MLB 14 The Show News Post

Operation Sports reader tedus captured a few videos from his MLB 14 The Show hands-on in Taiwan. He also grabbed a couple of screenshots showing off the new front end, which confirms online franchise.

Below are a few of his impressions, after playing for 10 minutes. More info is sure to come soon, but until then, enjoy.
  • The field/batting camera changed!
  • Presentation almost the same!
  • Control felt good!
  • Base running animation felt some different!
  • Fielding felt more responsive

I'm sorry, but that was definitely the vibe I got from some posts in this thread.
That once the PS4 was released......the PS3 automatically became a dead system and the PS3 version should receive little if any attention.

Now, while I won't be playing the PS3 version....I would like to express that...at least for a few years for most people to be able to get a PS4....I would hope the PS3 version gets at least some updating other than the roster and any significant changes. It's true...that it is indeed at the end of it's cycle and has been stretched to the limit as far as additions...but tweaks and fixes should at the very least be included IMO(and feature if possible).

I'm an "everybody goes" guy. I don't like to leave anyone behind.
"Never leave anyone on the fire floor"(even if it means going to the Burn Center ....does anyone know the gaming equivalent?!)

PS2 lasted 7 more years after PS3 was released.
I would expect at least half of that from PS3.

well the last two years we have been told how the PS3 version was maxed out, so I would assume they fine tune gameplay and any new features (online franchise) would be saved for the PS4

Ps3 version will continue until it does not make money anymore. It will be limited in what it offers as time goes on but I see it continuing until it turns red.

Absolutely.

Like I said...." through "natural" progression...the PS4 version will pull away greatly from it's PS3 brother.

I think the phrase "the PS3 is maxed out" gets misunderstood.

Its maxed out to the point that they cant do anything more to it graphically.
Like add more defined hair and more crowd models and more uniform slots and retractable roofs or stadiums with crystal clear definition.

They can however add more features which is evident in what theyve been able to do for the last few years, including this year with Online Franchise and Quick Counts.

PS3 is not dead yet my friends. Dying? YES! Dead? NO!

Actually they are to the point where they have to think about what they can put in feature wise. Basically something has to go/replaced in order for something to be added in many cases.

What has been removed in the last 3 years that has afforded them the ability to add the new features they have added?

MLB12 they added DD. What was removed?

Last year they added 7 new MiLB stadiums, Extended DD and added TSL.
What was removed to make room for all that?

This year they added Carry over saves, OF and QC, what has been removed?

I am not talking about the past 3 years, talking now and into the future. As far as online franchise, the show already has a franchise mode so they are not doubling up. Plus, I am sure a lot of that is going to be on their servers.

We can save this conversation for later in the season.

OK, but I am. That was the conversation Nem. As Hustlin said , "The last 2 years".
The conversation for the last few years has been that the PS3 is maxed out.
And my contention is that it is maxed out on graphics, not necessarily in adding more features.

They have consistently added new features every year without deleting any.
If it were maxed out like that, this game would have been dead after MLB11.

You cannot expect devs to split time and water down the ps4 version because some are not going to jump to next gen right away. people who paid 399 for a ps4 deserve a game that is not held back by outdated tech.
Sorry, but you're wrong. And I wouldn't expect a watered down PS4 version either.

Fact remains, there are still more PS3s in homes than PS4s... I happen to have all three, and will own all 3 versions, but I know that is not the case for everyone. So I don't expect them to have deal with a stagnant game because WE made the jump already.

So yeah... LOL.

I've already mention this to them. Not to say it will make it in... This is what it looked like (the actual ballpark) as of this past weekend:

Well there are a lot of issues that have been cited as being directly related to hardware limitations on PS3 that are not at all related to the graphics engine. I don't remember all of them, but one that I feel like was stated as being hampered by the PS3 was the notion of saving detailed historical stats year over year in franchise or other modes.

But for the most part you're correct, the PS3 isn't hampering features to be added. It might be a factor in determining what features can be added to The Show though since they know it would need to work on PS3 and PS4. Until they cut the leash on PS3 their decision making for future features might be limited to "What can the PS3 do? The PS4 can obviously do whatever that can."

My little conspiracy theory is that SCEA is holding up on any announcements until Sony patches the ps4 to play mp3's.

14's feature set includes SOTS so if SCEA released information before the console is patched to allow it it would kinda let the cat out of the bag.

Sony has to make the first move here.

It's possible (though unlikely) that the release date could be pushed back to account for this, but I highly doubt that they're holding back all information simply because of this one feature.

All they would have to do would be to not mention Sounds of the Show until the patch was released/announced.

There's no room for rational thoughts in my theories.

The other part of my theory is this schedule that Russell has referred to is all or nothing.

I'm just writing my own story over here.
