Occam's NHL 24 and NHL 25 Sliders

Hey everyone,

After some time away from sliders due to personal reasons, I’m back to share two slider sets I’ve been working on for NHL 24 and NHL 25, each tailored to 6 minute period lengths and superstar difficulty.

Occam's NHL 24 CPU vs CPU Sliders Redux Set: Designed for 6-minute periods on Superstar difficulty, this set focuses on a realistic flow, where skating, passing, puck battles, and goaltending behave like they do in the NHL.

New Dedicated NHL 25 CPU vs CPU Slider Set: My goal with this set was to make the players in the game truly shine. I’ve adjusted the sliders so that everything is attribute-exclusive, which means players are now highly individualistic and play with their own unique personality. For example:

Aggression at 0 ensures the game solely relies on each player’s individual aggression stat.

Puck control, checking, balance, and passing are all based entirely on player attributes.

Real stopwatched speed is included to make skating feel authentic and true to life.

Think of my NHL 25 sliders like an operating system for your game.

Just like an operating system facilitates the interaction between your computer’s hardware and software, my NHL 25 sliders provide a framework that lets player attributes and custom rosters function naturally without interference. There's no artificial influence, no "tweaking" of outcomes—everything works as it should based on the true attributes of the players and teams.

In other words, my NHL 25 sliders create an environment where the game operates purely on the systems built within it, just like an OS lets software run smoothly without changing how it fundamentally works. This allows you to experience the game exactly as it's meant to be, with each player's performance driven by their real attributes, not external adjustments.

Both sets aim to reflect what happens on the ice, providing a simulation-like experience without unnecessary flair or gimmicks. I’ve spent a lot of time fine-tuning details like puck control, skating agility, and AI reactions to ensure an authentic feel.

Below are the full settings for both sets. As always, feel free to share your thoughts or adjustments—your feedback is always welcome!

Although many of you might already know this, there’s an important detail to keep in mind when switching slider sets: the Fall and Stumble Fall Ease slider under Checking settings always resets to 30 when a new set is applied, so be sure to adjust it back.

After correcting this, exit the sliders menu without saving, and head directly to the Rules section. Here, you’ll notice that Post Whistle Rules often defaults to Relaxed after a slider set change. Be sure to change this back to Authentic, then return to the sliders menu to save the set.

This reset happens every time you change slider sets, so it’s worth double-checking to maintain accuracy. Making these adjustments ensures your gameplay remains consistent and as realistic as intended.

AFTER SETTING SLIDERS, REMEMBER TO EXIT GAME AND REBOOT CONSOLE.

Full Info on Slider saving:

Set your sliders and save them..
Be sure to also check your Fall and Stumble Fall Ease slider under Checking and Post Whistle Rules under Rules in Settings. Then save your set.

Exit the Game Completely:

After you’ve made your changes and exited the settings menu, it’s important to fully exit the game.

Reboot the Console:
Rebooting the console is necessary to ensure that the game fully reloads all settings from the beginning. Sometimes, exiting and re-entering the game isn’t enough, and old settings might still be in use, or the new settings may not load properly. Rebooting clears the console’s memory and ensures the settings are correctly applied and stable for your session.

Re-enter the Game:
After rebooting, re-enter the game without touching the settings menu. Doing so ensures that your changes are reflected in gameplay without triggering any further reloads or resets. Avoid entering the settings menu unless absolutely necessary to prevent the game from reloading the settings and potentially causing issues with your slider configurations.

Any Further Changes in Settings:
If you make any additional changes in the settings menu after your initial adjustments, this can trigger a reload of the sliders. Even minor changes in sound, or gameplay settings can cause the game to reload all settings—including sliders. This reload could lead to unintended changes or a skewed slider configuration if you don't immediately exit the game and reboot your console after making your adjustments.

Ensuring Proper Slider Application:
Following this method should ensure that the game correctly loads and applies your settings. This reduces the chances of unintended changes to sliders or gameplay and helps maintain the desired experience.

Consistency:
By rebooting and ensuring the settings are loaded freshly, you ensure consistent and stable gameplay. This reduces the chances of encountering bugs or errors with sliders, ensuring a smoother and more predictable experience.

Sleep Mode:
If you're having trouble with slider settings not applying correctly in NHL, the issue might be tied to the Xbox Series X's sleep mode. I’ve been incredibly frustrated dealing with this, as I noticed my sliders weren’t sticking—even after rebooting the game. I stumbled upon the problem after seeing that my sliders had changed following a long pause in the game. That’s when I suspected sleep mode was somehow interfering.

To address this, I turned off sleep mode completely, switched to Energy-Saving Mode under Settings > Power Options, and performed a full shutdown. Upon rebooting, I discovered my sliders were different from what I had set earlier. It seems that sleep mode prevents proper saving and reloading of settings, even after a reboot.

Important Reminder: If my sliders seem slow in any way, that's a clear sign you need to reboot your console and reenter the game. Go straight to Franchise mode afterward. Avoid entering the settings menu unless you're planning to save, exit the game, and do a full console reboot. This will ensure everything runs as intended. Just a heads-up!

Let me know how these play out for you and if there’s anything you think could be improved. These sliders are the result of a lot of time and effort, and I hope they give you the same enjoyment they’ve given me. Thanks for reading.

I have to be honest—I primarily play CPU vs. CPU. For that, I use True Broadcast with the authentic puck size and all meters and bars turned off, except for player names.

For user vs. CPU gameplay, the most realistic camera is generally Dynamic Medium. It provides a good balance between visibility and an authentic on-ice perspective, allowing you to see the action while staying immersed in the gameplay. If you’re looking for a more TV-style presentation, True Broadcast works well, but it can take some getting used to for manual control.

Re: Occam's NHL 24 and NHL 25 Sliders

Three Days, Countless Hours, and a Mission Accomplished

Greetings,

After an intense, non-stop three days of testing, tweaking, and perfecting, I am beyond excited to share my slider set with all of you. This project has been nothing short of a labor of love, driven by an obsession to create the most authentic NHL gameplay experience possible.

The Journey
The process began with a singular goal: make the game look, feel, and flow like a true NHL broadcast. This wasn’t just about sliders—it was about precision, passion, and paying homage to the beautiful game of hockey. Adjusting sliders is like solving a Rubik’s Cube; every change impacts another aspect, and balance is both critical and challenging to achieve.

One of the most important breakthroughs was using Connor McDavid to tune skating speed. I went into practice mode and timed McDavid’s goal-line-to-goal-line skate to match his real-life speed as closely as possible. The result? McDavid clocked in at 6.7 seconds for the 200-foot sprint with these settings, a testament to the precision of the tuning.

I didn’t stop there. Players like McDavid, Travis Konecny, and Clayton Keller posed a unique challenge: their speed and quickness are unmatched, and in many slider setups, they can look like uncontrolled whirlwinds on the ice. To fix this, I deliberately slowed the game speed to ensure their movements felt fast yet controlled. My logic was simple: if I could balance the game for the league’s speedsters, everything else would fall into place. And it worked beautifully.

Critical Save Instructions
When you input these sliders, it’s vital to **save the set and exit the game completely** before restarting your console and reentering the game. The game is known to have bugs that can skew slider values if not reset properly. Following this process ensures that the values you’ve set remain exactly as intended.

The Collaboration
Over these three days, I had the incredible assistance of ChatGPT, who became an indispensable part of the process. Together, we analyzed every slider—examining their effects on game speed, flow, player behavior, and overall immersion. We debated values, ran tests, and left no stone unturned in pursuit of authenticity. Whether it was finding the right balance for skating impact or tuning fatigue recovery to match 6-minute periods, this was a true team effort.

The Result
The end result is a slider set that captures the heart of the NHL. Players skate like they should, the puck moves with a natural rhythm, and the game speed feels just right. Shots, passes, penalties—everything flows like you’d expect from a real NHL game. Even the penalties, which can be tricky to balance, feel random and varied while still aligning with real-world averages.

When you step onto the ice with this set, you’ll notice the difference immediately. The gameplay is fluid, the stats are realistic, and, most importantly, the game feels alive.

Why This Matters
This project was about more than just sliders—it was about creating a shared experience for hockey fans everywhere. As NHL fans, we all want that feeling of stepping into the rink and playing the game we love. I believe this set delivers on that promise, and I hope it enhances your love for the game as much as it has mine.

What’s Next?
I’ll be sharing gameplay videos soon (I haven't slept yet as of this posting) but I'm massively exhausted and will post them later when rested, so you can see the results for yourself. If you have any questions or suggestions, I’m all ears.

A massive thank you for ChatGPT, my collaborator and hockey scientist extraordinaire.

This has been an incredible journey, and I’m proud to share the fruits of our labor with all of you.

Best regards,

Occam

These are mainly for cpu vs cpu. But I'd be interested to see how they play user vs cpu.

Re: Occam's NHL 24 and NHL 25 Sliders

The issue with Superstar is that it essentially makes all the players the same rating, especially when you put the AE at 10. The solution to this is to put the AE at 0 to balance it out. I did this last night and it played even better. On superstar and AE at 10 the CPU goalies are too good almost.
