Ian Cummings just posted the details for Madden NFL 11 title update #5.

*UPDATE: The patch is still hit or miss ATM. It's up to MS and Sony on when they will push it. Will start a new topic when the patch is readily available for everyone.

Hello Madden fans, we are happy to announce the release of our fifth (and likely final) title update for Madden NFL 11, just in time for the holidays. The fixes listed below represent a culmination of all the feedback received from you, the fans, in our loyal community. We'd like to thank you for the continued support and strong attention to detail, as well as, your willingness to contribute in always trying to make Madden NFL a better game. This title update focuses on primarily fixing online exploits and fine-tuning the balance of gameplay by making numerous improvements to defensive AI.

The fixes are as follows:

• Fixed an exploit to disallow defenders from all blitzing when the quarterback tried to pump fake when facing the wrong direction. This was discovered in NCAA Football 11 and fixed in both titles.
• Fixed an exploit where unscrupulous players could get their fullback or tight end to move across the line of scrimmage and cause an encroachment penalty against an unsuspecting defensive player.
• Fixed an exploit where online gamers could use specific timing in pulling the network plug and cause a soft lock for both users, thus not having to face a loss. We've isolated and fixed the problem, so now if someone pulls their plug, they rightfully get a loss.
• Improved reaction times for defenders in coverage to better react to receivers
• Improved logic to get defenders in better position to make plays on the ball while in the air
• Improved defensive play recognition to get defenders reacting to the play faster
• Tuned up defensive pursuit to get defenders to take smarter angles to the ball carrier
• Tuned up defensive gap aggressiveness to get defenders into the hole faster
• Fixed an issue where the play art on defense would sometimes not show up correctly when showing blitz. We have corrected this problem in thirteen formations so now all proper play art will be displayed when showing blitz to the offense.

I know dirty unis isn't on the top of everyone lists for being fixed but the point is that it is broken and for the past 4 patches it has been broken so this minor detail should of been fixed a while ago! I know EA has noticed many posts about this bug in a thread specifically created for it or even in the posts of all the patches mentioning that it has not been fixed. I am happy they are releasing another patch but seriously it's kinda sad that they have gone through 5 patches and it has not been addressed.

That is true indeed.

But its also the small details that are left out that keeps this game so far behind the other great titles.

All i'm saying that this is an easy fix and should of been fixed by now. Last year it was fixed in the first patch i believe.

you know what, I actually had Ngata in my head, and I thought I had seen him pull that off, but I couldn't remember the specific play. Man, that was a beast play, and one that only a cat with 93+ block shed should make! Woo!

*now watch just as I make an issue of it, I see 4 or 5 average linemen do the warp/rip/swim move all day today*

At any rate, I took in a Falcons game a few weeks ago. With Raji, Pickett, and Jenkins, three fine linemen on that Packers defense, I did not see once were they shredded the Falcon line. There were plenty of times they beat the Falcons on a running play, but it was pursuit and run fits that did it.

Here's a pic I took and how I think run blocking and defensive pursuit should like on a regular basis between evenly matched teams:

Looking forward to seeing how this does.

Yet again I may have to tweak the sliders LOL. No biggie, it should not be too much that needs tweaking if it indeed makes the passing game tougher and the pass Rush better.

It ain't rocket science.

I had given Madden a rest after playing since release. I have not touched it in 3 weeks. So need to get back to my year one chise after I download this. I have been obsessed with NBA 2K11 and for good reason.

Well I downloaded the patch last week - I have no doubt that the patch has loaded as my sliders - which were prefect - have been torn to shreds by the patch.

Luckily for patch analysis I track and record every play of my 16 game season so I can quantify the result.

I have played 2 games of Season 7 of my franchise under the patch so far.

Last season my running game was averaging 4.5 yards per carry. After two games under the patch it is down to 2.9!

My run defense last season was 3.4 yards per carry - so far this season it is 2.9 per carry.

Looking like big improvements on the run defense - I will need to adjust blocking and reaction sliders for both Hum & CPU.

But what I can't understand is why pass defence appears to have fallen apart. I see nothing in the patch notes that would indicate this. Yet my pass defence has gone from 4.5 per attempt (league leading last season) to 9.7! And my defence actually got better (well was supposed to) in the off season with the progress of my 2 1st round CB's (Tynes and Knowlton).

Meanwhile just to prove the point my passing offence has gone from a medicore 5.9 yards per attempt to 7.5 despite the addition of only one 78 OVR WR.

Anyone else seeing the same thing? Run defense has been boosted but pass defence has fallen into a hole? I tend to play man to man defence, so not sure if zone is now better.

I've got a major headache now changing all the sliders...

First off I wanna say thanks EA for all the things you have fixed so far, but I really don't see how the run blocking hasn't been fixed by now. This is the main reason I don't play this game anymore. I like to play on My Skill level because the game is too easy otherwise. At this level my run skill is ALWAYS at 20 and NEVER goes down, even when I have like 20 attempts for negative yards for the game. The only thing I can do is custom difficulty and put the running on Pro, but the problem with that is the game no longer adjusts the rest of the difficulties. I really want to play this game, but it's very hard to enjoy when it's either too easy or the running game is impossible to do anything with no matter if I throw 10 times in a row or run 10 times in a row or adjust the blocking left/right/pinch/aggressive. Also, it doesn't even matter what RB I use, I have the same results with AP and Chris Johnson as well.

BHunt7 I had the exact same issues, but if you use the custom slider set you can set everything as high as you want except drop running to the number that's good for you. Right now I have it at 11 and I'm hitting anywhere between 3.5 to 4.5 ypc which is right where I want to be

Ok this makes me happy. They gave some attention to the defense. Now if done correctly it should come down to play calling.

Just giving attention to the defense to placate some portion of gamers who were averaging 50 points per game doesn't mean the defense actually plays a more realistic game of football.

I'm still waiting for someone to confirm what impact the changes to play recognition and reaction time have on CPU AI defenders.

if you play ncaa, u kno exactly what to expect from the ai after this patch, this is going to be a great patch for user v user games, user v ai is gonna be a real pain, but, i hope/pray that im wrong

Can anyone with the patch confirm if draws, counters, and play actions work like they're supposed to or do all of those plays get blown up because of the increased reaction times?

if you are an offline non chise gamer edit PRC immediately..... its the number reason the pocket never forms correctly, ......

with a 99 which ea loves to hand out at will.... guys never fight off blocks they IMMEDIATELY win and do the break block animation to slip by the OL

this is why the game cant simulate proper adaptive AI, that animation should kick in after maybe 2 quarters so during the game you see the cpu recognising your scheme.....

but to satisify the rating junkies who will moan if ray lewis has a 40 PRC ea gives him 99 so ray knows everyplay off the snap on all pro and knows it before you leave the huddle on allmadden........ahhhhh

this is done on offense as well, if you pinpoint what ea uses as difficulty multipliers and neuter it the game does not need these "patches" that help some and kill others...........

i am very interested in the DB fix, if they can get the DB's to turn and plant slower instead of the gimmick immediate turn fill speed *&^ the WR/DB matchups should seem more real.......

Has this gone up for all PS3 users yet, I logged on yesterday and there was nothing updated for me that I saw, or do you have to go somewhere to download it
