Online franchise problem

For some reason, when I send a franchise game invite, the opposing player doesn't receive the message even though my screen is on the invite sent screen. Additionally, when he sends me an invite and I press join it says that the game session is no longer available even though he said he didn't cancel the invite. What's going on here?

We have foudn what works for us is to have one or both players power off their boxex and their modems/routers. Connect directly from the modem to the xbox for that particular game. It doesn't happen often, but is a pain nonethless
