Re: Madden 09: celebration videos (IGN)

I'm sure there will be other funny/inappropriate celebrations in the game. It's a matter of what gets focused on. Things get clowned by the fans, the devs change/remove them. At one point somebody at Tiburon thought it was cool to add the air raid sound on deep passes and it lasted a couple years. Same as someone thinking the QB animations were good enough/cool for the past four years. Or any other number of other issues.

Back in the day 989 gave gamers the ability to breakdance after sacks, and because of the direction the game went the game died shortly after.

NBA2K8's standing teleport dunk irritates many people to no end. I'm sure they'll remove it for NBA2K9, if there is a 2K9 (grrrrrr).

Doesn't seem like it's as much a mistake as someone thought it was cool to add it in the first place. It's not a personal attack; it's happened with many sports games.

And most here wouldn't claim to. We don't come here to learn about software. We come here because we like video game football.

Ian gave the impression they don't have enough designers to produce the level of work we're expecting. More chefs is exactly what they need. No more head or sous-chefs, but some assistants would probably help matters. And if their designers are not well versed in FOOTBALL, like Ian implied, they need someone to make sure they are.

I'm baffled that there are only 4-5 people designing the biggest sports game ever.

I guess I'm just trying to understand why you are so high on getting them in next year?
That was the best thing about NBA 2K8 IMO. I like that Madden celebrations are not cut scenes, and are seemless, except getting to the desired celebration spot. I'd suggest they put the celebrations on the buttons so player models are not running around looking for celebrations boxes.

I'd also suggest using as little cut scenes as possible, though I assume some elements of presentation will require them, especially if done like a tv broadcast.

Yes, budgets exist. Of course. Offsetting the cost of more chefs? You know, there is such a thing as growth.

Should EA ever hire more people to work on Madden? How many hours do these designers have to work for you to realize that more people may be needed? IMO, there should be someone overseeing accuracy. The uniform debacle of the last few years proved that.

GTA IV had a massive budget because of the projected revenue. The game cost a lot to produce, but it was worth it.

How much money has to be made to hire two more designers? How about four more?

Companies expand to meet needs. It's a healthy process, especially when profits justify it.

GTA also had 3 to 4 years in the making, much different than a 10 month cycle.

I never said the more designers aren't needed.

Based on the last few Maddens, there hasn't been much growth in sales numbers, in fact, I think 07 outsold 08.

It's up to the suits how much money needs to be made to hire a few more designers. From a personal standpoint, I'd love them to add more people to the mix, it just needs to make sense from a business standpoint on EA's end.

The flip side is true as well EA could put out crap and people would make excuses for them and defend them till the death. EA has the NFL license to themselves so they better be thick skinned enough to deal with their mistakes and eventually fix them.

It's great Ian and some other people that are working on the game are getting involved with the community but holding back on issues is not going to help them. I'm totally against personally attacking them but they don't need to have the butt kissed either. We should appreciate their involvement but not hold back when we clearly see mistakes or issues with the game.

This thread is about TD celebrations and there is work to be done to fix them.
