Mariners hold on to take opener in Los Angeles
Los Angeles - The Mariners used a three run third inning to create some distance, and the bullpen was able to slam the door after a quality start by James Paxton, resulting in a 4-3 victory for the M's. The Mariners big inning started after James Paxton laid down a perfect bunt following a Brad Miller walk to lead off the inning. Mark Turner couldn't field the ball cleanly with his bare hand and it resulted in a single. Dustin Ackley then loaded the bases for Robinson Cano who ripped a single up the middle to plate two runs. Nelson Cruz immediately followed that with another single before Zack Grienke was able to get out of it. After that it was Paxton's effort, and the bullpen's shutdown of the Dodger bats afterwards that preserved the victory for Seattle. The two teams will be back here tomorrow night as Hisashi Iwakuma will square off against Brandon McCarthy for the Dodgers.

Hernandez goes the distance, as Mariners take series from Oakland
Oakland - Felix Hernandez was in his groove, as a late ninth inning RBI single was the only thing standing between him and his first shutout of the season, as he hurled eleven strikeouts in a 5-1 victory for Seattle. Robinson Cano chipped in on the offensive side as he clubbed two solo home runs for his first multi-HR game in a Mariner uniform. That was all the offense Felix needed as he was dominant as always. The Mariners will now head down the coastline from the bay area to Los Angeles where they will take on the Dodgers for a three game interleague tilt. It will be James Paxton going in the opener against Zack Greinke for the Dodgers.

A's rally to walk-off Mariners
Oakland - The Seattle Mariners could only muster two runs from their ten hits on Saturday, as the Oakland bullpen was able to stifle the Mariners after their ace Sonny Gray left early with a hand bruise. Still that advantage wasn't enough for the M's as Oakland crawled back against a Mariners pen that was already taxed from yesterday's thirteen inning affair. Eventually rookie Tyler Olson had to come in to pitch the ninth, and Oakland immediately took advatage with a lead-off triple from Eric Sogard, followed up by a Sac Fly to send the Mariners home with an L. The two teams will be back at it again tomorrow afternoon as the King Felix Hernandez will square off against Scott Kazmir for Oakland.

Mariners blow early six run lead, but fight back to top A's in extras
Oakland - It had all the makings for an easy night for the Mariners early on. The team erupted for a six run second inning, but Taijuan Walker struggled to make the lead hold up, and finally in the eighth inning the Athletics were able to crawl all of the way back thanks to a game tying single by Ben Zobrist. It then went to extras as the Mariners had to ask young Carson Smith to go as long as he could as they had used every other arm in the pen besides their closer. Smith pitched three solid innings and gave the M's a chance to finally take the lead in the 13th. When Robinson Cano hit a go-ahead single. Rodney was able to come in and slam the door picking up his third save early in the season. The Mariners will now be asking tomorrow's starter J.A. Happ to eat up a lot of innings as he goes up against Oakland ace Sonny Gray in tomorrow's tilt.

Mariners drop finale to Angels
Seattle - The Seattle Mariners suffered their first loss on the young season on Wednesday, as the Angels bats heated up to carry them to an 8-4 victory over the Mariners at Safeco Field. The Angels were able to get to Hisashi Iwakuma with some timely basehits, and a key homerun by Kole Calhoun. Seattle made it interesting in the ninth by loading the bases with nobody out, before Huston Steet came in to close the door on any potential Mariners rally. The Mariners now have a day off before traveling to Oakland to face the A's. Taijuan Walker will take the ball in the opener for Seattle.

Mariner bats catapult them to victory 7-4
Seattle - The Mariners continued their solid season start on Tuesday night with a victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Kyle Seager was the man of the night going 2 for 4 including a mammoth three run home run that busted the game wide open for the Mariners in the 5th. Seager ended the night with 5 RBI. James Paxton made his 2015 debut with the Mariners pitching seven innings while giving up 3 runs. The Angels made it interesting enough in the ninth that Lloyd McLendon decided to bring in his closer Fernando Rodney to get his second straight save to start the season, but the Angels could not end up with the key hit they needed to bring them back in this one. The series concludes tomorrow evening as Hisashi Iwakuma will face off against Matt Shoemaker at Safeco Field.

Seattle - The Mariners new cleanup paid some dividends, and Felix Hernandez managed to make it through a rough start to pick up the victory in a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Hernandez struggled early giving up 2 early runs while throwing 50 pitches through just two innings. He was able to keep it close enough however for the Mariner bats to get going. Nelson Cruz hit a HR in his first game as a Mariner to cut the lead to 2-1 before Austin Jackson came up with the key hit of the game, a 2 RBI single that gave the M's a lead they would not give up. Robinson Cano added a solo shot for insurance as Fernando Rodney came in to get his first save of 2015. The two teams will be back at it tomorrow as C.J. Wilson takes the mound for the Angels to face James Paxton for the Mariners.

Mariners look to live up to the hype in 2015
For the first time in a long time, the Seattle Mariners enter a season with sky high expectations. Coming off of an impressive 87-75 campaign a year ago that found them just one game out of the teams first playoff spot in over a decade, the Mariners now look to build on their strong pitching with the addition of the MLB home run champ Nelson Cruz to bolster their offense. The Mariners have been picked by more than a few to not only win the AL West, but do damage beyond that as well.
Key Additions:
DH/OF Nelson Cruz - Cruz came off of a PED suspension in 2013 to lead the league in HR's in 2014 while seemingly having put his PED woes behind him. Cruz gives the Mariners an added RH presence in the meat of the order to be sandwiched between all-stars Robinson Cano, and Kyle Seager, and for the first time since the Griffey, Edgar, Buhner days, the Mariners have a big time 3-4-5 presence in their lineup.
SP J.A. Happ - Happ came over in a trade that will get more detailed in a moment. A solid starter thoughout his career, the Mariners believe his skill set will transfer well to pitching in a ballpark like Safeco Field.
Key Losses:
1B Justin Smoak - Smoak got every chance possible with the Mariners, and while his glove was solid, he offensively never lived up to the hype that made him the key piece in the Cliff Lee trade from years past. Smoak has now moved on to Toronto clearing the way For Logan Morrison to become the M's everyday man at first.'
OF Michael Saunders - Saunders was the man traded for J.A. Happ. A solid contributor when he was in the lineup, unfortunately for Seattle that was not all that often as Saunders could never seem to stay consistently healthy in his time with the Mariners. He will be replaced with a platoon of Seth Smith, and Justin Ruggiano.
Prediciton:
The Mariners have enough fire power to make all kinds of noise in a wide open American League. The Starting pitching is as good as it gets in baseball, and if the bullpen can even come close to duplicating it's 2014 performance runs will be tough to come by against the M's. Couple that with an offensive boost in the middle of their everyday lineup, and the Mariners should be expected to compete for, if not be the favorites for the American League pennant this season.
