Astros rough up Young, Mariners in opener

Seattle - The jet lag looked like it finally caught up with the Mariners last night, as the team looked listless while getting thumped by Houston. a five run 2nd inning was all the Astros needed to put away the Mariners as Chris young got battered around giving up a pair of home runs, and six runs total. The Astros left the yard three times on Mariners pitching, which up until now has been excellent this season. It started off promising enough as Justin Smoak left the yard with his 3rd home run in the first inning, but the Astros did their damage the next time up and never looked back. Now the two teams go back at it tonight, as Houston sends up Jarred Cosart (1-2, 3.96 ERA) to go up against Felix Hernandez (1-2, 2.01 ERA) and the King's court tonight.

Walker, M's take rubber match

Miami - Taijuan Walker shook off a rocky first inning by not allowing another hit the rest of the day, and the Mariners bats brought him back as the Mariners took the series finale here in Miami 4-3. Walker gave up 3 hits including a two run double to Jarrod Saltalamacchia that let the Marlins jump out to an early 3-0 that held up until the fifth when Kyle Seager lead the inning off with a triple. After an RBI groundout Stefen Romero clubbed his first major league homerun and the Mariners were right back in it. The next inning they took the lead for good with an RBI single from Robinson Cano, and a sac fly by John Buck. The Mariners now must make the long flight home to Seattle, and be right back at it again tonight against the Houston Astros as they send Jerome Williams (2-0, 3.92 ERA) to the mound to take on Chris Young (1-0, 1.59 ERA).

Marlins walk off with win in 11th

Miami - The Mariners bats stayed cold in Florida, and this time the pitching wasn't enough to compensate as the Marlins got the victory in extra innings. James Paxton was excellent going seven innings only giving up one run, but the Mariners could only get one of their own on four hits, not registering a hit after the sixth inning. After a Reed Johnson triple in the 11th, the Mariners walked Giancarlo Stanton, before Garret Jones got the game winning single. The two teams will paly the rubber match this afternoon with Taijaun Walker (1-1, 2.40 ERA) matching up with Nathan Eovaldi (1-1, 6.16 ERA).

Iwakuma dominant as M's hold on for 1-0 win

Miami - Hisashi Iwakuma pitched eight shutout innings, and Fernando Rodney slammed the door in the ninth as one run proved to be enough as the Mariners got the victory. The Mariners went on the board right away in the first inning, but only managed two hits the rest of the way as the bats fell silent, but Iwakuma picked up his teammates getting himself out of jams, and holding the Marlins scoreless. The two teams will be back at it today as James Paxton (2-1, 4.15 ERA) squares off against Tom Koehler (0-2, 5.63 ERA).

Darvish shuts down Mariners. Ends win streak

Arlington - The Mariners were finally cooled off by a red hot Yu Darvish on Thursday afternoon, as the Texas ace pitched near shutout ball racking up 11 K's in the process, and the Rangers took the series finale 3-1 over the Mariners. Darvish went 8 2/3 before finally giving up a run on a Mike Zunino single, but Derek Holland came in and immediately got the final out for Texas. The Mariners now head off to Miami for their first ever games in the new Marlins ballpark to take on the Marlins. The pitchers in the opener will be Hisashi Iwakuma (1-1, 2.75 ERA) squaring off against Henderson Alvarez (1-1, 5.17 ERA).

Mariners rally late to stun Texas, win 3rd straight

Arlington - The Mariners used a late 8th inning rally to push it to extras, then shrewd managing, and timely hitting delivered the goods as the Mariners took game three of this four game series from Texas. Robbie Ross was crusing for the Rangers, and Mitch Moreland supplied the offense as Texas took a 3-0 lead into the late innings, but the Mariners got going in the 8th after 3 straight hits by the 1-2-3 hitters got the Mariners on the board, Corey Hart laced a single to center that drove in the tying runs to wipe away Ross' strong outing. Then the bullpen did their thing once again blanking the Rangers until the Mariners could break through in the 11th off a pinch hit single by Mike Zunino. The Mariners will look to continue their hot start tomorrow, by trying to sweep the four game series from Texas. It'll be an all-star pitching matchup that will try to slow down the offense that's been on display in this series as Felix Hernandez (1-1, 1.65 ERA) squares off against Yu Darvish (1-2, 4.91 ERA).

Walker strong as Mariners clobber Rangers 8-1

Arlington - Taijuan Walker did not give up an earned run in six strong innings, and the Mariners bats stayed hot in an 8-1 drubbing of the Rangers. Robinson Cano had a season high three RBI. While Corey Hart, and Kyle Seager each contributed three hits to the Mariners total of thirteen. Meanwhile the Rangers offense was held in check by the young phenom Walker rarely threatening to score until Michael Saunders misplayed a fly ball that lead to the Rangers only run in the game. The two teams are back for game three of the four game series today as Chris Young (1-0, 0.00 ERA) goes up against Robbie Ross (1-1, 2.57 ERA).

Mariners take series opener 5-3

Arlington - James Paxton gave the Mariners six strong innings, and the offense started to heat up in a 5-3 win for the Mariners. The M's got a season high 11 hits, as everyone in the lineup contributed in this one. A two run HR by Michael Saunders proved to be the difference in this one as the Mariners bullpen stretched, but was able to hold on late. The two teams go back at it today as Taijuan Walker (0-1, 4.00 ERA) matches up with Martin Perez (1-1, 4.61 ERA).

Athletics take finale 6-2

Seattle - The A's bats came alive in this finale tallying six runs and holding off a sweep with a 6-2 victory. Jarrod Parker was solid for the A's taking a shutout into the 8th until a solo shot by Mike Zunino put the Mariners on the board. Two batters later Brad Miller sent another ball into the seats, and it was finally time for Parker to hit the showers, but the Oakland lineup that had been neutralized in the first two games, was able to get to Hisashi Iwakuma in this one. The Mariners now jet out of town to Arlington for a four game series starting tonight. James Paxton (1-1, 5.56 ERA) will get the ball for the Mariners going up against Colby Lewis (2-0, 2.03 ERA) in the opener.

Hernandez dominates A's as Mariners win again

Seattle - Felix Hernandez was sharp as ever on Saturday night, allowing just two hits over a dominant seven innings of work. His one blemish an 8th inning lead off home run by Josh Reddick, but the bullpen slammed the door shut on the A's after that, and Robinson Cano, and Justin Smoak provided enough offense to carry the Mariners to a victory. Cano hit a shot to straight away center in the bottom of the 8th that put some distance between the two teams, and hopefully his bat is finally starting to heat up for the Mariners. Who are still lacking middle of the order production so far this season. The two teams will wrap up their series this afternoon as Jarrod Parker (0-1, 5.06 ERA) will go up against Hisashi Iwakuma (1-0, 1.29 ERA)

Mariners rally late to take series opener

Seattle - The Mariner's bullpen patched together a gem, and Dustin Ackley provided the late lightning with an 8th inning solo shot to give the Mariners a 2-1 victory in this one. The Bullpen was tested after Chris Young came out with an elbow injury after throwing only 2.0 innings, but they were more than up to the task as six total pitchers combined to hold the A's to 1 run on 5 hits. The two teams will be back at it again today with A.J. Griffin (1-0, 0.60 ERA) going up against Felix Hernandez (0-1, 1.93 ERA).
