MLB The Show 17 News Post

The folks at Sony Interactive Entertainment break down their MLB The Show 17 trailer which was released earlier this month. Here are some nuggets you'll find mentioned:
  • New hairstyles made it into the game (Shown in the new AA locker room).
  • Road to The Show will feature a new non-linear decision making system, which will allow you to make big decisions that matter.
  • More player and team specific personality will be included in this year's game.
  • Spin of the ball off of the bat has been greatly improved with new hit types like curving hits down the line.
  • Four new Historical Stadiums are included in the game. (Old Yankee Stadium, Hubert H. Humphry Metrodome, Shea Stadium, Sun Life Stadium) - Nice detective work 13SM13!
  • All batter walkups in Diamond Dynasty will show the player card types on screen.
  • Show Track allows for some new presentational elements in this year's game.
  • More player specific home run swings.
  • Both Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey Sr. will be on the legends roster for MLB The Show 17.
What else did you spy in the trailer?

I wouldn't worry. We still have over 2 months until the game releases.

I'm sure the information will start pouring in sooner rather than later.

There wasn't really much announced about Franchise until like March last year. No need to worry, worrying gets you nowhere anyways

All games released on ps4 will also run on the pro vice versa. Some games will have pro benefits like improved textures, 4k support etc

I mean will the show be optimized for it? Because this game really needs better framerate..

No need to be worried at all it's pretty much the same every year. None of the important info will be released until the twitch video blogs start more then likely the first week after the Super Bowl. I would look for the twitch video blog schedule announcement from Russell around the last week of January and the first twitch video blog to follow about a week or so later.

So I would say we have around 4 weeks or so until info starts flowing in.

For a die hard MLB The Show fan This is always the best time of the year because we are so close to hearing about all the new goodies but at the same time these few weeks also seem to last forever lol

Here is last years schedule for reference.

Can someone explain to me the term "deep dive" and its overusage?

I'll probably be sticking with '16 for a while unless things like presentation and franchise mode are heavily updated. I think franchise mode has been virtually untouched since MLB 12 or 13.

They used it when they were gonna do an hour or so long twitch stream and not just a 5 minute video about the topic. A more in depth look into the mode or feature

Ramone gave this post a thumbs up, so I'd say you're on to something

Give the online franchise community some love! Mode could be so great with some more additions.

I agree. Show-wise, Decembe to March is the hardest time of the year for me. While I will still be enjoying the current Show, looking forward to release day and the slow trickle of news is almost too much to bear.

Essentially, this is me:

Hopefully they really include Historical Stat, Boxscore, League Standings, performances, Season Summaries, are included as part of the Franchise mode so players have sort of Almanac/Historical Section in the mode to really look back on their league's history

This is something that the Baseball game really needs to allow us to really appreciate our FRANCHISE MODE

Yes please! If Ramone announces that absolutely nothing was touched in Online Franchise again I'm gonna go nuts. Lol.

As many have already said, it's still way to early to worry about that. I'm sure that some some goodies for all modes. [emoji1]

Not to early at all. It has literally gone untouched since it debuted in 14 and there are huge glaring problems. So im not confident there are goodies for all modes. But ill be hopeful.

Finally something about physics. It's been a few years since I have bothered with buying since the rental has left me feeling blah about the game.

So I will rent again first and if the physics are actually improved I might buy.

Haven't really been paying much attention to the hyping of the game this winter, but I would be pretty happy with improved ball physics (spin/hook/slice) and some more detailed cloth "physics" texturing on the uniforms. Maybe a tweak to the CPU AI as well.

I do want new player models for MLB '18 and expansion mode in MLB '19 though. The idea of an NBA2K style branding/expansion mode in a baseball game makes me weak in the knees. Hopefully some of these things are in development.

Personally, I'd put branding/relocation at the top of my list. I don't think it will happen this year though. But man I'd love to bring an MLB franchise to Tennessee.
