Madden NFL 16 News Post


Over on our YouTube channel, I took a deeper look at penalties in Madden NFL 16. Penalties are a focus in the game this season, so I tweaked the new penalty sliders and played a game to see what results came about. In the end, Joe Flacco is definitely the star of the show.

It's also fair to confirm that the penalty sliders work. Simply moving them plus-10 impacted the game in a major way. I would say be very careful when tweaking these sliders.

I may be in the minority but I love the amount of penalties being called. Even the buggy ones like False Starts just coming out of the huddle.

NFL games are full of penalties and it has been so unrealistic a for well over a decade that you could play a full game without any called.

There seems to be more penalties called on 3rd downs which is annoying.

But I hope they don't tune penalties at all. Leave them as is and let everyone adjust the sliders to their liking.

I'm with you 100 percent. It's a tricky thing on some level based on user control and all that, but if it's a sim you can't ignore that penalties exist in the sport.

Hey booker, I haven't settled on any as of yet as this is more just a testing and feedback area. If you're looking for penalty sliders, definitely head to the sliders sub-forum here. Plenty of people are messing with them now, Armor & Sword has some sliders here for example that include his penalty sliders.

I thought it was just me but I am finding that since the game was released I am seeing fewer penalties especially PI and D holding and this is with it cranked up to 95..I played the access trial and was getting tons of penalties but now its like its back to the way it used to be..This is in strictly Play Now Mode as well...I wonder if a tuner was thrown in or data implemented..

Please bring cpu penalties to h2h.... I really don't care if I lose due to a penalty - that's football.

So after not seeing a holding penalty at all with the slider at 60 in 3 games I just tried last game with it at like 70 and saw like 3 of them.

Am I the only one getting about 6 Offensive Holding calls per game?

I'm extremely frustrated that I can't play a realistic game of madden with my friends online. You can't control everyone on the field at the same time. PENALTIES HAPPEN. We all should lose a game because of a CPU penalty. The best players, QBS, coaches, have all lost games out of their control. It makes it even more exciting down the stretch. This is my biggest problem with the game... And really my only problem. Minus CF Freezes

I love Penalties this year, but they have a BIG problem
They are always against the CPU

I played around 15 games already. And i have only 1 game were USER team got more penalties than the CPU Team.

I usually end with 8 penalties against 3 user or 9 penalties vs 2 User.

This is the end really impact the challenge of the game and make it harder for they AI to win the game.

I hope in the future they tweak this area.

I`m playing All pro default by the way.

That's totally not the case for me. IMO it's well balanced with me actually getting more than the CPU most of the time.

55 for everything but the roughing penalties which are still at 50.

Interesting I'm finding it's more that the visiting team always has more.

I find both these posts interesting. I agree with you guys that there should be penalties in online games. Is this different or the same as blown calls though? Like getting a challenge wrong or something, do you feel wronged by that even if sometimes you think refs in real life blow calls? Or is this okay because you see the penalty occur via an animation, but with a blown call it just shouldn't happen?

I assume he means Roughing the Passer as that's the only "roughing" penalty slider in the game.

I posted this in the bugs thread but the defensive holding slider is broken in CFM. You can set it, leave the settings and go right back in and it is at 50. the other sliders appear to work as cosmetically their values change and I see them called during the game but i have yet to see a defensive holding called at 50 and I can't change it.

Otherwise I love them during the game, they have cost me and helped me at times. Getting a big DPI called for you is fantastic.

I assume he means Roughing the Passer as that's the only "roughing" penalty slider in the game.
Please Chase pass this on. Game feels incomplete in h2h matches due to lack of penalties - I mean what's the point of adding the new catch stuff in if no offensive and defensive PI calls are made online?


As of right now I have to share play with friends to play with penalties - that's crap.
