NBA 2K17 will feature league expansion for MyGM and MyLEAGUE modes. Check out the details in the new blog from Erick Boenisch, AKA SimBaller.

For anyone who has read my blogs in the past, you know that I am serious about MyGM and MyLEAGUE. I'm blessed to work with a core group of people who share the exact same level of passion. We've done a LOT of work to these modes this year, and one feature I can't stop talking about is...League Expansion. This is entirely new to NBA 2K17, and is the feature I want to tell you about today.
It continues to amaze me that they continue to invest and add s kuchen to this game even with normal competiton. Refreshing approach compared to a few particular companies.
Some of them are in the menu picture that was posted (Hi-res version)
Baltimore Barons
Cincinnati Lions
Kansas City Knights
Louisville Liberty
Nashville Stars
Pittsburgh Force
San Diego Surf
St. Louis Sound
Vancouver Ravens
Virginia or Virginia Beach Storm (guess part of the logo is covered)
Good catch! I'm not crazy about the Louisville Liberty name but the beauty of the whole thing is that I can change it all up if I want. Also shoutout to not going the Madden route and adding third teams for New York and Los Angeles.
I hope we can fully edit and customize courts, logos, and uniforms for existing teams.
I hope so too...I'm really hopeful to see an ability to edit every single board on the court. I'd love to be able to remake the old Rockets court, Hornets court, Jazz court, etc.
Some of the preset teams from what I see from the pictures are:
Nashville Stars
Louisville Liberty
San Diego Surf
Baltimore Barons
Kansas City Knights
Cincinnati Lions
Virginia Storm
St.Louis Sound
Pittsburgh Force
Vancouver Ravens

The Liberty name belongs in Philadelphia, Storm is a WNBA name, so no, I think NFL when I think Ravens and Lions, they couldn't have used another unused bird like Dodo Peacock or Ostrich or something? Knights I like. Sound belongs in Seattle. Surf sounds like something out of a semi pro league. Stars and Barrons I like. Force, again, something out of a semi pro league.
They could've gotten better more clever names is my point. A name I like is Pterror, which is short for Pterosaur, is an awesome name imo. I think that's what I'll name my team, can't let the Raptors corner the market on dinosaur names.
I hope the online my league is exactly the same as offline. They left a bunch to be desired in 2k16. They are doing a great job though adding things to the game year in year out. I just want online leagues to resemble offline. Draft, contracts, expansion everything.
I feel like there are gonna be more stock teams, so I'm hoping there are some for all the relocation cites from the last game as well as some new cites!
I think they need to split the difficulty simulator into home and away. Having home court advantage should make a difference.
When the new teams are implemented into the league they should have minuscule crowd numbers because they won't have much support.
Tattoos, can we please put them on players. (Rookies & Created ones)
Can we please be able to retire numbers?
Finally, body types. They are clearly in the game, you can see KD and Steph have a slender body while LBJ and Shumpert are built and Bennet is just fat, can we have these body types to chose from when adding rookies.
Looking forward to getting my hands into the game.
Dude you just said everything I've been thinking. Only thing I would add is give freaking DLEAGUE! It would help with development of players man.
Wow news is great and it makes me think about a couple of other possible features that could be in the game.
1) If downloading a created team from the online community is a thing now, one would assume that create a team is a feature that is now back.
2) Also with the expansion teams will the teams be created from a list of free agents, fake generated/created players, or could we possibly see D-League return with us being able to pick up some of the top performers in the d league for our expansion team.
hmmm guess we'll have to wait and see, but one thing is for sure, every year 2k finds a way to implement new ideas.

Dammit 2K.
Now the tough choice.
To use an existing league or start an expansion team from scratch (First World problems heh)
Initially I was going to control the Mavs and post a Dynasty Blog on OS about it, but damn, this new feature is so tempting. Heck I remember posting about this back in the 2K12 Wishlist lol
so..confused about the start today thing..so if I am halfway through a season in the game and there is a big roster update can I just pick that and it updates the roster? or do you have to start the season over from there?
