‘The Big Aristotle’ Shaquille O’Neal Booms Back to the Court in NBA® 2K18 Legend Edition

Newly enshrined NBA Hall of Famer, dominant basketball icon and ultimate basketball big man honored on special game cover; fans to receive exclusive memorabilia and in-game content

2K today announced that NBA 2K will feature Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal on the cover of the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition. This special edition of the top-rated NBA video game simulation series for the last 16 years* gives the court to the big man who needs no introduction, “The Diesel…The Big Aristotle…Superman…Shaq Daddy…” with special Shaq-themed memorabilia and content, extending his legacy as the most dominant center in NBA history.

Quote:
“I want to thank NBA 2K for their continuous support of my basketball and broadcast career,” said O’Neal, whose Hall of Fame enshrinement late last year celebrates a storied 19-year career. “I’m excited to be on the cover of the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition and I hope my fans have a blast playing it up big man style and re-creating my most legendary in-game moments!”

O’Neal’s Legend Edition appearance on NBA 2K18 marks the third NBA 2K cover appearance for the 15-time NBA All-Star and 14-time All-NBA selection. O'Neal, who played 19 NBA seasons, was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

The NBA 2K18 Legend Edition and Legend Edition Gold will be available in both digital and physical formats for $99.99 and $149.99, respectively, on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, and Xbox One. NBA 2K18 Legend Edition and Legend Edition Gold will be available in physical format on Nintendo Switch. The NBA 2K18 Legend Edition Gold physical edition is available exclusively at GameStop.

Developed by Visual Concepts, NBA 2K18 is not yet rated by the ESRB. NBA 2K18 will be available for PlayStation®4 system and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC platforms on September 19, 2017.

Fans can pre-order NBA 2K18 at participating North American retail and online vendors, ensuring they receive their copy and in-game bonuses four days early beginning on September 15, 2017.

They definitely only cares about money. This is the problem with zero competency.

2K is getting even richer with this "VC" thing. Nice business.

I'm not going to buy 2k18. For what? More cap attributes, problems because they don't separate online/offline modes. Gameplay feels slow and weird on My Career. No different body types etc

$150??? Did I miss the presser announcing that 2K had hired Lavar Ball on their marketing staff?

Just my own personal take, but I thought his press release comments were just a broad means of saying, "I'm looking forward to using my virtual self in 2K and doing the stuff I used to do".

What a generic looking cover. That has to be one of the worst sports covers of any sports game I've ever seen. My brother is a graphic designer and could literally do a better job in like 20 minutes. I actually don't really care how cover looks, but 2k should put some effort into it.

On anoTher note: I'm glad Shaq is on the cover. Hopefully he'll get a big upgrade on his player model. 2k17 Shaq looked horrible.

I just hope that there were lessons learned from 2k17s early launch. Including the way they released info for the game. Last year was brutal. For me though 2K always bounces back hard. I wasn't a huge fan of 2K14 and 2K15 hit every problem point for me. 2K17 had been a mess up until about a month or so I'm optimistic about 2K18.

2k, playboy, I'm giving you $60, + Tax, nothing more.

Those extra "editions" year in and year out, have never been worth it

# 67 SavoyPrime @ 05/08/17 06:49 PM
I'm more interested in them getting the game back to the 2K11 glory days... >_>

Think the same thing was said on the Kobe edition and it was confirmed that not a new mode, just taken out of context

Yeah it was sad they only had the "frobe" Kobe. I was thinking we'd at least get a team of him and Gasol.

It's crazy though to read this, and know with 100% certainty that I'm not going to pre-order the game for the first time ever.
Exactly. The only way I would buy 2K18 is...

1. Read 2 weeks of impressions on OS. I'm a proud Amazon Prime member.

2. Watch and/or read reviews from professional reviewers day of release.

I'm not pre-ordering NBA 2K18 for the first time since NBA 2K11. I just can't. I am shocked about the $150 price tag for the Legend Edition Gold. Never ceases to amaze me. I'm still pondering if I should get Injustice 2 Ultimate Edition. I just don't get the prices.

All in all, I love the art and the Shaq covers. I thought the ad was hilarious. I'm happy for Shaq.

lets hope that Shaq actually looks like Shaq and not some truck driver.

# 72 de_jesus @ 05/08/17 09:56 PM
I honestly suggest people wait until January to purchase 2K18. That'll give us all enough time for the people who pre-ordered to tell us all about the game's persistent flaws, and get through 4 or so patches.

But I also suggest:

1. Ignore "professional" reviews. They don't know basketball. They won't know settings, or percentages, or body types, or freelance, or anything. The worst thing you could do is hang your hat on these reviews.

2. Ignore Twitter. I don't feel I need to explain this.

3. Don't expect a significant change from 2K17. We may get it, but I wouldn't bet any real money on it.

that is because they put the studio shaqs face on the playing shaqs face, don't know why they did that. It was fine before that

They're just using that extra 6 weeks before the season starts as a beta test for the game anyway.

I also have to remind all of you complaining about "the game" being $150...... that's NOT the price of 2k18. The GAME is $60. If you want to shell out extra for some VC and Shaq accessories, that's 100% optional.

Who's complaining about the price? Most are just in shock at the incredibly high price tag. Why would someone complain about something they can avoid?

$150 is insane. That's not a complaint, most of us are just bewildered.

I honestly don't think 2 weeks of reviews are enough. They can drop a Major patch right when you pick it up and it'll turn into NBA 2k18.5.

I'm waiting a few months.

Charles Barkley just said on NBA TNT that he'll do video games (I'm guessing he means NBA 2K) with the rest of the TNT crew when 2K Sports pay the retired players?

I want to take advantage of my Amazon Prime pre-order bonus. I'm not buying this game at full price 2-week period on Amazon or not. I'm buying NBA Live 18 regardless how bad it is just to support it. It's a 90% chance I will not buy or play 2K18 because of my frustrations with 2K17. This game has to be a highly rated game across the board for me to consider. No more blindly buying this franchise. Too many mishaps with this one for me to support 2K18. I can't do it.

better to buy a used one

I'm glad I'm on PC which means I can likely find a steam key for something less than 60$/€ whatever currency...
I remember when 2k first came out for PC, i was so glad the price was just 30€. Now we're on par with EA/Ubisoft bull**** overpriced games...

Because we got half the features. Now that we have full featured game we should be and are priced the full retail 60 dollars.
