MLB 14 The Show News Post

Operation Sports reader tedus captured a few videos from his MLB 14 The Show hands-on in Taiwan. He also grabbed a couple of screenshots showing off the new front end, which confirms online franchise.

Below are a few of his impressions, after playing for 10 minutes. More info is sure to come soon, but until then, enjoy.
  • The field/batting camera changed!
  • Presentation almost the same!
  • Control felt good!
  • Base running animation felt some different!
  • Fielding felt more responsive

I was speaking about the people who are unable to, for whatever reason, currently own the new console. The game definitely matters to them on PS3, if you have the new console I wouldn't expect you to care about the PS3 version.. just a reminder to Statik that not everyone who plays The Show owns a PS4 yet.

Can we not edit our messages on here? And fellow MLB'ers I meant no disrespect to those of you who aren't fortunate enough to own a PS4 at this time.

I'm just so excited to see what the PS4 version of MLB 14 The Show can do.

I gotta remember like people killing people and not guns according to some that my words can come off pretentious I apologize.

Gran Turismo 6 says hi

Spoiler

Point is, the next-gen thirst is real and the PS3 (and Vita) is quickly becoming irrelevant in the US (PS4 sold twice as much in December and that's with supply constraints, Vita was sub 100K). Heck, even Ghosts has sold more on PS4. No offense to the guys sticking with the PS3 version, but the quicker it becomes "just a roster update" the better. And before you ask, yes, I plan on keeping my PS3 and I am a proud Vita owner

You know it's almost time for "The Show" to be released when people start whining and complaining about retractable roofs, incorrect helmets, uniforms, and batting stances. Yup, it's that time of the year again.

No offense to my fellow PS3 brothers but I don't want anything interfering with the PS4 version at all which will be the definitive copy to own.

We all have seen what happens when a developer releases more then one copy of the same game on next gen and last gen tech it's a disaster in need of patch after patch because the team was split instead of focused on one version.

This...is....hilarious and a microcosm of the elitist attitude that crops up around here.

Let us not forget that some of the dirt at various stadiums does not match the real life dirt to a T. Oh, and Toronto has the wrong color blue.

"Cano has the wrong batting stance! This game is an absolute travesty!!! I spend 60 bucks every year, the devs should bow down to me and only me and give me everything I want."

I honestly don't know if I should laugh or feel sorry for people who are just so miserable.... Perhaps both.

Any who, to the topic at hand. While the videos don't show us a lot, I'm very intrigued by them. The new fielding cam looks cool and a couple of new animations look nice, particularly one of the infielder ones.

That new angle when the ball is hit. That is sexy. I can't wait to see more video's. I need to get a ps4 and pre order this ASAP!

All I can hope for is that the ps4 version arrives by the start of the season. The only "next gen" game I own is FIFA 14 and you can only play one damn game for so long.

Without this:

You don't get this:

Building a strong foundation and foot print in its first year will help spring board the series in maximizing what the ps4 can do. I am not expecting a watered down ps4 version. While they may have the same feature set I think they are going to feel and play very different. It may not have what everyone wants but I feel it is going to be very solid.

This could be exciting.
My initial questions / concerns would be ....

1)Can we import rosters(O.S.F.M)?
2)Will the progression system be good?
3)Will there be an open schedule like in past?
4)Will we be able to set the amount of games per season? if its 162 games its basically a waste of time. our online seasons (40 games seemed to be perfect amount to keep guys interest(activity).
5)Free agency(will it be a solid system? took madden years to get it right)
6)Drafts? i dont feel needed for online franchise if you allow us to import O.S.F.M.

Not being negative. Whenever a game has a new mode that will so greatly impact many of our experiences online, obviously we should all be nervous. The good thing about the "old" online league mode was we had ability to customize the league to make it work. If possible consider adding the online league mode that has worked for us for years if there is going to be alot of issues till you perfect online franchise. But my hope is you have already got all the bases covered.

thanks

To alienate the PS3 fanbase at all...yet alone in the very first year of the new console life would be abhorrent.
It is naturally going to become the red-headed stepchild...but for SCEA to ignore it from the onset of the PS4 is not only not how they operate, but would make bad business sense.
There are still a lot of people playing on the PS3.
(I'm NOT one of them once '14 drops...but that's irrelevant)

People will always have that preconceived notion due to that fact that they've all been burned by other companies which is understandable, but as you said that's never been SCEA's way of doing business.

It is perfectly okay for people to make suggestions to what should be added/changed in game. Not everyone on the Dev team is going to be a hardcore baseball fanatic and may overlook small details about Coors Field that would drive a Rockies fan insane. It's only logical.

That said people need to look at it in a realistic light. You cannot expect a dev team to add every small detail. Often times other facets of development take first priority. In this year's case, the PS4 version of the game is likely going to take first priority with playability of the game taking precedent over some of the finer details. You want a game that plays well before you want a game that looks flawless.

So yes both sides are right. You are allowed to ask for additions to the game. That's how any successful business model operates: focusing on customer needs and wants. In the case of entertainment, that takes an even more pronounced role. But at the same time be realistic about it. All you can do is ask, don't whine or complain or downplay the quality of the product because such additions were not made (not accusing anyone of doing so). Simply keep it real and realize that many, many, many hours of hard work were put into building the game (from the ground up in the PS4 case). Don't forget development isn't flawless and they run into many hiccups and game breaking bugs that must be fixed before release too. Time is of the essence. They do what they have time to do. That's it. Rant over.
But it's not our responsibility to figure out what can be realistically added in and when. Who cares? The company and their R&D team can figure that out.

If you want the next game to come with a hovercraft, that's your right to express as such, period. As long as it's done so respectfully (there's a difference between saying you want something and antagonizing the devs for not already putting it in), then what's the problem?

You cannot expect devs to split time and water down the ps4 version because some are not going to jump to next gen right away. people who paid 399 for a ps4 deserve a game that is not held back by outdated tech.
People who can't afford to shell out $399 at the drop of a hat deserve a good game too, dont you think? Some of us do live paycheck to paycheck you know.

I am gladly sacrificing a week's worth of food/groceries for a PS4, after the game comes out. It's okay, humans can survive off water and The Show.

Not sure if there is enough time but the signs at Minute Maid left field are being moved before the 2014 season.

Where exactly did you pull that one out of?!
