MLB 14 The Show News Post

Operation Sports reader tedus captured a few videos from his MLB 14 The Show hands-on in Taiwan. He also grabbed a couple of screenshots showing off the new front end, which confirms online franchise.

Below are a few of his impressions, after playing for 10 minutes. More info is sure to come soon, but until then, enjoy.
  • The field/batting camera changed!
  • Presentation almost the same!
  • Control felt good!
  • Base running animation felt some different!
  • Fielding felt more responsive

You'll always have 1992 and 1993.

I may be wrong but if the past is indicative of the future, I would not expect the PS4 version to be leaps and bounds better than the PS3 version. I suspect this years version on the PS4 will basically play very similar to the PS3 version, just with better graphics and perhaps a few improvements as far as stat tracking, more and varied commentary ect... It really wasn't until MLB 09 was released on the PS3 that we saw marked improvements in the gameplay department. For this reason alone I will be sticking to the PS3 for this year and maybe even next year. I basically only play The Show on my PS3, so I can't really justify the $400 price tag for a graphical upgrade. I suspect MLB 16 will be the pinnacle of this franchise for this Generation.

Maybe when you see the PS4 version you might change your mind about that $400 purchase

To be honest, the PS2 to PS3 was a much bigger upgrade graphically then the PS3 to PS4. It seems like with every generation of console the graphical upgrades are less impressive then the last. PS3 graphics are already so good it makes sense that there will come a point where graphics will be maxed out. As is, the game currently almost looks like it's a real live game.

How can you say that if you haven't even seen gameplay from ps4 yet? It might blow you away.

I don't think SCEA would have rebuilt every stadium if it was not going to look heaps better. More bang for your buck and all that.

Yes, you may be right, but from early screen shots that I have seen, I wasn't blown away. Yes there is definitively some improvement, but with the game already looking so polished it will be hard to make it look that much better. This is not a knock at the game but rather a compliment. I'm sure we will see things like finer detail in facial features and stadiums but nothing worth dropping $400 on right away. This game already looks so good on the PS3 and just can't see how the graphics can improve exponentially.

What I am looking forward to the most isn't necessarily "graphics" but just the improvements in player movement, animations, physics, and atmosphere that are hopefully going to be the major upgrades. Aesthetically, the differences might not be that significant, but once you start playing, where The Show excels, is the little things that make your jaw drop a bit and say "I've never seen that in a game before." With that being said, I think that is where the PS4 will be considerably better than the PS3.

Also Russell has already said in the first teaser trailer that it wouldn't take years for them to get in stride with the ps4 , I think the first year on ps4 will be a huge improvement, maybe not the best, but 100% worth it

That is what i am looking forward to as well....I have been playing a lot of Fifa for PS4 waiting for the Show and the difference in animations have made it so much more enjoyable and just fun to "watch" the different plays you can make...so much variation in goals and collisions that it feels much more realistic then the PS3 version did...

To see that happen in The Show whether it be swings or pitching mechanics or different fielding plays will take this already great franchise to a new level....haha not that im super excited or anything
