NBA 2K17 Features League Expansion For MyGM & MyLEAGUE Modes

NBA 2K17 will feature league expansion for MyGM and MyLEAGUE modes. Check out the details in the new blog from Erick Boenisch, AKA SimBaller.

We've done a LOT of work to these modes this year, and one feature I can't stop talking about is...League Expansion. It means you start a NEW MyLeague exactly the way the real life NBA is at that point.

So, if you start the season March 2nd, you're standings, stats, transactions, injuries and everything else will match the current NBA season, and you go from there.

Kentucky Colonels was my first choice, but legal squashed that so we went with Louisville Liberty. We also couldn't do Nashville Sound, but liked that name so we put it on St. Louis because of the city's blues history. And for some of the other more generic sounding ones, like Lions, our more creative choices got poo-poo'd by legal.

PS - I'm not going to be able to answer any questions people may have, so please don't ask. Marketing has a plan on when to release information and I can't say anything until it's been announced. I figured this was something safe to comment on...

Legal issues, huh? Alright, I can live with that. Sucks, but better to stay out of court...the kind with lawyers.

Keep up the fantastic work, man. Already got 2K17 pre-ordered on Steam.

There used to be an arena football team in the '90s called the Texas Terror.
They used the Frankenstein monster as their logo.

They quickly changed their name to one of the weirdest I've ever seen on a sports team: the Houston Thunderbears.

I'm not sure if that name is awesome or terrible...but the team folded in 2001, so it's a moot point.

Awesome!! I already have 3 ML's going; 1 current NBA, in 2019 on that one. One is Euroleague, and the last one is a "who's number one" with classic teams along with the modern Warriors and Cavs. I'm gonna need a LOT more save slots this year. Especially if we are somehow able to have more teams rebranded.

Dude, we can recreate entire past seasons. We can create the 92-93 season complete with rosters, uniforms, and courts. That's insanity.

So I have a question. If we start a myLeague and want to do expansion after it starts can I add a euroleague team as an expansion team after I start? If so will it keep its current roster rather than doing an expansion draft?

Nah as it says it's every single MyLeague/MyGM oriented game mode.

As trivial as it may seem to some, this is the single feature that will keep me playing through the entire cycle. So many possibilities now for us team builders. I hope they add the D-League as well, if so it will make for the best Association/Franchise mode for any sports game ever IMO.

The rosters won't be filled out by the CPU with generated players, there will be an expansion draft.

Love, love, love that Start Today & Playoff modes are in! Expansion has me intrigued as well
