Question on Redshirts and Team Needs

Was starting my 4th season this morning, and since i had the time i did things a bit different.

Prior to the season started, while i was arranging my depth chart i decided to go ahead and hit my obvious Redshirt players.

I advanced to the next week which was to populate my recruiting board, and when looking at team needs it said i needed 2 QBs.

Unless im mistaken, i have roughly 5 or 6 qbs on the roster.

Just curious if it is 100% certain that I need 2 QBs or if the game isn’t taking into consideration the QBs i already have redshirted?

This wasnt my only position like this. So kind of across the board it says i need to fill roster spots, but im pretty certain at some positions i habe more than enough players filling the spots.

Just trying to be certain i know whats going on with roster spots before i get to involved with recruiting, and wind up going after guys i may not actually need.

I think CPU takes into consideration what your scheme is. Each scheme has a preferred amount of players for each position. But, I do think us as users need to have an idea of how many players you need. I have ran into an issue where I ran into in my 7th season(first with a new school), I over recruited based on team needs and me wanting to bring in my old guys. So, I have to cut 20 players and it limits how many players you can cut at a position. I'm not comfortable cutting a high 70s-low 80s player. I rather cut a FR I just recruited

In my experience the “needs” are pretty FUBAR and I ignore them completely and just use my own personal needs. I.e. I always try to have:
4 QB, 5 HB, 2 FB, 8 WR, 4 TE, 7 OT, 7 G, 4 C, 7 DE, 6 DT, 7 OLB, 4 MLB, 8 CB, 4 FS, 4 SS.

Even if the game says I “need” 6 QBs, and I “only” have 4, I’ve never been forced to take a walk on QB.

I believe the “needs” are entirely incorrect as well. I have 17 seniors but somehow over 30 “needs”

Perhaps it’s considering where improvements can be made, but you absolutely have to evaluate your own roster to decide what spots to fill and not rely on the CPU

I think u need 3 qb in ur depth Chart. U can Play with true freshman for 4 or 5 Games an then redshirt them. I would recruit 18- 20 Players every year. More u dont need.

I have 10 WRs on my roster.i have 1 SR and maybe 1-2 JRs. I have 4 FR WRs that I redshirted. It still said I need a WR lol




You just got to go by feel. I have 4 QBs on my roster and I redshirted 2 of them i don't run many options and if I scramble, it's either out of bounds or sliding. I have a set amount of required depth for each position. Unless it's a recruit I can't pass up, I don't go over

I think this is true, because if I'm remebering correctly, it has the position grades listed on that page, too.

At first I followed the team needs stuff, but then realized I over recruited and had too many players at each position. So now I just ignore it and recruit what I KNOW I need help with
