NCAA Football 10 News Post

EA has posted another NCAA Football 10 blog covering the strategy of Season Showdown. There is also a new video clip, right here.

Quote:
"It used to be that you could sit back, call the same play over and over again, and just "out athlete" your opponent. It used to be that you could hop around the playbook jumping from I Form, to Ace, to Shotgun without a care in the world for creating an offensive identity. And it used to be that you could know exactly what your opponent was going to know, know exactly how you would stop it, but didn't have a way to tell your players that that without a doubt the next play is going to be a run to the right, go shut it down.

Thankfully those days are behind us. With NCAA Football 10 strategy takes on a huge role with three new gameplay features that put the emphasis on out thinking your opponent instead of just out maneuvering him on the sticks. By gameplanning, setting up plays, and keying in on what you think the offense will be running you can affect the outcome of the game just based on your coaching decisions."

Hard to really get a feel for anything gameplay related there. Seemed like they were playing on a pretty low difficulty setting. It is worth noting, however, that there isn't anything shown in the video that looks all that different, from a gameplay perspective, from last year. Don't see a huge difference in terms of the pocket, in terms of the run blocking AI/assignments, and I didn't see any plays in the playbooks that weren't already in '09. One thing that I do notice is that some of these run block animations appear to be new, and in line with the run block improvements that Ian Blogged about on Monday. Particularly in the Cal-Maryland clips, you can definitely see Olinemen trying to steer DL out of a certain gap. I notice a new switch called "chew clock" at the main playcall screen (where you select gameplan and can choose to ask Corso). Wonder what that's about.

The problem with run commit as they have it on this game is that it's just really limited in terms of effectiveness. A lot of online players who do the kind of stuff that it's designed to stop (running speed options with a non-QB player in at QB) will do it to either side, so it would be too much of a gamble to try and commit. They really need to re-work the way that the run commit portion works. In reality, it should probably just be run commit and pass commit, rather than having run left, mid, and right. Really, all that I want run commit to do is make it so that my LBs and Safeties play the run aggressively (i.e. creep up, and attack the run gaps on any run action).

In terms of the way that I see it playing out, I think that most people will end up really only using the pass commit option, because it's too much of a gamble to try and guess run direction.

Does EA really need 3 videos to cover SS?

You posted the score to a game that happened two years ago, in case you didn't notice.

How in the h**l do you make Dez Bryant (#1 for Oklahoma State) WHITE?!?!?!

http://www.okstate.com/sports/m-foot...ant_dez00.html

I could understand maybe getting the race wrong on a player on a small team, but we are talking about one of the best WR in the game. There is only one #1 on Oklahoma State's offense and it's him. To me, that is unbelievable.

One last thing, those two don't look like they have played a lick of football lol. At least Ian has some potential that he could have
Well, if it bothers you that much, then just change it when you get the game!

It will be set up for the remainder of the game according to the video.

Jersey that blog and video are actually way more game play oriented than ss. ss is just sort of the backdrop to the whole thing.

I know theres some gameplay video but its becoming a joke now how much they are shoving Season Showdown down our throats.

I'd rather have a blog about windsocks than listen to more Season Showdown talk.
So you want your games devoid of strategy? Did you watch the video? I could care a less about season showdown, but I liked the video a lot.

I wish they would add a praying celebration to the windsocks when you score a TD! that would be awesome!(obviously I'm joking)

I did notice. But as they say, history is the best teacher. On September 5th 2009, we are going to see history repeat itself. Should be a good game! I'm pumped.

Yep, I can't wait. I'm looking forward to a fun year. Good luck. If you manage to come out for the game I hope you enjoy your trip.

Thanks! I so wish I could come out to the game. I have never been to Oklahoma and the midwest intrigues me. However with my daughter on the way, my long anticipated trip out west will have to wait another day. I'm actually really worried about the Oklahoma State game. A rebuilding UGA team without its explosive offensive duo from yesteryear going on the road against a top ten team for its opener. September could spell trouble for the Dawgs early on:

September 5th- AT Oklahoma State
September 12th- South Carolina
September 19th- AT Arkansas
September 26th Arizona State

a couple people in the thread have said it's not, but i'd still like to see further confirmation on that as well

Obviously, my favorite part of the video was getting to see some footage of my team (by the way, Dez is too light, but I can fix that in roughly 10 seconds). However, something else I saw that makes me happy and gives me hope happened on that stretch run play by Michigan State. The defender gets pretty close to the TE but doesn't get sucked up by him. Now, he's out in front and has an angle, so this is by no means confirmation that suction blocking is fixed, but it's at least encouraging. I feel like the defender would have been blocked in 09.

Congratulations on your daughter! And I offer my deepest condolences as well. That is a rough 4 game stretch. I too am worried about the game. We seem to have more continuity and depth on the defensive side of the ball than we've had in a while. And we made what most people believe to be a solid hire at Defensive Coordinator (OSU alum Bill Young). With all that said our defense has been horrible at best in recent years. Most Cowboy fans would be ecstatic if we had a top-50 defense this year. That's really saying something.

No matter who wins it should be a close game. You guys probably have enough talent on defense to stay in any game, and it's gonna be hard to pull away from our offense. It should be a great game to watch.

If its there anyway then they better have an option to turn it off because i dont want to use it. I dont want to have to tell my team to be aggressive then have them getting burned for being too aggressive.
i just read over at utopia from the guys who played it at cd. the strategy elements are core to the game so you don't need to be signed up for ss to use them.

EDIT: NVM coogrfan beat me to it. very good news there
