NBA 2K13 News Post

2K Sports has just released the written breakdown of all 31 NBA 2K13 Signature Skills.

Quote:
Q: Why create these Signature Skills for 2K13 when you already have several attributes in 2K12?

A: We felt that our existing attribute and tendency system quite didn’t lend itself well enough to various situational moments that happen in basketball, nor did it help identify very specialized players. Outlet passes, winning charge calls, staying hot through in-game breaks, etc, are just a few areas where our attributes system failed to give you what you need. We’re now able to dig deeper into these situations to allow players stand out where they’re most known. Let’s take shot blocking for example. LeBron James is well-known as the best chase down blocker in the league. In 2K12, when you were in a chase down situation, LeBron was unable to block the shot from behind as much as we’d like him to because he had only a 60-ish Block attribute. With the inclusion of the new Sig Skill, Chase Down Artist, we’re now able to give him the types of skills he needs to embarrass the unsuspecting shooter, without having to artificially raise his Block attribute (which would then allow him to block shots in areas he’s not known for). There are reasons like this for every skill created, which is why we’re bringing this feature to you for NBA 2K13.

Here is a list of all 31 signature skills.

I'm talking specifically about Sig Skill exploits, not exploits in general.

People will find exploits in everything. I still believe the sig skills will give the sim heads a competitive advantage. Because we know basketball and we know how to use our sig skills. I'm not going to say a cheeser can't win from time to time, because honestly there are games when your jumpshots just aren't falling and they get a lot of fouls. But that's sports the bobcats can get a win every now and then, even though the opposing team is better.

I wish there were some 'negative' skills as well. Like "Lazy on D", "Bad Shot Selection" etc.. Maybe next year...?

I don't know. If they rate a player 60, isn't it disrespectful too? Because we all know, all NBA players are 90+.

But really, you may be right, but it's really too bad if that's what's going on. And 2K can use a little less harsh names for this sig skills.

Agreed.

I wish players would be inconsistent as well, not every player is focused 24/7. I remember the clippers playing the knicks at 12:00 and most of them looked bored as hell even being there. The game wasn't exciting at all, so having to play at a certain time or a special kind of game should get you hyped up (christmas game).

There is a Consistency rating already.

Don't know if this has been asked already but I'm still gonna ask it:

Do players' number of SS get increased or reduced during a span of time, let's say during association mode?

There is no flopping signature skill.

Charge Card seems pretty appropriate. It's annoying predicting when someone will just run all the way to the hoop and not pass to get a dunk, setting up for a charge and getting some weird blocking foul or having them dunk right on you as you're way outside of the circle for a charge.

The Haslem's and Glen Davis' of the league should be able to pull the call more efficiently instead of people who go for charges with people who don't even attempt them in real life.

More than likely, people will find the Charge Carders and always do it in the paint to cheese it out. Just watch where you're running.

Something that probably happens less than 30 times in an entire NBA season now has the potential of happening at least once per NBA 2K game is cheesy and immature.

I don't think you understand how high of a number 30% is when it comes to THIS.
I know this is probably extremely late, but you realize that you don't know how high of a number 30% is either? It's a 30% increase in the likelihood of making them stumble. That doesn't mean there's a 30% that they'll fall any time you do a crossover. It means they have a slightly higher likelihood of doing it compared to other ballhandlers. It's very rare in 2k12 to make them fall. So a 130% chance compared to a 100% chance is isn't really much.

Edit: So for example, say there's a 5% chance that each crossover makes someone fall. With an ankle breaker, there would be a 6.5% chance.

Don't know if it was posted already, but this is from producer Jerson Sapida's twitter https://twitter.com/JersDaCurse

Anklebreaker Sig Skill, defenders are not forced to just fall at random. Defender movement is a factor. It all plays in context to movement

Sounds to me that we have to actually bite on a crossover to get crossed this year. Its probably not as automatic. I think its okay to be concerned over the 30%, but if we actually have to go the wrong way on a cross to get crossed, the increase may only mean we have a better chance of stumbling if we pick the wrong direction. Of course, I'll actually have to play the game to know for sure.

Not only this but you'd have to take into consideration how good of a defender the on ball defender is.

i think instead of anklebreaker they should of had a sig were your player easily get pass some defenders. but we got to see how this ankle breaker works. but does looks a little to much when its rare for a defender to just fall while defending. I hope the defender staggers than straight up fall

If they added something like that then stick skills wouldn't matter. That would be a cheesy signature and speed is already fixed so I don't see the point in having a signature like that.

Also I think ankle breakers will work on how hard you pushed the left stick or how your momentum is carrying you. The harder you push the ls, that should determine which ankle break animation you get. So if I'm running to catch up with the ball handler and he does a step back, I should fall.
