Kobe one of the best of all time. The 60 point game in his farewell prove that.

I get it's obvious marketing, but when the game becomes more about marketing then the actual game itself is what worries me. All the game modes, features, all come down to they are easy to market, better than the actual play of the game itself.

They focus more on marketing tactics than anything else. Back in the day, like 2k-2k11 they spent all the time on the actual gameplay and fluidity of the game.

Once the game exploded around 2k11, they've had a crutch. 2k12/2k13 they had the success of Jordan & 2k11 gameplay to milk. 2k14 they had next gen graphics. 2k15 they had the next gen graphics to milk & a shot meter for the mass of kids then 2k16 they clearly were running dry so tried ANOTHER Jordan edition. Now they can breath again because they have Kobe finale and Warriors 73 wins (after a bs win in Memphis mind you) to milk.

Before this they were constantly changing the game every year and they need to do that to reach a new peak on next gen like 2k11 old gen before they keep recycling like they are now.

While I agree with a lot of your points, the fact is that marketing and development are two different things and two different departments. Doing one great doesn't mean they're slacking off in another.

But yea, I'd love to see some cool new additions next year. I didn't pre-order yet as I'm like you and want to see what they have to offer before I dive in, but I have no problem with others doing so. I know I pre-ordered Star Wars: Battlefront like waaaaay too early lol

AS has been said on many occassion in this very forum. Gameplay team ONLY works on gameplay ALL YEAR LONG. does not matter what marketing does because marketing is it's own department.

Nobody comes down to my office and says Czar stop working on that I can't market it give me something to market. LOL. But... carryon sirs.

In fact how much gameplay info do you actually hear from marketing ? I believe most of the info you get if found on blogs or dev insights or dev posts made here of all places or on my own youtube channel right ?

There is not a whole lot sexy about gameplay that is even marketable to casuals IMO.

I don't know why people feel like voluntary pre-orders which all games do have anything to do with the quality or lack there-of of the game especially gameplay. I should know better than to even respond but my fingers just couldn't pass it by. LOL!

My honest opinion, it isn't even the gameplay designers - they pump out some great ideas and movements, it's that they need someone with a better eye for detail to catch all the simple idiocies that ruin the gameplay first and foremost. It feels that they don't even test there own game fully. They could have a real NBA fan/real gamer sit and test it out religiously throughout the process and have a lot more success than having to drop patches that fix bits & pieces of it.

I'm not an expert in game design, but I can clearly see the improvement from 2k10 to 2k11 vs the lack of improvement each year since then gameplay wise.

I understand marketing and gameplay are seperate departments. It's like how a studio edits & releases trailers for a movie, not the directors. But, the point is, this game is making it's $$ off all the hype and marketing now, and it's resulting in lazy gameplay development simply because, they can get away with it easily now.

Also not sure why you laugh at your own jokes/posts?

Shame on 2k man...offering an optional pre order was unheard of in the gaming industry before they started this crap.

Greed man, I remember the day where company's operated on love and happiness not money. I could go to game stop, say "simulation" and they would hand me a copy of 2k for free....now I have to pay 59.99

Ridiculous #jumpedtheshark

Depending where you are, a pre-order is very necessary. I remember when I was younger, pre-ordering Madden was a must because it'd be sold out on release day. I also remember when you pre-ordered and all you got was the game you paid for. I'll happily take the add-ons and bonuses for "free". I don't understand your complaint of how offering pre-order is some type of sellout.

I also don't feel this is the thread to go on about your issues with gameplay. There are plenty of impression and wishlist threads for that. Let's not derail this thread any further.

Wheres Dirk's special edition cover?

# 74 NINJAK2 @ 05/04/16 09:15 PM
I'm praying that 2k finally does something similar to 2k11 with this Kobe edition and has some individual game challenges (ex: score 81 against jalen rose and the raptors or try to beat the 97 Jazz playing with a shook Shaq, VanExel, etc who all have depleted confidence and bad hands in the fourth).

We all did the Michael Jordan NBA 2K11 Challenge. How great would it be to do one of Kobe Bryant through the years, especially given he’s been with 2K every year, he has the Legend Edition cover, and the announcement of his retirement. 2K17 would be the most epic and FUN 2K in history if they did the Mamba Challenge and it went something like this:

Mamba Challenge:

  • 1997 Slam Dunk Championship
2K said they are adding All-Star Weekend this time, so why not have an only 19 year old Kobe starting his career in style.
    Goal: Win the dunk competition.
  • Vs. Indiana – June 19, 2000, NBA Finals Game 6
Goal: Win NBA Championship #1, Score 26 pts, 10 rebounds
  • Vs. Philadelphia – June 15, 2001 NBA Finals Game 5
The best playoff basketball team in NBA history; why not re-live the legacy?
Goal: Win NBA Championship #2, Score 26 points, 12 rebounds
  • Vs. Nets, June 12, 2002 – NBA Finals Game 4
Goal: Win NBA Championship #3, Score 25 points, 8 assists
  • Vs. Seattle, January 7, 2003
The day Kobe broke the all-time record for most 3 pointers in a game!
Goal: Win the game, make 12 3 point shots, 7 rebounds
  • Vs. Washington, March 28, 2003
We always had the Jordan vs. Kobe comparisons, so why not re-live the final time the two ever played each other? It was a passing of a torch and what a game Kobe left the Airness with remembering…
Goal: Win, 55 points, make 9 3 Point shots
  • Vs. Dallas, December 20, 2005
    He outscored the whole team!
Goal: Win the game, and score 62 points before the entire Dallas team!
  • vs. Toronto, January 22, 2006
We all remember this infamous game!
Goal: Win the game, 81 points, shoot 60% or over
  • vs. Phoenix, May 6, 2006, Western Conference First Round
Although you likely won’t relive those moments, we all want this game and matchup because of the whole MVP debate that year of Nash or Kobe, as well as reliving those two buzzer beating shots!
Goal: Win the game, 24 points, 8 assists
  • Vs. Portland, March 16, 2007
Goal: Win, 65 points, shoot 58% or higher
  • Vs. Cleveland, January 19, 2009
We all want to see a prime Kobe vs. LeBron one more time.
Goal: Win, 12 assists, hold LeBron James to 23 points or less
  • Vs. Knicks, February 9, 2009
We all remember when he broke the Most Points in Madison Square Garden, surpassing MJ. Spike Lee must be courtside for this one…
Goal: Win, 61 points, make ALL free throws
  • 2009 NBA All-Star Game
Who doesn’t want to play an All-Star game one more time with all those big names? Sure, this is one of Kobe’s many All-Star Game MVP’s received, but this is where he re-united with Shaquille O’Neal and they won the MVP awards together.
Goal: Win the game, win All-Star Game MVP, make sure Shaq scores 17 pts
  • Vs. Orlando, June 4, 2009 NBA Finals Game 1
Goal: Win the game that lead to Championship #4, 40 Points, 8 assists
  • Vs. Boston, June 17, 2010, NBA Championship Game
My most anticipated game of my life, and in many ways the end of the Mamba era. We must have a Celtic vs. Laker rivalry, and relive this one.
Goal: Win NBA Championship #5, get the Player of the Game / MVP award, score 23 points
  • Vs. Utah, April 13, 2016
The farewell game. “Mamba Day”; an older fatigued Kobe doing it special again one last time. Why not end it as special as his career was.
Goal: Win the game, 60 points, shoot 44% or higher

Let’s do this 2K, and this would be the greatest basketball game of all time!
