NBA 2K14 News Post

NBA 2K14 on next-gen consoles.

As much good as we have heard today from the folks at 2K Sports, and there has been a lot of that, we just got word that there will not be any offline multi-team control options in MyGM which is replacing Association mode. There was some hinting it could come back in future editions, but for this year's title don't expect to be able to play with more than one team in offline MyGM mode.

Also Aaron is reporting that there are some features which are in current gen NBA 2K14 which won't be making it over, but no word on what those are from the folks at 2K.

UPDATE: Erick Boenish, AKA SimBaller had this to say...

For those curious about MyGM mode, know this. I only covered about 5% of what this mode is at the press event. This was a bigger media event, one where a large number of the attendees aren't exactly highly interested in the meat and potatoes of a mode like this. I simply provided an overview of what our philosophy was.

We'll be going into MUCH more detail (you know I will take care of you guys here) on what we've done in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

The takeaway you should have right now is MyGM is Association on steroids. Multi-user had to take a backseat for a minute while we rebuilt the entire foundation of how a franchise mode works. I assure you, this is all for the greater good. Leftos and I will make sure you're all happy at the end of the day.

SimBaller

P.S. For those who aren't into the concept of interacting with staff, players, etc., a Season mode (with variable season lengths) IS available so you can just focus on playing games and moving players around where you see fit.

What do you think of no multi-team control offline in 2K14 next-gen?

Every trade isnt some perfect masterpiece in real life so why should it be in the game? The 49ers let go of Alex Smith after he took the team to a Championship game for a 3rd string QB from Cal?....Would that have made sense in Madden if you saw it? Would that be horrible logic?...These things do happen
There is a huge difference between the occassional bad signing, and every team in the game making bad signings. By year 2 or 3 players like Lebron or Wade can be signed for league minimum because every team in the league is over the salary cap. That is game breaking.

I could live with this, back when I was still living with my parents this was a must. Now I do this online with those same folks I did this offline with.

i really donīt care about controlling 30 teams but i feel like some of my best friendships were built off of days and days of multi-team franchieses in nba 2k11 and 2k12... this is a shame

# 85 vrock627 @ 10/23/13 11:47 PM
this is bull****. all i do is play association mode with me and 2 of my friends and we pour hours and hours into the game. now i cant do that anymore? first madden, now 2k. **** that. if they just put in that one little feature, i would buy it and put 100's of hours into it. now the game is no-buy for me.

It makes plenty of sense if you pay attn to the sport. Trent hasn't played well at all, new regime wants to move in a new direction. They got a pick for a player they don't feel and hasn't shown any level of dominance for where he was drafted.

Love is 24 and considered possibly the best PF statistically, in no way shape or form would they trade him for Iguodola. Not to mention if you think of the rosters the trade still makes 0 sense. The CPU is wired to make simple decisions.

The point is, is that if you saw this trade in Madden and it never happened in real life people would scream of failed logic. Everything isnt failed logic. You never know what teams in real life are going to do and the game has to express that.

People that KNOW how terrible the CPU logic is in association mode, why on earth are you arguing with TheRealHST? He doesn't understand the issues that we are bringing up, so just let him be. He is just trying to ruffle feathers man. Ignore him.

# 88 RocketTMac1 @ 10/24/13 12:54 AM
Major bummer not being able to control every team in Association. Why go the Madden route?

# 89 CD90 @ 10/24/13 02:27 AM
Obiously in MyGm the CPU teams have to makes trades, so there likely won't be an option to turn it off.
So i ask myself is there still a season mode?
Espacially for classix roster this would be important.
You normally don't want the CPU Teams to make trades in those season.

No Multi-Team Control isn't really good.
But when they improve the rotations and Trading Logic this might not be a big need like on the current gen versions.

The answer is: EVERY company wants to FORCE us to play online against human AI (cheesing)!

"aholbert32: It looks like that didn’t make it to next gen either. No separate season mode in next gen."

"aholbert32: Mygm is the only way to play a whole nba season in next gen."

Oh, i must have overlooked that.
Thanks for the (disappointing) answer.

Noone is dismissing your logic issues but give them a chance and stop worrying. Play the game first ...at least. Stop assuming all the issues will automatically be inherited
No one is burying the game at all. Many of us however are cautious about assuming the logic issues being fixed, because those issues have been there since 2k9. And haven't been fixed in any of the five years since (2k10, 2k11, 2k12, 2k13, 2k14 CG).

How is the option to control all teams not a feature? That doesn't even make sense.
For those who play Single Player it may not be important. For those, like myself, who play Multi Player Seasons Offline or for those who wish to have Full Control over Team Rosters it's a very big deal.
NBA 2K has been my favourite game for years because not only has it been the best sports simulation on the market but also because it's allowed me to play the game the way I like to play it. This year 2K have changed this. For myself & many others that decision is a very fundamental one.

Basketball is really the only sports game you can play offline head to head. Football, you have people spying plays, Hockey forces one team to have screwed up controls. Baseball for obvious pitching reasons. Basketball actually flows well offline.

Basketball is my favorite sport and NBA 2K has been my favorite sports game since it was released but soccer is pretty damn fun offline with friends. It might actually be more fun than playing 2K.

I wouldn't bet on that. I thought that it would not come back in Madden either, but it did this year. I am still buying, but it is beyond frustrating that I will not be able to enjoy the game fully, because of this omission. This is the very reason I don't buy NHL or Fifa, I just cannot enjoy a franchise type mode if I cannot at least play any game I want. Even just a season mode would have worked great for me.

To be fair, these are consumers and this year it's going to cost a significant amount of money to upgrade to 2K14 on the next generation console, so I think it's quite normal for folks to be weighing the positives and negatives here. For those whom 30-team Associations were their primary means of playing and enjoying NBA 2K, I do not think it's an overreaction to be bummed and question whether to make a purchase that's likely to eclipse $600 altogether.

I disagree with your forecast. I believe 2K will reintroduce some form of Multi User Season Mode in the future. Thanks to forums like this developers have the chance to see the impact of their decisions within the community. We've seen EA (famous for removing popular features) reinstate full user control within their Madden game whilst also adding a Single Season Multiplayer mode in their NHL game.
I agree with you, Next Gen NBA 2K14 is going to be one hell of a basketball game but with myself having no interest in Single Player MyGM it will still feel like it's been stripped back from current gen. That's not something usually associated with the series or 2K in general.

# 100 mcseven @ 10/24/13 09:27 AM
So are they removing the season mode too? All I do is play season modes one with the current teams and another with classic teams mixed in. I like the option to make all the trades in real life as they happen. I preordered PS4 for this game pretty much.
