Cano lifts Mariners to 4th straight

Seattle - The Mariners pitching was once again dialed in, and Robinson Cano provided the only offense the Mariners needed as he crushed a two run home run in the 4th inning that held up as the Mariners closed the game out 2-1. James Paxton went six innings for the Mariners before Charlie Furbush and Fernando Rodney were able to shut out the Indians over the final three innings, with Rodney picking up save 23 in the process. The two teams continue their series tomorrow with the Indians sending Danny Salazar (6-4, 5.46 ERA) to the mound to face Felix Hernandez (8-7, 2.49 ERA).

Romero's big day powers Mariners to sweep

Seattle - Stefen Romero had a HR saving grab in the first inning, and his three run double in the 4th sparked the Mariner's bats, and powered them to an 8-5 victory to earn the sweep. Robinson Cano chipped in with a three hit day for the Mariners as well, and Kendrys Morales continued his hitting streak, driving in Cano with a Double in the 4th before Romero came up to do his damage. The win moved Seattle ahead of Boston in the wild card standings, and they will now get an off day tomorrow before welcoming in the Cleveland Indians for a three game weekend series starting Friday Night. It will be Justin Masterson (4-4, 3.99 ERA) facing James Paxton (3-3, 3.65 ERA) in the opener.

Mariners hold on to take another from Boston

Seattle - Chris Young turned in a career performance, putting in 8.1 with 9 K's, but couldn't get the final two outs, as Fernando Rodney came in to slam the door on another Mariner win. Young was cruising until the 9th when a David Ortiz base hit finally knocked him out of the ball game. Rodney then came on and walked Mike Napoli, and giving up a base hit to Daniel Nava that made it 2-1. Rodney was then able to get the final 2 outs from there to pickup save number 21 for himself this season. The victory put the Mariners level with Boston in the wild card hunt, both teams still chasing the Blue Jays and A's as of now. The Mariners are now 16-6 in the month of June after entering the month eight games below .500 and almost completely out of any playoff talk. Seattle goes for the sweep tomorrow when they send Taijuan Walker (5-7, 3.81 ERA) to the mound to face John Lackey (4-8, 5.14 ERA).

Cano walk-off lifts Mariners to win

Seattle - It was a pitchers duel on Monday night at Safeco, with the Mariners coming out on top thanks to the heroics of Robinson Cano. He lifted a 2-1 fastball into right field to end the game and give the Mariners a 2-1 victory. Clay Buchholz, and Hisashi Iwakuma were both outstanding for their teams each giving up just one run over the course of the game, but the Mariners bullpen proved to be the better of the two squads on this night. The two teams are back at it tonight with Jake Peavy (5-6, 4.25 ERA) set to face off against Chris Young (4-6, 3.61 ERA).

Mariners drop finale 6-2

Kansas City - The Royals were able to get to Felix Hernandez in this one, and the Mariners couldn't do anything with the opportunities they had as they dropped the rubber match of this weekend series. Alex Gordon busted it open for the Royals with a two run shot in the fourth inning, Felix would give up another as well still going seven innings in the losing effort. The Mariners will now return home to start a three game series with the Boston Red Sox. It will be Clay Buchholz (5-3, 3.76 ERA) taking the mound for Boston to face off with Hisashi Iwakuma (6-5, 3.18 ERA).

Mariners lose in extras to Royals 4-3

Kansas City - Lorenzo Cain had a solo home run, and drove in the winning run in the 13th inning as the Royals topped the Mariners Saturday afternoon. The Mariners couldn't get a hit in the four extra frames, as the Kansas City bullpen slammed the door on the Mariners. It looked like the Mariners were going to pull it out after taking the lead late on a James Jones sac fly, but that was the last offense they would see. The Royals were able to tie it in the bottom of the 8th, and then hold the Mariners at bay until they were finally able to push through. The two teams will deal their aces tomorrow in the rubber match as Felix Hernandez (8-6, 2.31 ERA) will take on James Shields (5-8, 2.91 ERA).

Mariner bats explode for blowout win

Kansas City - The Mariners matched their best offensive showing of the year. Scoring 13 runs while banging out 17 hits to coast to a victory in their series opener. Brad Miller, and Endy Chavez each had three hits, while Willie Bloomquist turned in a four hit day for the M's. John Buck delivered the crushing blow in the six run 5th inning with an opposite field three run homer that put it out of distance for the nose diving Royals. The Mariners will look to continue their winning streak tomorrow when they send James Paxton (3-3, 3.71 ERA) to the mound to take on Jeremy Guthrie (2-7, 5.96 ERA).

Mariners wake up late to steal one from Padres

San Diego - It took all game long for the Mariners offense to wake up, but they did just in time to get a victory in extra innings. Robinson Cano rocketed a double in the ninth to plate Stefen Romero, and Jesus Montero came into a pinch hit situation to drive home the winning run as the Mariners took a 2-1 victory. It looked like the Padres 1-0 lead would hold up for the whole game, but Seattle was able to knock around Huston Street for his 5th blown save of the year, and also get to Tim Stauffer next inning. The Mariners will now see how long they can float above .500 as they head off to Kansas City. They'll thow Taijuan Walker (4-7, 3.71 ERA) in the opener opposite Aaron Brooks (1-8, 6.35 ERA).

Mariners down Padres 5-2, get back to .500

San Diego - The Seattle Mariners used some timely hitting, and more great pitching to win their second straight on Wednesday night. Brad Miller was 3-4 including a three run homer that proved to be the difference. Robinson Cano added a couple of hits himself, while Hisashi Iwakuma dominated on the mound to get the Mariners the win. The Mariners will look to get above .500 tomorrow when they send Chris Young (4-6, 3.79 ERA) to the mound to face Josh Johnson (4-6, 4.95 ERA).

Felix shuts door on Padres to end skid for M's

Seattle - Felix Hernandez continued his hot ptiching, and the Padres had no answers on Tuesday, as the Mariners were able to take a 3-0 win. The lone offense came from a three run homer from John Buck in the second inning, as the Mariners didn't score after that, but the king allowed just two hits over seven strong innings before turning it over to the bullpen to finish this one off. The two teams now jet to San Diego to play the other two games of this four game split-series tomorrow. It'll be Hisashi Iwakuma (5-5, 3.32 ERA) on the hill for Seattle taking on Andrew Cashner (8-3, 2.17 ERA).

Seattle can't hang on as Padres comeback for victory

Seattle - It turned out that five outs was just too much to ask for Fernando Rodney. The closer blew his first save of the year after coming on in the 8th inning, then lost the game in the ninth as the Mariners dropped it 3-2. The Mariners had a chance in the 9th after Endy Chavez led off with a double, and was quickly moved to third by Robinson Cano. However Huston Street got Kendrys Morales to strike out, then with two outs a Seager grounder to first ended the threat, and the game. The Mariners will now look to snap out of their three game funk against Ian Kennedy (6-4, 3.44 ERA) tomorrow night, while they counter with Felix Hernadez (7-6, 2.48 ERA).

Mariners offense bottoms out in loss to Texas

Seattle - The Mariners managed just three hits, and the bullpen blew up late as the Rangers took the finale of their three game series. Taijuan Walker pitched well giving up just one earned run over six innings, but did not get any offensive support. A Robinson Cano home run in the 7th brought the score to 2-1 and it looked for a minute that the Mariners might be poised for another comeback victory, but Texas was having none of that in the next inning as bombs off of Dominic Leone by Adrian Beltre, and Alex Rios sent fans scurrying for the exits. The Mariners have now dropped back to back games after their eight game winning streak, and will look to get back on track tomorrow when they welcome the San Diego Padres into town for their annual interleague showdown. It will be Tyson Ross (5-3, 3.43 ERA) on the mound for San Diego going up against James Paxton (3-3, 3.86 ERA).

Mariners cant capitalize on Ranger miscues. Win streak ends at 8.

Seattle - For all the games the Mariners pulled out of their hats in this streak, it was the one that they should have won that ended up getting away from them. The Rangers committed three errors in the game, and Seattle twice squandered golden opportunities to score as The Rangers squeaked by 3-2. The Mariners had runners on 2nd, and 3rd with one out in the 5th and could not scratch across a run, and then again in the 6th they managed to get the bases loaded with no one out, and somehow failed to score both times. Allowing Texas to hang around long enough for Adrian Beltre to hit an 8th inning solo shot that proved to be the difference. The Mariners will try to get back to their recent winning ways tomorrow when they face Martin Perez (4-7, 5.63 ERA). Seattle will counter with Taijuan Walker (4-6, 3.89 ERA).
