Seattle - Once again the Mariners could not generate much with the bat, but this time the pitching could not hold up, as the Angels were able to get a split in the quick 2 game series. Former Mariner Raul Ibanez drove in three of the Angels four runs in the ball game. While on the other side Robinson Cano had his first home run as a Mariner, a solo shot in the sixth inning. The Mariners now get a day off before welcoming the Oakland A's into town for a three game weekend series.

Seattle - The Mariners bats again had trouble getting going, but again strong pitching kept them around long enough to pick up the win. Mike Zunino had the go ahead RBI in the 5th with a sac fly, and the bullpen held on to lock down James Paxton's first win of the season. The two teams conclude their quick two game series tomorrow as Garrett Richards (0-1, 32.40 ERA) goes up against Taijuan Walker (0-0, 0.00 ERA).

Oakland - A.J. Griffin was baffling hitters all day with his curve, but his big pitch count forced him to finally give way to the bullpen, and that's when clutch hitting gave the Mariners the win and allowed them to take this series from the A's. Mike Zunino roped a double into the gap right after a Cole Gillespie single, and the Mariners that couldn't buy a hit all day got two clutch ones in the 9th to take this one. Not to be forgotten is the solid start from Hisashi Iwakuma who went seven innings again and kept it close for the Mariners to finally break through. Charlie Furbush got the win after a shutdown inning in the 8th, and Fernando Rodney was electric once again in securing his fourth save on the young season. The Mariners now head home to open Safeco Field for the season Tuesday night.

Oakland - The Mariners hot bats got cooled off by an even hotter Sonny Gray, and a late homerun by Brandon Moss lifted the A's to their first win in the series against the Mariners. The M's managed to tie it late after a Justin Smoak homerun, but that was the only offense the Mariners would see all day. Then in the bottom half after Danny Farquhar came in to relieve Felix Hernandez, who looked decidedly sharper in this outing than his first, Moss hit the bomb that sealed the win for Oakland. The two teams finish up their four game series tomorrow afternoon as Hisashi Iwakuma (1-0, 1.29 ERA) faces off with A.J. Griffin (1-0, 0.00 ERA).

Oakland - Justin Smoak finally broke through providing the big hit the Mariners needed, and Fernando Rodney slammed the door on his 3rd save as the Mariners took the second game of this series in Oakland. Chris Young was impressive in his Mariner debut, retiring the first 17 batters he faced before a Brad Miller error broke up the perfect game bid. Coco Crisp tripled the very next at bat and suddenly it looked as if the stellar start may be for naught. The M's came through in the top half of the 8th though loading the bases with no one out and getting a run on a fielder's choice ground out before Smoak's double gave the Mariners some breathing room.

Oakland - Another Mariner's starter had to leave the game early, but this time the bullpen was able to hold onto the lead and squeeze out a 3 run victory. Michael Saunders, and Brad Miller each contributed 3 hits to the Mariner's offense, and Corey Hart added 2 more RBI. Yoervis Medina came on for 2 innings of relief, and got the win, while Rodney picked up save #2. The two teams are back at it again tomorrow with Chris Young set to make his Mariner debut against Dan Straily.

Paxton, Mariners drop series finale
Anaheim - The Mariners bats powered James Paxton to a 4-0 lead, but he gave it right back in the bottom half of the inning surrendering five runs, and the rest of the Mariners staff couldn't hold off the Angels bats as they held on for an 8-6 victory. Kyle Seager hit his first two home runs on the season, and Corey Hart added his second in as many days as well, but the Mariners pitching staff was unable to hold up against the Angels powerful lineup. The Mariners now travel up to Oakland to start a 4 game series. Taijuan Walker will be facing off with Scott Kazmir in the opener.

Iwakuma, Hart power M's to first win
Anaheim - The Mariners got a solid outing from Hisashi Iwakuma, and Corey Hart supplied the offense the Mariners needed to take their first win of the season over the Angels. Hart's 2 run homer in the third put the M's out to a 3-0 lead, and that was enough for Iwakuma, and company as new closer Fernando Rodney was able to slam the door in the ninth. The teams will have the rubber match tomorrow as James Paxton will oppose Hector Santiago

Felix leaves opener early, Angels down M's 4-1 in.
Anaheim - Felix Hernandez left the game early with back tightness, and the Mariners bullpen could not hold despite only giving up 4 hits, as the Angels won the season opener 4-1 in front of their hometown fans. Jered Weaver was outstanding in the win for Anaheim working seven strong innings only giving up a lone run. The three run sixth inning put together by Anaheim proved to be enough as the Angels got clutch hits from Albert Pujols, and Josh Hamilton to provide enough offense to hold off the anemic M's. The two teams will be back at it again tomorrow as Hisashi Iwakuma will face off against C.J. Wilson.

Raiders spending spree continues

The Raiders continued to boost their roster yesterday. This time by landing prized free-agent Demaryius Thomas from the rival Broncos for a mega 6 year deal worth a whopping 73.4 million dollars. Brees spurns Saints, signs with Denver for chance at a championship

Quarterback Drew Brees shocked the New Orleans Saints and many others in the NFL yesterday as he announced that he would be signing with the Denver Broncos, instead of going back to New Orleans. When he announced a couple weeks ago that he would be coming out of retirement, most just assumed he would wind up back in the Bayou. Instead he went to Denver because in his words it gave him a better chance at winning another Super Bowl. Now the Saints are left scrambling to find a quarterback solution this off-season, without a No. 1 Pick in this years up coming draft.
Panthers land Hakeem Nicks

In a move that had been rumored for months, wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is coming home to Charlotte where he played college ball and signing with the Carolina Panthers for a 5 year deal worth 31.5 million dollars. The Panthers will hop this softens the blow from the recent retirement of Steve Smith from the team.

SEATTLE FINALLY SUPER
Seahawks capture franchies' first ever Lombardi Trophy with 38-10 rout over Bills in Super Bowl XLIX
Glendale - The Seattle Seahawks captured their first ever championship on Sunday Night, and sent the whole northwest into pandemonium. The Hawks used the same formula they have all year with stifling defense, and a grueling rushing attack to wear down, and beat down the AFC Champion Buffalo Bills. Russell Wilson was named the games MVP with two passing touchdowns, and a big time 72 yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter to add to his already idolized status in Seattle. In his third season he is already sure to go down as one of, if not the greatest athlete in the region's history, as he erased decades of pain for a city that hadn't had a champion since the long gone Seattle Supersonics of 1979. Whatever happens from this moment forward, the franchise will always have this one shining moment to look back on where they can say without a doubt, they were the best in the world.
