NBA 2K13 News Post

2K Sports has just released the written breakdown of all 31 NBA 2K13 Signature Skills.

Quote:
Q: Why create these Signature Skills for 2K13 when you already have several attributes in 2K12?

A: We felt that our existing attribute and tendency system quite didn’t lend itself well enough to various situational moments that happen in basketball, nor did it help identify very specialized players. Outlet passes, winning charge calls, staying hot through in-game breaks, etc, are just a few areas where our attributes system failed to give you what you need. We’re now able to dig deeper into these situations to allow players stand out where they’re most known. Let’s take shot blocking for example. LeBron James is well-known as the best chase down blocker in the league. In 2K12, when you were in a chase down situation, LeBron was unable to block the shot from behind as much as we’d like him to because he had only a 60-ish Block attribute. With the inclusion of the new Sig Skill, Chase Down Artist, we’re now able to give him the types of skills he needs to embarrass the unsuspecting shooter, without having to artificially raise his Block attribute (which would then allow him to block shots in areas he’s not known for). There are reasons like this for every skill created, which is why we’re bringing this feature to you for NBA 2K13.

Here is a list of all 31 signature skills.

I think the logic behind the 5 limit was this. 2 offensive sigs+ 2 defensive sigs+ 1 team related sig= 5 sigs. So a guy like Lebron can have 2 offensive sigs like (Finisher and dimer) and 2 defensive sigs (Lockdown defender and chase down artist) and 1 team related sig floor general.

That's my logic.

Wouldn't they have to change the overall rating formula then?

This is a phenomenal addition to the series. I really don't see how anyone could argue otherwise. Will it be implemented perfectly right out the box? Probably not. Will some skills prove to be too effective and some not effective enough? Most definitely. But give them a break, it's the first year being implemented into the game...

Now Online...THAT does not get a pass...get it together.

The 2011 to 2012 argument holds no water compared to the 2010-2011 argument. 99% of my argument has been about the change from 2010 to 2011: a dramatic change rather than no significant change. I said (one time) Chandler's impact had carried over from 2011 to 2012, and you refuse to believe that that could possibly ever be true. I haven't even touched on the 2011 to 2012 stats in about 5 posts. It's like you're clinging to it for dear life.

I think I'll chalk up the rest of your posts to sheer trolling. Clearly, by way of likes, people seem to agree you've already been delivered a hefty smackdown.
Ive been saying this dude is a troll for a while now finally somebody agrees

D-Rose's free throw shooting in the 4th is probably his biggest weakest, and always has been.

Then again, the "2K Insider" has always had a love affair with Derrick Rose, so I'm not surprised by the questionable Sig Skill choices for him.
As a Bull's fan, all I can say is that people like to remember the 2-3 times he's missed late free throws, but don't hear or know about the 4-5 games he's clinched for us with free throws. There's no player, other than Deng, I want on the line at the end of a game than DRose. I'll just say that.

2Ksports.....

it would seem.....

So now I think lebron will have closer, chasedown, finisher, lockdown defender, and floor general as his 5.
I think he needs "microwave".. Since his shooting attributes wont be as high as some of the other prolific scorers he needs a way to get hot.. We all know what can happen when LeBron gets hot!

Break Starter
Example Players: Tim Duncan, Kevin Love, Lamar Odom
This player is known for initiating fast breaks with accurate outlet passes. For this skill to fire off, the player must be the defensive rebounder and the pass must be made within 3 seconds of the defensive rebound. The longer the outlet pass is in the game, the higher risk there is for throwing a bad pass. If the rebounder fulfills the two rules mentioned, the pass will have 50% less penalty than normal.

this is just too good to be true....

Interesting, adds some extra stuff to the game plan. Like Rivers and Eric Gordon's move they said

I really don't know.. I know 5 is the limit what I'm hoping for is the ability to add a 6th or 7th through hex/reditor.. Mainly for players like LeBron and MJ who were so good in so many areas

Really excited about pickpocket vs. CPU. So many times they just stand there dribbling right in front of you, or you swipe at a crossover with what would be perfect timing IRL but on Sim sliders a reach-in foul is 10x more likely than a steal. Hopefully the CPU ballhandler will protect the ball better as well, but there were way too many missed situations in 2k12 where it should at least have been knocked loose and the CPU forced to recover.

Also, Nic Batum would have been a better example than Brandon Rush for the chasedown block skill

are you thinking of the kind of block, where, the word that describes the block itself rhymes with the word block?
Then, perhaps, if one was a stiffler for authenticity, one would say punch instead of block?

mmm quite

The first thing that struck me with the "mathematical stuff" was that I was reminded of the NBA Live 06 "Superstar Controls" or whatever they were called.

I hope that playing good defense plays a huge role in impacting the percentages.

I'm not sure about that dimedropper thing. Getting a pass from a good PG doesn't raise the percentages because who the passer is. Rather, good PGs get the ball to the player in situations where they can be most efficient -- and the best PGs find ways to do this even in weird situations.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DiQsCI25AI

For example, in that video, if Ray Allen receives the ball in the corner while open, it doesn't matter who makes the pass. The end result is the same -- he's open in the corner, and he'll probably make the shot.

What separates Rondo from other PGs is that he could actually MAKE that pass, given his position under the basket. If ever, the "Dimes" sig skill should affect pass success more than shot success.

Conversely, if Nash dropped a dime to me in my favorite hot spot but i had to catch the ball behind my ankles that would for sure affect my %age, no? (assuming im a spot-up shooter)

Yup. Where Nash excels is the fact that he's less likely to throw a bad pass in the sense that the spot up shooter would have to make a difficult catch, like the one you describe.

And if you're fortunate enough to play like minded sim players in leagues or OAs, the ensuing chess match and team building will be epic to say the least.

If anything the addition of these sig skills will force people to adapt to the strengths of their players and teams or risk being blown out by a dedicated user who has mastered their teams inside out; yes that includes a dedicated bobcats user!.
agreed. gonna be a little easier to run the heat and lakers with my kings this year. lovin this news. I am a little worried about the steal signature skill, it gets real annoying when other users spam the steal button. hope this is implemented well

LeBron can have around 27 of those skills, will he actually get them?
