07 fast-paced

Like nearly everyone else has said the presentation looks really good. The dynamic camera angles that show more of the crowd are also well done. However the commentary is sub standard. This is not quality stuff at all. Lines like 'Look at this!' and 'one team, 3 goals' return the series to a totally generic level of immersion that will jar with the best presentation the series has probably seen. It reminds me a bit of 2k10 with that broadcast cam angle being so great but the crowd volume and intensity was way off.

For me the gameplay looks mostly like what we have always had however the side ways dekes look like the players are going very wide and it doesnt look realistic. They look like arcade dekes. But they look different to 14 for better or worse? Demo will reveal.

The players playing were horrible defensively in the clips we saw and what worries me is that this hum vs hum gameplay completely conceals the CPU boosting and rampaging mentality that is EA's trademark. NO presentation will be able to save a game that refuses to address these silly and frustrating imbalances.

Like someone has already said once the presentation gets stale (and the commentary will kill it quickly) I reckon this game will still be what we have always had in an offline capacity.

Now, I am glad they have vamped up the presentation but I am sure we have already played this game. The key in these developer releases these days is marketing...to sell a product. Marketing aims to dress up, embellish, spin hype to get positive attention. These videos do the presentation aspects of 15 of the marketing hype some justice but the actual gameplay is still a trick of the emperors new clothes for mine.

All the Madden footage ive seen is Xbox 1 as well. pretty sure EA is a little ticked with Sony for denying EA access.

As far as the videos. I watched them at work with the sound muted. was super excited from what I saw. I got home and watched again with the volume on. Buzz kill. The commentary is baaaad. reminded me of the previous wwe games. so generic. play by play doesnt even use names.

it will get better however. I remember Maddens commentary was similarily bad when they changed commentators.

After watching the videos again for the 20th time I noticed the score board is blocking a nice chunk of the upper screen. Some what distracting

No dive, no hook, nada! where is this hockey IQ that ea is bragging about? This is ridiculous, goalies still have the same animations from 07, thats 7 years ago! Fifa just revamped goalies so why the NHL team didnt i dont know. I hate to be a negative nancy, i really do, but honestly its hard to watch this year after year and see nothing done about it. Come on EA, I see some effort but lets face it, its not 100%. Im done ranting but im a little disappointed in the effort behind this years game.
I dont know why EA decides that they only need a handful guys to work on NHL....wherein fact there's so much things that needed improvement.

Sure presentation is great...but Im very sure after playing the several games, you'll see the same pre-game video, same animations (goalie stretching etc.), same lines..... this presentation will wear off fast.

Im glad that they put back the team goal celebration. I cant wait to play the demo and for the X1 gamers who will be able to play this game 5 days early to give their findings about this game.

Not true, a lot of it has been PS4. In fact, the developer livestreams they were doing were being played on PS4.

gameplay looks awesome... i ask many time in the EA forum for real arena celebration with real goal light... and special things like the canon in columbus and smoke with blue and yellow lights in buffalo... and i think they take some of my idea... because you see the lights flashing in florida and i see in another video the 5 cercles when the blues scores.. just miss the jumbotron with smoke... shark dont have light when they score... and you dont see no lights see i think you will have the blue and yellow in buffalo and they kings and dallas lights too.. philly with the orange cercle around the player.. its a little things that make the game feel reel..

I am hoping that is reserved for big goals (overtime win, late goal in the 3rd, playoffs etc). Overall I don't mind the commentary as is, it's not over the top to the point where they never shut up (see: Phil Simms in Madden) but it still provides enough context to keep you entertained.

Not to mention the majority of the Madden content was shown on PS4. EA cares more about game sales and more importantly HUT sales than anything. And with the PS4 currently being the top selling console they can't afford to be upset with Sony.

First I must say that graphics and presentation are just incredible! It adds so much to simulation aspect when they show us commentators, stats, realistic camera angles and even use the real tune for broadcasting. And this all is on screen good amount of time so you really have time to read the stats, feel the atmosphere and just enjoy the presentation overall. Great work on that one!

However these videos unfortunately seem to tell the truth about this series biggest problem which been there for a long time. Problem which many, many gamers have noticed and EA haven't done anything about it. And the problem is Defense. Or should I say lack of it.

Developers been tooting about ground up built AI but is this really the case? To me it seems that at least Defense is ported straight from earlier version because it is as pathetic as usual. Dmen retreat on situations where they should give pressure. They twirl with no purpose in front of the net where they should tie or detract their opponent. They just adrift on their own destinated area's when they should go and fill the gap (which was created when human controlled player played himself out of the position). This is all very simple, basic hockey stuff and yet it's not in the game.

Right now cpu controlled defenders are as useful as pins with hockey sticks. No matter on what level game is played it shouldn't give that much leverage on offense. Pull a deke and you are alone! More tools for the offense and it makes the game more realistic experience says EA. Well in reality it's not. Game of hockey has two sides. I surely will wait to see the final product so maybe it's different? Maybe they suprise us by giving ground up built AI (defense also) just like they promised. But right now based on the stuff we've seen I'm not that confident.

I haven't read through the post you guys have added so i could be alone when I say this game looks great, now this is coming from someone who knows nothing about hockey but would actually learn more about the sport so i could enjoy this game proper!

You guys would watch a lot more hockey than me, but this game seems to ignore the neutral zone, and players seem too willing to give up the blue line

# 73 Yzerman101 @ 08/16/14 07:46 AM
When you score in Nhl 15 the puck should not die in the net like in nhl 14 but i dont se any Changes in those videos do you guys??

from the articel

"Speaking of goals being scored, the puck now flies in and out of the net in awesome fashion, which I know will make a lot of people happy

This has been a problem ever since. Its like super easy to enter the zones....I just dump the puck just for the sake of dumping it.....because if not, i will not see this because of lack of pressure in the NZ.

Yep.

I was playing NHL a decade ago before I started watching games. The thing that shocked me about real NHL was the amount of play in the NZ and how ioften teams dumped and chased.

While I agree that the videos have not shown us doc and his excited 'scores', it still sounds more intense than some of you are stating. Gary Thorne in the previous years always had his excited call under a minute so I am assuming we will hear the the cracking voice by doc when the play permits.

Not impressed, this looks ALOT like 14 re skinned. The defensive awareness is atrocious, they still have no idea how to set the priorities for defensemen off the rush. I understand this was 2 humans playing, but you can see the gaffs in the one that the human is not controlling. In the past difficulty level has never effected this. This game will be a bust offline in the long term.

Looks great. I think some work has been done on the way the players transition their skating, or maybe it's just the new player models. The dekes looks improved and believable.

I've never been a big commentary guy, they sounded fine. I liked it when Ferraro interjected. I suspect the speed and chaotic context of hockey makes it a lot harder to program smooth believable commentary compared to the linearity of football, or the simplicity of basketball.

Gameplay has me optimistic. It looks like tweaked NHL 14, which is a good thing, no need to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Seeing the guys trip over each other was pretty cool.

I didn't really notice the new puck physics, but i wasn't really watching either

There's not a lot of it because the people playing decided to hit everything, but the chop on the Washington goal was nice because it didn't go through the player like in previous years. The dump in didn't bounce over the boards. It's hard to tell puck physics when the guys playing don't have a poke check button.

If this is the base they are working off of for the remainder of next gen we are all in for a treat.

Presentation looks insane!

My only gripe is the 2 man celebrations... Wish we got the group hug this year.
