What are Your Rivalry-Based Custom Conference Ideas? (Rivalry List Included!)

I just made a big list of all the rivalry games that are in NCAA 14. People have been asking for one since 2008. There were some other lists but they were inaccurate. With this, what kind of custom conferences can you guys make that centers around having the most rivalries between its members? There are some pretty odd rivalries in here - like did you know that Hawaii and Wyoming play for a trophy?

Bold means that the rivalry is especially important - it either has a trophy or a special name, and the commentators will usually talk about it in the pre-game too. If I missed any please tell me.

Nice list! I've always needed this during re-aligning conferences when starting my new dynasties

Re: What are Your Rivalry-Based Custom Conference Ideas? (Rivalry List Included!)

I once ran a dynasty with custom conferences that were entirely location based. So all the Texas and Oklahoma schools were in the B12 and all Florida schools were in the Sun Belt.

Another iteration I've done on that is you divide all of the schools up by geographic region. And then you sort them into the Power 5 and 5 mid-major conferences (which are tied to the geographic region of the P5 schools). i.e. B1G and MAC, PAC12 and MWC, etc. Then I had relegation after every season with the worst schools in the P5 moving down and the best schools in the lower conferences moving up. This actually worked out really well as decent programs don't slide into and then languish in mediocrity indefinitely (cough Pittsburgh cough). The lower strength of competition really helps get them back on their feet and with their recruiting.

Obviously, this greatly favors geographic rivalries relative to other rivalries.

I actually just did something like this - I tried to create the "optimal" conference alignment, using rivalries, historic series (some aren't considered "rivalries" in the game, but teams have history with each other), and a promotion/relegation system (the worst team in a power conference goes down, champion of a mid-major goes up). Power and mid-major conferences were paired so that mid-majors with lots of P5 rivalries would be tied to that P5 conference. I also use the editor to add rivalries when teams get promoted or relegated.

I was trying to do something fun and different while still keeping it sensible. If your goal is only to maximize rivalries, you could just set things back to how they were before teams started leaving the Big 12.

Anyway, I looked at a few different alignments, but my favorite (what I use):

With the recent Big 12 expansion talks, is there any way to factor those in to a "future" Big 12 that still retains its classic rivalries? It seems to me that the Big 12 is doomed when it comes to that. Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, and Texas A&M just took away so much when they left.
