MLB 14 The Show News Post

Operation Sports reader tedus captured a few videos from his MLB 14 The Show hands-on in Taiwan. He also grabbed a couple of screenshots showing off the new front end, which confirms online franchise.

Below are a few of his impressions, after playing for 10 minutes. More info is sure to come soon, but until then, enjoy.
  • The field/batting camera changed!
  • Presentation almost the same!
  • Control felt good!
  • Base running animation felt some different!
  • Fielding felt more responsive

That I can't tell you.
It's possible. Maybe Legal at 2K isn't as stringent as in Sony.
But I know Sony takes great lengths to stay in the stringent guidelines set by the MLB...and MLBPA.

Maybe Sony is using an outdated style guide and 2K used the most up to date.

Does Sony and anyone else have to pay to renew their guide every year?

There is also a new dynamic defense camera as well.

I'm loving it! On balls hit in the outfield you can now clearly see second base so you can make better choices if you want to go for third or make it a standup double because you can see the ball and cut-off man the whole time.

Dynamic camera looks really good. Really helps to immerse you inside the ballparks outside of RTTS.

Seeing ball and runner/base in the same screen is something some of us have been asking for. I think camera alone can add drama to plays by a) allowing the player to judge ball-flight to see if the ball will drop in, get by a player, or leave the yard; b) just like a fan would judge for himself, you get to see a runner and a throw into a base in the same field of view...adds drama if you ask me. Am excited to see how this cam plays out on the PS4 but also still hoping for more than just 'one' added cam. Was really hoping they would open the camera floodgates by adding 3 or 4 new ones.

Same presentation? Ugh....puuuuuuke.

But that new menu screen and Online Franchise brought me right back in. Bastards.

I guess this is a dumb question but could someone inform me what the "scorebug" is? I'm a long time player of the show, but i'm confused as to what you guys are talking about.....

The only dumb questions are the ones that aren't asked.

It's the graphic display that shows a game's score. In this game, it's in the upper left. On Sunday Night Football, it's at the bottom of the screen. Et cetera. A "bug" is just that small on-screen display that shows info.

EDIT: What JCM said as well.

The "bug" in the top left corner of the screen that shows the teams, scores, pitch count, outs, innings, etc.

It's a broadcast term. A "bug" is a small on-screen image or graphic that displays information, and is typically dynamic.

And on this day, January 27th, 2014, I have been able to apply my Journalism and Telecommuncations degree in a practical situation. +1 for college debt!

It's the score graphic at the top of the screen that shows all the info

Love the new camera view while batting. Can't wait to see the ps4 version. I just wish Matt V wasn't back, but besides that it looks great!!

My thoughts agree somewhat in the paint job comment, but theres no doubt the PS3 version will still get many changes, these guys arent in the business of putting out $60 roster updates.

Not to knock at all, it still looks good and im sure will still be an excellent game, but it does look eerily similar in many ways to '13, and i believe thats because of time restraints due to the PS4 taking up so much dev time and resources.

I honestly get the feeling the PS4 version is going to blow us away looks wise, and may even have a totally different scorebug, on screen text, pretty much everything to differentiate it as the king from its little brother.

Now we simply have to be patient for PS4 media, but yes, it is a painful wait but it will be worth it in the end

i was asking for this too.
but its still not it the game it appears.
I was just talking about playing from behind the pitcher camera. Id like to see the projected flight of the ball off the bat in that view, before it switches to camera. instead of not knowing where the ball is headed before it switches to fielding camera.

Its obviously still not in the game after viewing the behind the pitcher camera gameplay. sucks.

hopefully its in the ps4 version.

In that case...there was nothing he could do unless St. Louis or the MLB updated his guide(which they had not before release)

"I have a hard time believing that."

:-D

Seriously, some people would rather place us as part of the 'conspiracy' than accept it. It probably was SRD tho, I know I pretty much knew his Busch Stadium requests by heart when explaining them to the stadium guys. (And that's not a knock at Syd, I just think that he is very thorough.)

Edit: I love the dynamic cams! They are similar to the ones I was messing around with last January at the MLB13 community days (I mentioned in one of my breakdown post), only better and much more refined. That's another great thing about the Sony SD crew, the fact that we are even allowed to ''dink' around with things like this. And now to see it implemented... :-)

I have always been a big advocate of the pitch count and pitch callout on the scorebug.
