NHL 15 News Post

The back of the NHL 15 box continues to add fuel to the fire that EASHL is not going to make an appearance in the final retail release. Rumors have been swirling for the past week or so that both EASHL and GM Connected have not made it into the current-gen versions of NHL 15.

With EASHL already confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, EA Sports has been quiet on announcing any modes for the newer generation console.

Today, back of the box details were revealed by Costco of all places. While the Xbox 360 version shows online multiplayer for 2-12 players, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions only show 1-2 players -- which would tend to indicate EASHL has not made the jump onto the new generation.

Keep in mind the NHL team, despite having an extra year, is a much smaller team compared to other sports games produced by EA Sports. It's not unfeasible that even with the extra time the extra work needed for something like EASHL just presented too much of a challenge to the NHL team. If the mode is indeed not in the game, it is likely you will hear news about it next week as EA Sports plans to start announcing NHL 15 game modes next week.

It is also possible that the mode will not be in the game at launch, but could be patched in later. However, at this point we don't have much news on which modes have made it in or out of the game, so it's impossible to confirm or deny anything. Requests for comment from EA have gone unanswered -- which usually isn't a good sign.

Are you buying NHL 15 if either GM Connected or EASHL aren't in the game?

No, I'm pretty sure that Ultimate Team is to NHL what Ultimate Team is to FIFA.

And you would be wrong.

I'm a huge hockey fan, have been for 20 years and EASHL is by far my favorite mode. And even if it is largely made up of casuals, as you so eloquently put it, don't you think that once they realize that EASHL is not in the X1/PS4 versions of the game (if its true) they'll skip it? That's a big chunk gone.

I know that if it's true, I'll be skipping NHL 15 and go pick up a used copy of 14 on the Xbox to play with my team.

And you are severely uneducated on EASHL.

Guess I can save my $60 for another year.

EASHL is (or was) the greatest achievement in online sports gaming history.

Period.

I find it interesting that on the one hand the box says for Xbox one systems only and then just below it shows a picture of a dualshock 4 controller. Me think it is a fake.

It says Xbox Live and then has all Playstation logos below..

Come on OS.
It's two different covers. The think that throws me off is the ps4 says 2-2, when a game like madden just says 2. Makes me think those numbers are nothing more than a placeholder until game modes are announced.

Here's another thing about about the popularity of EASHL. Just from reading on this website, it seems as some of the guys who are disappointed in the offline gameplay turned to EASHL to get some enjoyment out of the game. So if the offline play remains relatively similar (it looks like it has) then those people won't even be able to turn to EASHL to have some fun. When you really look at it, EASHL is probably a pretty decent experience if you get 12 players who are all on the same page of playing a realistic cheese free brand of hockey. 12 smart hockey minds would definitely take out most of the annoying things the AI is programmed to do. I haven't played the mode since the first year it came in, 09 I believe. That was just a cheese fest since it was the very first year of the mode. Me and my friends would play but all they wanted to do was glitch and what not so it got really boring very quick.

This series has been on thin ice for a few years for real hockey fans. The game is stale, every game plays the same. Playing EASHL and being able to avoid AI for the most part is the only thing that made the game tolerable.

If its out, I know my whole team wont buy the game, the hockey just isnt good enough or realistic enough to warrant me playing that much with the AI. It doesnt represent the sport good enough to lack such a monster game mode.

I don't even play EASHL but on general principle I'll wait a little bit after release and buy this game used. EA don't deserve my money. I'd rather get ripped off by gamestop on this one.

Never got into EASHL but was hoping to this year. I'm more concerned about Connected GM though, I'll be very disappointed if that is out.
I don't get the silence from EA with this.

Well this time last week I was in the belief that no way can it not be included. Now I'm getting the feeling that it's a no go. If not if they announce a patch or update later on I would be okay with that

You hit it right on the head. One of the biggest reasons EASHL is so appealing is that you avoid the awful AI. If this game(that I love) doesn't have the worst AI in any sports game then I need someone to educate me. A year of only playing versus would be an absolute nightmare.

Not concerned with EASHL but I'm sure many will be. EA typically drop something from a game when it's first released on a new console. I'm just hoping that the Single Season Mode with the ability to control multiple teams is still in.

No worries it will be reintroduced as a "new feature" next year, per EA's past profile. Although this is a big loss. I loved this mode when it first came out then got stale on it as players just boosted to improve. I think the EASHL and the online franchise mode in NCAA football were two of the greatest achievements in online sports gaming. I am still very excited to buy the game.

Just seems odd looking at the box that the Xbox Live column has NO entry where it says Co-op but all the other entries are there...I don't know what that would mean, but it doesn't look right, to me anyway.

NHL 14 offline was terrible this year IMO. i tried to get into it but just couldnt! maybe if we had discovered the off/def edits 5 months ago LOL.

but compared to NHL 13, where i played through 2 seasons late in the cycle and went through the offseason as well prior to 14 dropping. bah!

my buds and i do turn to the EASHL to play and bs about hockey and life etc.

its just unreal that if we want to do that this cycle we have to buy the 360 version of the game. sigh!
