Mariners shut out in finale at Yankee Stadium

Bronx - Michael Pineda gave the Mariners a taste of what they've been missing, as he turned in a dominant performance giving up only one hit before giving way to the bullpen to finish off the M's, as the Yankees were able to salvage the final game of this series at home. Hisashi Iwakuma was the hard luck loser, as he only gave up one run in what was a mighty fine performance in it's own right, but the Yankees only needed that one run, although A-Rod would tack on a home run for good measure late in the game to seal it. The Mariners will now get a day off and hit the road for Cleveland to take on the Indians who are off to a scorching 11-1 start this season. It'll be Wade Miley (1-1, 5.25 ERA) taking the hill against Cody Anderson (2-0, 4.91 ERA).

Seager, Hernandez push M's to another win

Bronx - The Mariners rode seven strong innings from their ace, and Kyle Seager's bat continues to heat up as he clubbed two home runs to give the Mariners a 7-3 win on Saturday. The Yankees made it close in the seventh after a couple misplayed grounders that should've been double plays extended the inning. Brian McCann laced a single that cut it to 6-3, but Chris Iannetta came right back in the top of the eighth, and hit a solo shot that would result in the final score. Seager ended up with two other hits going 4-5 on the day, and pushing his average back into respectability after a slow start the first two weeks. The Mariners will be going for the series sweep tomorrow sending Hisashi Iwakuma (1-1, 3.75 ERA) to the mound to face former Mariner Michael Pineda (1-1, 7.71 ERA).

Mariners power past Yankees in series opener

Bronx - The Seattle Mariners opened their road trip with a win Friday night, as they took advantage of the hitter friendly confines of Yankee stadium to hit two short home runs to right and left field, that carried them to a 6-3 win. The Mariners were also able to take advantage of seven walks to make sure there were runners on base for their jacks. The Yankees, also hit two homers but they were only solo shots that did little damage. The big blow came in the eighth after the Mariners had nursed a 3-2 lead most of the night, Cano singled, and Seager took his third walk of the night to bring up Franklin Gutierrez, who cranked a three run jack that gave the M's the distance they needed. The two teams come back here tomorrow afternoon, but morning time in Seattle as the first pitch will be at 10:05am PST. It will be Felix Hernandez (1-1, 4.73 ERA) going up against Yankee ace Masahiro Tanaka (0-1 3.97 ERA).

M's bats go quiet, as they drop series to Rangers

Seattle - One day after they clubbed six home runs, the Mariners could only muster one single run as the fell to the Rangers 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Mariners only managed one extra base hit the entire game, which came from Steve Clevenger after he came in for an injured Dae-Ho Lee. Lee pulled a back muscle and is day to day for the Mariners, but should avoid a DL stint. The Mariners hit the road for Yankee Stadium Friday night where they will send Nate Karns (1-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound to face C.C. Sabathia (1-0, 0.00 ERA).

Mariners Home Run barrage lifts them to victory

Seattle - The Mariner bats were in Home Run derby mode, clubbing six over the fences, and leading the M's to a come from behind victory Tuesday night. The game started out auspiciously for the M's as Texas jumped out to a 4-1 lead off the play of Delino DeShields Jr, who was a menace all game collecting three hits, one being a two run home run, and stealing bases. However it wasn't enough to put away the M's who had six different players hit their six homers as the top five in the lineup all ended up going deep, as well as Adam Lind. It gave the win to Wade Miley, who after coughing up the 4-1 lead early settled down and managed to make it through six innings striking out nine. The two teams will play the rubber match tomorrow afternoon before the Mariners head east for a nine game road trip. It'll be Martin Perez (0-0, 4.05 ERA) taking the hill for the Rangers against Taijuan Walker (0-0, 0.00 ERA), who missed his last start due to a pulled tricep.

Mariners fall to Rangers in series opener 7-3

Seattle - The Seattle Mariners fell in an early hole, and couldn't climb out as the Rangers tagged Mariner pitching for four runs in the first inning en-route to a 7-3 victory. Delino DeShields led the way for Texas with 2 hits and an RBI as Hisashi Iwakuma struggled to find the strike zone early. The lone bright spot for the Mariners on the day came from Franklin Gutierrez, who broke out of his slump with a double, and two run home run in the 2nd inning. The two teams will be back at it tomorrow night as the Rangers will send Chi Chi Gonzalez (0-1, 9.00 ERA) to the mound to face Wade Miley (0-1, 4.50 ERA).

Mariners drop finale 5-1

Seattle - The Mariners succumbed to a dominant performance by Henderson Alvarez, and were unable to get the sweep as they fell to the A's 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. Felix Hernandez had a good enough outing only giving up three runs through seven innings, but got no support from the bats as the Mariners could only manage one unearned run on the day. The Mariners will now welcome the Texas Rangers to town tomorrow night, who will send Derek Holland (1-0, 1.29 ERA) to the mound to face Hisashi Iwakuma (1-0, 0.00 ERA).

Mariner bats back up Karns strong start in 9-2 win

Seattle - The Mariners got their bats back working again, clubbing eleven hits and three home runs in a victory on Saturday night. They got it going right from the first inning as Ketel Marte, who went 4-4 on the night clubbed a double. Then Kyle Seager followed up a Nelson Cruz walk with a blast high off the foul pole in right to give the M's a 3-0 lead. They never looked back, as Nate Karns was dominant in his Mariner debut almost going the distance before a Robinson Cano error extended the ninth inning long enough for the A's to get on the board, and finally get Karns out of the game. Rookie Tony Zych came on to get the final out for the Mariners, who will send Felix Hernandez (1-0, 5.68 ERA) to the mound looking for the sweep tomorrow afternoon against Henderson Alvarez (0-0, 1.13 ERA).

Mariners bullpen comes to the rescue in home opener

Seattle - A pregame injury to scheduled starter Taijuan Walker pressed the bullpen into action to try and hold down the fort for the Mariners home opener. They did way more than that as five mariner pitchers combined to give up only three hits and shut out the Oakland Athletics in the M's 2016 debut at Safeco Field. Vidal Nuno got the call to start and went six innings only giving up two hits and a walk to A's hitters. The Mariners were able to get out of a couple jams late as an error by Leonys Martin in the outfield put a runner on third with only one out in the seventh, and the A's got a lead off double in the eighth. Mariner relievers worked through those jams, to hand it to Steve Cishek in the ninth, who cooly struck out the side to close it out. The Mariners lone run came in the fifth on a solo home run by Franklin Gutierrez. His first hit of the season spoiled what was otherwise an outstanding performance for A's starter Kendall Graveman in a loss. The two teams come back to do it again tomorrow night as Nate Karns (7-5, 3.67 ERA in 2015) will take the hill for the M's against A's ace Sonny Gray (0-1, 4.50 ERA).

Mariners drop finale to Rangers 3-1

Arlington - The Mariners' bats were finally cooled off on Wednesday afternoon as they could only muster one run off of starter Derek Holland who pitched seven strong for the Rangers. Wade Miley, making his Mariner debut, pitched well opposite of Holland, but couldn't get an out in the seventh before finally making the one bad pitch that would seal his fate. Ian Desmond deposited it into the outfield seats to give the Rangers all the cushion they would need. The M's would threaten in the eighth inning, but could only push across one run after getting the bases loaded with no one out. The Mariners will now head home and, after an off day tomorrow, will host the Oakland A's for their home opener. It will be Kendall Graveman (6-9, 4.05 ERA in 2015) taking the hill for Oakland against Taijuan Walker (11-8, 4.56 ERA in 2015).

Mariners shut out Rangers 6-0

Arlington - Hisashi Iwakuma threw seven scoreless innings, and Tony Zych made his MLB debut closing out the final two for the save as the Mariners blanked Texas 6-0 in the second game of the season. Robinson Cano again provided the bulk of the offense with two RBI including another mammoth home run. This time into the upper deck in right field of Globe Life Park. After catcher Chris Iannetta had to leave with a foot injury sliding into second, backup catcher Steve Clevenger laced a two run double down the right field line in the ninth inning to give the Mariners the insurance to let the rookie Zych go back out for the ninth inning. The Mariners will look for the sweep tomorrow afternoon when they send Wade Miley (11-11, 4.46 ERA in 2015) to the mound to face Derek Holland (4-3, 4.91 ERA in 2015).

Seattle bats power them to win in opener

Arlington - The Seattle Mariners opened the season with a home run barrage as all 6 of their runs in the opener came via the long ball. The M's peppered the short right field porch at Globe Life Park with three homers by Kyle Seager, Ketel Marte, and newcomer Adam Lind. Then after the Rangers tried to crawl back with a HR of their own, Robinson Cano launched a mammoth 453 foot shot to center that widened the gap. Felix Hernandez was solid thru 6.1 innings before giving up a three run homer to Robinson Chirinos. He exited the game after that, and the bullpen was able to shut the Rangers down the rest of the way. The two teams will be right back here tomorrow night as Hisashi Iwakuma (9-5, 3.54 ERA in 2015) will face off against Cole Hamels (13-8, 3.65 ERA in 2015).
