WOW! Just can't believe that a basketball video game couldn't get any better than 2K11. I always thought that 2K12 could be slightly better by adding a few tweaks. BUT reading the previews and reading this article, 2K12 maybe miles ahead of 2K11. And I still play and enjoy 2K11!

Very excited about everything I read... especially inbound plays. Revolutionary.

Once Rob said that Czar was involved, I knew this was going to be good. I really like the changes to the playcalling, both for offense and defense. It will be nice to take a team like OKC and base its offense around Durant & Westbrook, or have Dallas run most of its play through Dirk.

On defense, I like that you can make some very effective calls with the quick menu; I did appreciate the levels of pressure and other things you could change in 2K11, but you had to wait until a timeout or pause the game and enter another menu to make all of those changes. Much quicker now, which is nice.

lets hope we can save plays... if not... this is pretty much useless.

Nice insight, once again 2K is raising the bar for sports SIM video games. That new leak out option on defense and the new fastbreak animations that the players will have that we saw in the videos so far will finally please alot of us that have been wanting better fastbreaks in 2Kbaskeball games for the past few years. God I wish these guys could make a NFL game. Back on topic - that play call system is a great improvement, 2K devs are putting so much effort and improvements into a already fantastic game, that its crazy. Also loving the improve A.I. on offense when playing the computer, it was getting annoying when it got to the point you could predict what the CPU was running and stop it because the play was alittle to scripted at times. Thanks to DaCzar for for giving his input into the playcalling system, the guy knows his stuff and people like him and others on operation sports are the ones that will keep 2K to keep pushing every year to improve there sports games. OCT 4........

the more aggresive they are the more tired and fouls will happen..That would be a game changer..

This is why 2k is great. Instead of just making minor updates to play calling they pretty much overhauled it and made it more approachable for both die hard and casual players. I love the quick play options, definitely will help liven up the offensive and defensive side of the ball without having to call specific plays or go into the coaches menu to adjust defensive strategy/tendencies. The number of plays and branching options will also help from the plays and playbook becoming stale. Hopefully now I'll be able to use plays in user vs user games without the person I'm playing against just cheating by reading the play guide (i never knew different team plays well enough to shut off the play guide).

It amazes how 2k manages too change so many aspects of their game each year, whether they are minor tweaks or huge improvements. It seems like nothing goes untouched each year. If only Madden's developers were the same we could have a AAA football title again

I'm thinking they will talk about saving playbooks online during their online insight. Not totally sure about this but I could see that happen. If they don't mention it there, then I don't know if they will before the game releases.

but 2k has been making it progressively harder to "cheese" IMO...Think about 2k8-10

Ive never felt more empowered to stop your LeBron types than I have in 2k11....post patch anyway...

I just KNEW the Heat would be ridiculously hard to stop in 2k11 but im honestly like 25+ and 5 against them....alot of those victorys with the Hornets.

if 2k12 is even a small step up well be fine.
I am an avid Hornets user can't wait to pick apart teams with this new play system. Paul was already one of the most deadly players in the game, if you are knew how to use him.

cheesing isn't dead, and imo it never will be. Any online game will have players who will find ways to exploit the game and "cheese" their way to victory. However the new play calling system makes calling plays and playing a more sim style of basketball easier than ever. I try to play a more sim style but in past years it was hard because the playbooks were limited and if you didn't call plays the offense became very stagnant and almost motionless. The quick play defensive strategy alone should force the offense to think more about what they are doing and react to what the defense is calling. 2k12 seems like it will make the user vs user games a lot more fun and add more strategy to basketball games than ever.

The depth of this system while also being simple to use should really make more people call plays. I can't wait until Oct. 4.

This! The developers try to eliminate it as much as they can, but cheesers will cheese. They will find a way. But as long as we continue to voice how they cheese, I feel the developers will continue to refine the game and make it more difficult. I think the hop step and spin move cheese will decrease because it's no longer mapped to a button. Hopefully that means no more spamming that move/

# 114 Mos1ted @ 09/02/11 04:27 PM
I think cheesers cheese because quite frankly, they don't understand the fundamentals of the sport. Continuously trying to penetrate with Lebron James even though the path to the lane isn't open is simply evidence that the user doesn't know of any other way to score. Given the fact that the user had success using that strategy to begin with was either the result of poor gameplay mechanics or his opponent not discovering a way to stop him. In my opinion, there wasn't a single move a cheeser could use in NBA 2K11 that couldn't be countered with good defense. Once I figured out the cheeser's tendencies, it was pretty easy to predict what he was going to do on offense and adjust my defense accordingly.

The only advantage cheesers have online is that rank games are relatively short. In a full 48 minute game, I doubt cheesers would win any game because they wouldn't have the patience to stick it out against skilled users.

how does the out of bounds play calling work for two player games?

I wouldn't say useless but I don't really like quick games and stuff. Playing team up with people you know and will play unselfishly is fun as hell.

I'd imagine it works exactly the same as single player. During the timeout (as shown is the screenshot) all you are selecting is 1)Inbounder 2)Shooter and 3) Type of play. If you call the play after the time out, it should run just as you set it.
