Critically acclaimed franchise to give fans early start to this year’s MyCAREER experience, ability to play collegiate games and more!

2K today announced “The Prelude,” a free downloadable experience for NBA 2K17, the top-rated and top-selling NBA video game simulation series*, which will be available on September 9, 2016. For the first time in NBA 2K history, gamers – both new and old – will get to start their MyCAREER experience prior to the game’s launch on September 20, 2016 on Xbox One and PlayStation®4 computer entertainment systems. Gamers who download “The Prelude” will choose from multiple authentic Division I collegiate programs and have the ability to boost their stock for the NBA Draft. Additionally, “The Prelude” experience will include enhanced MyPlayer personalization through new mobile phone face scan technology via the MyNBA2K Companion App, and an all–new tutorial mode in 2KU, featuring 2016 USA Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski (“Coach K”).

“The Prelude was designed specifically to introduce new fans to our franchise, and give them an introduction to our legendary MyCAREER mode that puts the user at the center of an epic basketball story,” said Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts. “Veterans of NBA 2K will also love getting a head start on their MyCAREER, so when the game launches they can be ready to jump in and compete.”

During “The Prelude”, players will watch their draft stock fluctuate dynamically based on their performance across the participation of multiple authentic college games. In true cinematic form, they’ll also catch a glimpse of exclusive MyCAREER scenes through their customized avatar, which include interactions with high school coaches, teammates, and more. Players’ in-game performance during college play will ultimately influence where they are drafted upon entering the league in NBA 2K17.

“The incredible excitement during the first week of NBA 2K16’s launch showed us there was an opportunity to connect with even more fans prior to the formal release of NBA 2K17,” said Alfie Brody, VP of Marketing for NBA 2K. “We think we’ve given our passionate community something special with this year, and can’t wait to see the response from not only existing fans, but new ones as well.”

Included in “The Prelude” is 2KU, a tutorial featuring Coach K, focused on fundamental basketball strategies including pick and roll execution, proper defensive positioning, ball movement, boxing out, court awareness and more. Gamers can also use the MyNBA2K17 iOS and Android companion app to scan their facial likeness into their MyCAREER avatar within minutes. This new mobile phone camera fan scan technology serves as the perfect introduction to the custom experience, as players begin playing MyCAREER. Additionally, after September 16, 2016 gamers will be able to purchase and download playable “all-time great” teams for each of the playable colleges as well as special collegiate MyTeam cards representing legendary players.

The NBA 2K17 Standard Edition will be available in both digital and physical formats for $59.99 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, and Windows PC platforms on September 20. The NBA 2K17 Kobe Bryant Legend Edition will be available in digital and physical formats for $79.99 on Xbox One and PlayStation®4 system. Also available for pre-order is the NBA 2K17 Kobe Bryant Legend Edition Gold offering fans the ultimate value at $99.99 with all of the regular NBA 2K17 Legend Edition contents plus bonus items. All fans who pre-order any version of NBA 2K17 will receive their copy at Early Tip-Off four days early, September 16.

This would work like all star teamup I guess. Just a thought, would make proam more realistic and of course mean more use of your multiple myplayers and of course it doesn't have to be the same position, maybe you and a buddy want to change positions or whatever. This all hinges on what improvements they made to proam of course.

That would be the dopest thing.. I can't tell you how many times I was on my PG, and our C was getting killed I wanted to help so bad.

Are these caps going to at least allow us to make players like Melo, PG, Kyrie, CP3, Lillard, Kawhi, Harden? I do not want to grind for VC to make another rich man's Nic Batum. I'm probably in the minority here who doesn't want to make a role player.

...I don't want to make a role player, but in reality every person you listed has a glaring weakness. Does the fact that they are bad in 1 or 2 areas make them a role player?

Nope. I agree you should be able to make anything you want, but not for pro-am or park. I run a 6'6 inside SG. Am bad at post play, alright at rebounds, and my 3's are suspect.

Technically, that makes me a role player. But, It's how you use the guy that matters. I use the rebounding I upped to crash hard when running the 2. I take only wide open or "Have to shoot" 3's and end up at 30 to 50% from the floor. I can still outsmart guys in the pist, I just have to be careful.

So yeah, You can probably make harden, but he's probably going to suck defensively like he does in real life. You might be able to make Kyrie, but Kyrie isn't good at everything, he's good at a few things, average at others. Untill last year, Kawhi had a suspect jumpshot. LeBron is arguably the best player on the planet, and I'd hand him a 17 foot jumper all day because it's suspect. Even Micheal Jordan wasn't the best 3pt shooter. Everyone has a weakness. Weaknesses do not make you a role player. There's a difference

This man, I'm so hyped.

According to Ronnie2K, For those who dont play the prelude will still get the full My career experience. All the prelude is to get the college part out the way before the official game comes out so that when you get the official game, you start immediately in the NBA.

Other than the face scan (Which i dont know why isn't going to work for PC when the face scan is all server side as far as downloading your scans to the game works) and the Prelude (Week long demo- doesn't make sense to bring to PC when you might need to optimized and release patches for, too much work for 1 week) The PC version will be the same version as consoles. We just wont be able to get that head start with the prelude and face scan

What people are wondering is wether the college part is also in the pc version, it's obvious the mycareers are the same but I understand why they want to know

Oh yes, the college part is in the pc version.

Think of the prelude as the first chapter in the book that you can download for free (that's exclusive to Apple books)

Everyone that uses Kindle (PC) app still get the full book on release day just apple books (consoles) gets the first chapter for free

I also like to point out that 2k also brought face scan to PC last year partnering up with Intel. Did we ever find out the details to that deal because I wouldn't be surprised if Intel had some sort of 1 year exclusive deal regarding face scans on pc

What he's asking is will we be able to make someone that's an actual superstar in a few areas, and have weaknesses in one or two areas. In 2k16, really nobody's player was a real superstar. You had to be a midget to have great shooting stats, and if you had any sort of decent height, your offensive stats were no better than some above average player.

people actually play my park? I've tried a couple of times and all I saw were people standing or running around with open slots on courts. I didn't understand while there were open slots but nobody would play

If you're talking about Sunset, it's mainly because a lot of Park players seem to be afraid of the 4v4 court (same as 5v5 in 2k14). People can give as many excuses as they want, but it boils down to the fact that they can't maneuver as freely and superspam like they can on 2v2 and 3v3 courts, so they don't want to play on courts with more people.

At least, that's what I've seen.

And they don't like sharing the ball if that extra person

This. Love 4s. Good team ball kills in 4s. The people that get rotation and spacing become untouchable because they know what holes to exploit. Also, 50% of my putback dunks are 4s or pro am. Nothing feels better than soaring through a crowd and punching that thing back through the rim.

So hard to get a game though.

Cheesers are terrified of the 4s.

I'm curious as to why they didn't show weight. It's clearly there in the trailer on the task/menu bar at the top but they only showed wingspan and height.

My thinking.

1. Weight can change body shapes, as we've been asking and they want to keep that quiet for revealing in a dev diary late next week.

2. It's the exact same as every year and they can't be bothered with the backlash.

The only thing that doesn't convince me of these "archetypes" is that... I wanna make a D and 3 SF (aka one on the most common playstyles for a SF in the NBA). And I'm not talking Kawhi, my 2K16 MyPlayer is modeled after Iguodala, I'd gladly settle for a Crowder or DeMarre kind of player, but with only 7 ticks in 3pt shooting it looks like I'm gonna be Sefolosha.

Tony Allen is fine but Danny Green? Overpowered!

# 319 zyton @ 08/28/16 08:56 AM
My first impression is they don't have much change except the play styles.

Just changing the animation when selecting your height and wingspan doesn't mean it's new. We indeed had more on 2K16, like body length and shoulder width.

For the play styles of a SF, I see there is no longer an All-Around style like it used to be. If there are going to be hard caps for attributes, I don't like that.

No hype for me to be honest. College play is ok but the NBA career seems to be the same.

# 320 Barncore @ 08/28/16 08:58 AM
That's pretty cool. I like how the attributes are tied to the body shapes
