Madden NFL 16 News Post

Last night, during Game Changers Radio, Kolbe Launchbaugh, Creative Director of Madden NFL 16, advised everyone to wait until the upcoming patch (no estimated date yet, but we have seen "less than six weeks" thrown around by the development team) arrives before starting their CFM.

He talks about it at roughly the 13 minute mark.
  • They are aware of everything the community is bringing to their attention
  • They are addressing many of those items in a patch coming soon (no estimated date given)
  • You should wait until the patch is released before starting your CFM, as some of the fixes will require client side and server side fixes
No details have been given on what fixes are being implemented as of yet, but for now, it would be wise not to start your Madden NFL 16 CFM yet.

As for what could be in the patch. This is all speculation but here are some of the known CFM issues:
  • Ratings boost from drive goals making some players go over 100 overall. There is no workaround right now, drive goals are always on even if you don't keep notifications going on your screen.
  • Regression being overly harsh on offensive linemen (seems to be more pass blocking than anything else) that causes their ratings to fall quite drastically. This appears to stem more from SuperSim or simulating games as linemen give up too many sacks and then regress.
  • Rookies coming in that are not scaled to the new speed/deep accuracy ratings Madden is using on default rosters. So many new rookies can come in after season one and be better than most everyone else in the game at certain things. (This one seems like it would obviously be a reason you have to start your franchise over because rookies are put in your Year 1 CFM from the start of the season.)
Other issues we are tracking but haven't confirmed on staff ourselves:
  • QBs getting too many carries during a game (in SuperSim but not regular sims).
  • Re-signing players to really crazy bargains (that is, superstars taking major discounts).

I'm not OK with it and I'm apologizing for it. I will just keep working my mock franchise just to get the hang of the new things, which for me is practically everything as I skipped 15. So I need to learn about all the game prep ****, as well as the new stuff added this year including the scouting and watchlist.

Where? You clearly couldn't provide examples previously. I have yet to see anyone say this is ok.

I for one said the draft issue doesn't affect me personally, as I don't play multiple year CFM's but play multiple single season CFM's with different teams. But I also said it's a major downer for those who play multi season CFM's.

If posts like those are people saying this is acceptable to you, I don't know what to tell you other than quite simply you're wrong.

May I ask, have you ever been involved with software testing? Then add in a hard release date and keep in mind that you need 60-90 days (estimate) of time before release to have a version that would be considered GA? Some of these bugs probably were discovered during testing but they aren't going to delay a game for bugs that don't prevent the game from being played. I think it's really that simple.

To me most of these bugs are not even football related bugs, it's all this RPG nonsenses I like to control all 32 teams and play every single game on offence and control all the stats, (even though CFM make this extremely hard to do the last 4 years) I think it was madden 12 or 13 I slipped when we had n 32 team control

I couldn't care less about XP it's a football game, it's a sport game not world of Warcraft!

the only concern I have is the IR bug as that's is a football real life thing, and that isn't 100% confirmed it seems.

CFM
- Ratings boost from drive goals with some players having ratings of 100+
- Regression not working properly (mainly from o-lineman)
- Rookies not adjusted to current roster (mainly inflated speed and deep accuracy)
- Re-signing contracts being off... someone on Twitter claimed that Dez Bryant signed a 5 year deal for 2 mil/year.
- Placing a player on IR no longer opens up a roster spot
- QB's getting 15+ carries a game while simming

Other
- Custom playbooks not working online
There are a lot more bugs than this (see the Bugs & Glitches thread). I seriously hope there are a lot more fixes than this. I'll be extremely disappointed if this is all they patch.

While im glad they are fixing these problems the one question that comes to mind is how in the world did they let problems like this slip through? Most if not all of these problems are picked up on just by playing the game. Shouldve eventually been able to spot them through testing/playing before release. Like did nobody do any Q/A?

That's not entirely true.. Both the rookie draft class issue as well as the issue with drive goals were found the first day of early access.. Look at the threads, both were created on the 20th.. The Left tackle regression was found only a few days after..

The fact is, the Q&A team didn't do their job.

TBH some of them you wouldn't notice without looking for them. I, personally, wouldn't have known about the drive goals bug if I hadn't seen it on here. And possibly the same with the OL regression bug. I don't look at my depth chart during games because I do it in between games based on performance, injuries, etc.

You can try and put it on me, but the fact of the matter is in this case you're wrong. No one has said it's ok or acceptable. Not one person. If you want to try to turn other statements in to that, or make it seem if I can't comprehend the posts in this thread, ok, but it doesn't make you less wrong in this case.

So you haven't been involved with any software testing. It's easy to judge these people when you haven't walked in their shoes. I agree the game should always work as intended. I deal with this all the time at work but our product is never perfect and I deal with customer complaints quite often. Because of this, I can empathize with the ea development team and the struggles they deal with. Do you really think that any programmer that worked on this game wants to release a game that's not working the way they intended? They have hard deadlines for their code, often times it's as is. Then QA tests what they can, kicks back any serious flaws and then gives their stamp of approval. It is what it is, EA isn't the first to go through bugs at launch.

I think these are the ones that've been classified as major enough to have their own threads. Clearly there are more to fix.

Nope, the mob wants thier pound of flesh and this is the opportunity they need.

When EA circles ranks in Madden 17 it will be the same people crying for transparency from the Developers.....

When you do that, management will start noticing. Complaining here won't accomplish that because most madden players don't even visit these forums.

It's all about PR.

This is a great community and it's good to support OS and keep the community alive but if you want change you gotta make your voices be heard loud and clear. This part of product right now is not acceptable.

Let me be clear, I don't support a protest or anything but If everything that's being said here would be said over at Madden's Facebook or Youtube more people will eventually acknowledge these issues and the product might be better in the coming years.

The ironic part about what you're saying is that the guy who makes the game Rex Dickson visits OS forums on a regular basis. OS & the Sim community has had a HUGE impact on the direction of Madden. Rex has said this himself. So to say we're just a small corner with no exposure is a bit misleading. Just sayin....

All I want is a football game that I can play without having to spend numerous hours finding workarounds for all of the issues. The issues in CFM are not able to be worked around. It is perfectly ok for me to express that, whether the community likes it or not.
Your opinion is valid and right. We have the right for the game we pay for, however we as consumers need to try and understand the complexities of software development and QA. It's never as cut and dry as we would like. The game is not perfect, CFM is buggy, but it's not unplayable. Just undesirable. I hope you continue to express your concerns, it's the only way things improve.

Those are the fixes that I've seen Kolbe or Rex say that they were looking into for the first patch either on here or on Twitter (all within the past 24 hours or so). I'm sure other things will be fixed as well.

18 pages ago I said we should be thankful that the devs roam this site and actually interact with us. We all as a group should really watch what we say, and whom we say it too. No, not because of the ban-hammer, but because they are taking the time out of their days to reach out to us and let us know WE MATTER.

They don't have to answer to us, they dont have to tell us ANYTHING of what they plan to do, but they do because this time around I firmly believe they care. I know everyone wants to voice their frustration and often times anger, but all it takes is one higher up within their company to out and say not to address this site anymore. I for one don't want that. Lets just approach this in a professional manner.

I came to the realization I expect too much from football games to accept this "representation" of football from EA Sports. I use that term, representation, VERY LOOSELY. Between watching actual games on Saturday and Sunday and just life in general, I don't have time to do "workarounds" etc just to enjoy a game. I feel I shouldn't have to work 40+ hours a week only to come home and be an unpaid intern to rectify/fix EA sports games as well.

Maybe thats my problem, I expect too much.

I trained for this so I'll be fine until they fix it.
