"A rookie defensive back sealed the fate of the Ravens today, sending the Titans into the second round of the playoffs in Madden NFL 10.

The Tennessee Titans (9-7) took on the Baltimore Ravens (10-6) in the opening game of the AFC Wildcard game today in a crazy back and forth game filled with dazzling special teams and defensive play. QB Joe Flacco threw an interception as time wound down that rookie CB Ryan Mouton intercepted with less than 20 seconds to go in regulation to seal the Titans victory."

Also, I have a serious question. Pastapadre said the "interviewed" the player of the game after the game yet Ian rides out the replays all the way back to the menu, and Hammond and collinsworth say goodbye right at the beginning of the replays so cutting down to the field would not make any sense as they would just pop up.

Needless to say it doesnt look like that is in the game, therefore, what does everyone make of this?

Good catch...Yeah the phone scene should stop triggerring in the final minutes.

Something else that was a small issue was I saw the same John Harbaugh cut scene twice within a handful of plays.

I think the interview is just a cut scene with no actual dialogue. I may have even read that it only was done at the Super Bowl.

Thats odd, I interpreted it as something else, I was looking forward to seeing that.

Did Ian mention anything about there being a bug in the commentary? Hammond was still adding on Collins game stats to his season stats saying that he just passed the 3000 yd mark. Also it I think it was Collinsworth that said that over the years Flacco has proven to come through time and time again, or something like that, that would be his second year in the NFL I don't think someone can really say over the years he has proven himself. Plus the historical stats just look out of place, I don't care that theres some memorial thing in Baltimore, (I can't exactly remember what it said) give us some more relevant stats.

If you do read this please take it as constructive criticism, I'm not trying to hate on a game that I no doubtily am going to buy, I'm trying to give input to make it better.

Sigh Ima be honest. The game looks like 09 with some added additions. Now dont get me wrong the additions they made are good. The blocking is better but at the same time the dline gets no penetration and the QB has ALL day to throw the ball. The half time presentation needs alot of work. I watch all my 2k halftime shows. Madden 10 show will be getting skipped everytime lol. The player running animations and locomotion are terrible. They look like robots running in water. I understand the game is slowed down but Chris Johnson runs to upright and he looks like he's just jogging. The defensive pursuit angles where terrible. The playbooks have the same freakin plays since Madden started on the next gen systems. The commentary is horrible. But even though I'll still buy Madden for the online franchise with my cousins but other than that the game doesnt excite me that much.

He is a sideline to sideline guy and he couldn't come close to getting to Chris Johnson on the outside! It seems tough to run up the middle but easy to the outside. Everytime it's a run to the outside it's 1 on 1 with 1 man to beat for a td EVERYTIME it seems! Why does Ray Lewis attack the line consistently when the play is a toss or sweep to the outside? He takes himself right out of the play... Where is his play recognition of 99 or whatever he is?

I have posted this before about defensive line play and I know you have as well, but I would love to play with the star defensive lineman of the league and be able to have control with them and dominate from a variety of moves - swim move Right and Left, spin move, and power moves. If the offense is doing a dive and I am A. Haynesworth and he's coming at me and I'm being blocked and say he is going to the right of me then I can make a move to release from the Olineman blocking me and fill the gap and stuff him!

Defense is where it's at! You can't focus 100% on offense and not give defense the same attention! That makes for a lopsided game. No matter what they do with offense I know I can put up points on anyone. If they improved the defense then maybe that wouldn't be the case. Defenses should be able to dominate with the better defensive teams that is. Make that "in the game"!!! Runs to the outside need to be fixed somehow though! I'm not even sure if I was Ray Lewis and as soon as the snap of the ball and I knew the run was going right and i sprinted over there from the snap that I could even come close to being able to tackle Chris Johnson??? Is that realistic? I know C. Johnson is fast but c'mon! Don't make him unrealistic and unstoppable because there was lack of defensive adjustments this year as far as dline and linebackers go...

Make it happen LBZ PLEASE!!! We NEED YOU!!!
Back on the grind this morning for about an hour or so. The issues I documented in the video and sent to adem were 1) ILB play; 2) OLB play; 3) Pass rush; 4) Play recognition; 5) Lack of Safety run support. If you look at this video closely you will see all of these. For instance #5, on one of the run plays in the first video, Ed Reed backpedals until Chris Johnson is 3 yards pass the line of scrimmage. Ray Lewis does a lot of quirky things in the video. For players with 99 play recognition, I'd expect Reed and Lewis to be all over these runs. Play recognition is not kicking in. Lewis does a great deal of crashing on tosses when he should be scrapping.

Also, I think Tavarres Gooden did not get his ratings increase from the CD build because he can't tackle Chris Johnson. Good had two great plays where he read and crashed the gap only to get trucked by Chris Johnson in the backfield. Physics has to come into play here. Gooden is coming downhill full speed; Johnson has just received the ball, so he cannot have too much force behind him.

Finally OLB's, I count twice in the entire game where the OLB's played the outside run like they were supposed to. Once by Suggs and once by Jarrett Johnson. ON these two plays they did not wait for the blockers to come to them, they attacked the blockers up the field got off the block and tackled the back as he tried to get outside. But on the same plays the Backside ILB had some bad things going on. On every snap besides those two, Ravens and Titans, the OLB's literally stood motionless and waited for the blockers to come to them and hence no edge was sealed. The run was not forced back inside.

I think this is just tuning stuff hopefully. I'm going to read Ian's thread on the pass rush find now. I'm happy to hear something has been found. It's a long read so that might mean it's something big.

Running animations Doesn't look like there actually running if you know what I mean. More like jogging. Takes away from the overall realness of the game.

I think many of us were concerned with the game speed. I'd love for Ian to show a 5 minute video of Madden on fast instead of slow.

Hopefully someone sees this-the fake fb hb dive seems to be TOO good-only two Ravens go to the toss. I think that is a lot for a great D...(1st video, the first TD, I believe at 3:00, I watched it yesterday.)

These videos are amazing. Thanks a lot for putting these up. Can't wait for August.

I just wanna bring up one more point about the presentation cameras...

I just played a game of Madden 09, and I threw some bad passes on purpose that were almost intercepted, a few were deflected. The camera more often than not, spotlighted the player who made the deflection or dropped the pick. Unless I've just forgotten, so far in Madden 10, I'm not seeing this happen.

I hope they look into that. Those near picks and deflections are a big deal and it's one of the few times a network gets to give a defender his own shot.

I agree. I love the way the cutscenes look and the fact that they have them. Sometimes I do feel they are implemented poorly. It's a bit all over the place, IMO.

And technically, from a pure x's and o's standpoint, the way computer controlled players are reacting to certain plays, (and the pursuit angles they take), this game still looks far below the bar that 2K set several years ago. Namely the OL/DL interaction, and more specifically the run blocking.

Also, the players still look like they're on ice...

*looks for Electric Football youtube video that has been so aptly compared*

BTW: Ian, you posted the game videos on EAs inside blog. It wasn't like some specially ripped videos for the OS community that you did after hours for us. You making the comment "why do I even bother" seems unjustified. Obviously, you bother, because you're trying to display the improvements of the game (EA inside blog is nothing more than an alternative medium to market the game).

Also, I dont understand why you continue to fish for compliments. It's attention-seeking at its finest, and comes off very unprofessional.

We need the people making this game to put their heart into the way the game plays, not how the community perceives them.

Build advocates with an amazing representation of the NFL...

It seems like you're investing way too much energy in trying to "convince" people about how great and improved the game is -- which is seemingly unfair given our controlled-visibility so far... This tactic is consistent with the reputation EA has earned over the last half decade or so.
Man stop crying, the guy didn't just put up vids to go hey guys how great the game looks, Its a way for the community to pick of certain things they dislike or need tuning. People on OS aren't the only people that want info on Madden, so whole inside blog statement you just talking out azz.

Looks really good and you guys appeared to have definitely improved on the last two versions.

One suggestion..... For cold games, the coaches should be dressed accordingly. Both coaches and the trainers are in short sleeve and it is January. Not a major thing, but just a thought. Great job.

# 459 e0820 @ 06/13/09 03:55 PM
watched the video heres what I think,

The good
-----------
graphics are awesome
like the cut scenes
like the sidelines
halftime replays

The bad
----------
no defense
where were the fumbles?
presentation, no replays after TDs! not many stat overlays
halftime girl was stale "Baltimore gained over 200 yards, the teams are tied"
as the guy is tackled it goes to a cut scene, so you cant break a tackle? what happens if he fumbles?
no day to night transition, that was the longest sunset ever in january
despite being cold, the fans all had short sleeves.

I'm stoked that the "Playoffs" logo on the field is finally in.
